We stayed here for a weekend and loved it. It's great location for Newcastle and Northumberland the site has lovely big pitches clean toilet block and a remote key fob for the barrier.
The site is kept very tidy and extremely clean. Although the shop sells some essentials perhaps some provisions in a freezer would be helpful. My husband was taken ill on our last night and the assistant wardens were very helpful, when we couldn't get a taxi they took us to Durham hospital.Would recommend for visiting Beamish and the park and ride to Durham being close by is a bonus.
Near the A1 so road noise is ever present during the day. Handy for the park and ride into Durham £2 per person. Usual CC facilities and standards. Like the key fob for the barrier rather than swipe cards.
My wife and I stayed here over our birthdays in March 2016. We had visited many years ago and we were both delighted to see how much improved and well maintained the site is.
There are other comments regarding road noise from the A1 but as we live close to a main road, that didn't bother us at all.
The wardens and assistants are all very professional but friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We look forward to coming back.
Great site to stop off on A1 as it is just off the Motorway. Also an ideal site for exploring Durham and the surrounding area. We walked to the nearby Park and Ride where the regular service gets you to the City Centre in 10 minutes. There is some background road noise but this is to be expected given the ease of access to the A1. The Wardens were very helpful and the site facilities were well maintained.
Easy access from the A1M hence some traffic noise but not too intrusive. But you can hear it. You are warned of this in the club book.
The site is very clean and well maintained.
The wardens are friendly and helpful.
We will definitely visit this site again.
A very clean and well kept site with friendly staff.Very easy to access, although there is some noise from the nearby A1 but it is hardly noticeable. would recommend spending a few nights, handy for Beamish open air museum,Durham as well as The Metro Centre. Toilet block is kept immaculate a credit to the staff for keeping it the way it is.
We decided to drive to Seaham to see the tiny marina 22nd February 2016. Free parking, a huge metal statue called "Tommy" was seated near the seafront. An incredible piece of artwork and very thought provoking. His drawn features demonstrating utter fatigue. Beautifully executed. Read the words on the back of the plinth.
Can recommend the "Lookout" cafe, near the marina, lovely views, great sunshine and a superb cuppa. Well worth the journey. A friendly local said they don't get many tourists. What a shame.
Very easy access from A1M. Facilities are as expected but showers are not super powerful. The rear pitches are slightly more picturesque, the front pitches have a somewhat industrial outlook. Road noise is constant but not unbearable. The park and ride into Durham City is close by but a little tortuous to get there on foot due to busy main roads without pedestrian crossings. Durham is lovely and has a magnificent cathedral. Other parts of the North East are easily reached by car.
