lovely wardens and convenient site

We are quite regular visitors to Durham due to family living in Durham. Two visits in the last few weeks. The main reasons to like this site are the friendly and helpful wardens, and the well maintained site and its facilities. Our grandson rates the playground highly. The site is convenient as a stopover being just off the A1, and also very convenient for a visit to Durham City. There are two downsides for me. One is the traffic noise from the main roads. The other is the lack of cycling from the site - to get anywhere it is necessary to travel on busy dual carriageway and then negotiate busy roundabout over A1. Even then more distance must be covered before getting off dual carriageway. It is all too dangerous for me. Running (or walking) from the site is better due to path close to site entrance which goes down to River Wear from where it is possible to follow the river path upstream into the middle of Durham.

Beamish Visit

Great site to visit, easily accessible from the A1 and considering that not really any road noise as such, friendly wardens very helpful,  hardstanding pitches a great size cannot comment on the grass ones, site very busy but after speaking to the warden she believed this is due to Stockton being closed at the moment,  used the site as a base to visit Beamish museum and Durham ideal for both, park and ride close by but did not use on this occasion, will definitely return as there is still plenty to see in this area.

Perfect

This site was perfect for what we wanted, my husband and our friend had a gig in Newcastle on the Saturday and Sunday so it wasn't  far to go. we arrived 12-00 Friday and were welcomed very warmly by the friendly wardens. the site was lovely and clean and the shower blocks warm  and cosy . we wern't around a lot but what we did see was ideal, we will be returning as this site is perfect for us.

Great Stopover

Stayed a couple of days last week on our way to Scotland.  Site is so close to the A1 and so easy to stop overnight.  But really is worth a longer stay to take everything in.  We have been before many years ago and the site has been upgraded and is splendid now with lots of hardstandings as well as grass and for those who need the super pitches.  The wardens are great and very friendly especially when you've booked the wrong type of pitch!  Wifi is Silver but we found it really good, a bit slower than the home fibre but with all the vans there it worked well for us.  We spent a day at the Beamish Open Air Museum and luckily had good weather and would highly recommend it for all.  Might not be quite so good in school holidays but we had fun jumping on and off the various types of trams.  Can highly recommend the Tea Room which is upstairs in the Village, we had lunch and went back for tea and cakes as it was so good.  On a previous visit we had used the Park & Ride, which is within walking distance from the site, to catch the bus into Durham.

Surprisingly rural site next to A1M

This site is a gem for caravaners using the busy A1M.  It is pleasantly shaded by mature trees with well kept lawns and shrubs.  The facilities are well kept and scrupulously clean.  The staff are friendly and very helpful - I had an electrical problem and was offered assistance to trace the problem.  When we couldn't fix it I was able to borrow a set of commercial jump leads to provide a short term solution.  There are pleasant walks and the bus into Durham stops nearby. I shall definitely stay here again on my trips to the North and back.

Lovely site.

We like this site,  it's not to far away from our home,  so is handy as I work most Saturdays. It's quite but very friendly,  so a great place to just chill out. Plenty going on around if you want to get out and about. But you do need a car as it's just that bit too far away from Durham to walk. We have done it but it's a long walk. ??

Visiting again!

Stayed here many times since joining the caravan club.  Ideal for seeing Durham and it's cathedral .. well worth the visit.  Wardens very friendly and helpful. Clean and tidy site. One toilet block so we like to pitch within approx. 50 metres.  Downside is the road noise if you pitch on the right hand side (having Reception behind you).  Dog walk can get very muddy after bad weather so use the grass area as you approached the entrance from the main road ... ample waking area. Happy caravanning everyone!

Excellent short break!

Thoroughly enjoyed our first stay at Durham Grange. Very clean facilities, wardens extremely friendly and very helpful when we had a problem booking our next caravan club site. The park and ride nearby is a bonus, just a shame it does not have a drop off at the lane end!

Love this site?

This is our most visited site as we visit family and go to the football game in our home town. The site is immaculate and the wardens really friendly. The bus service into Durham and Sunderland is very regular and efficient. You won't be disappointed if you visit Durham Grange. Durham city is so tranquil and historic. In the words of Bill Bryson, " if you have never been to Durham, go there at once. It's wonderful."
