We pitched along by the road, which was fairly noisy during the day but not a problem at night. The pitch we were on was very flat which really wasn't the case on two other pitches that we tried first, having older dogs once we had levelled up using the chocks the step into the mh was far too high for me let alone our two oldies. Fantastic location suited us perfectly for access to the beach via a gentle slope onto the beach or you could use the steps. Beach is immaculate, had a fantastic view out of our window towards the beach (car park end) We didn't use any of the facilities preferring to use our own so can't comment on them. Will be visiting again asap.
Fabulous area , COVID 19 arrangements spoiled stay
Stunning site ,great pitches , friendly staff but unfortunately COVID 19 toilet/ shower arrangements spoilt stay.
Only 2 facilities and one family able to use at any one time which meant there was a queue at most times. Therefore ended up having a shower around midnight. Also in the mornings which was queued I actually walked out of the site and used the rank public toilets adjacent for the beach users.
Cannot see why there could not be 2 toilets open in each of the male and female blocks.
Having said all that if you have onboard facilities it would be an excellent stay
Brilliant Coronavirus check in at a favourite site
Coronavirus points
The check in process at the site is brilliant with no contact or requirement to go inside. Brilliantly done.
There were cues for the toilets and showers but they are understandably restricted. I never witnessed any non members using the toilets, they used the car park toilets as many members were doing, non members would not have bands for a start.
What really baffled me is why so many people are reluctant to use their own facilities, in two weeks our family showered every day in the van and used the van toilet without exception.
There is a global pandemic do what you can to look after your own health.
Site related points
The site is in tip top condition and the location is just superb for anyone who wants to have a relaxing beach holiday. My family had a lovely break here for probably the fifth or sixth year in a row. We love it.
It can be a busy site for wardens as they have a tremendous amount of turnover which has increased in recent years due to NC500 success which also brings less experienced campers but the wardens keep things working really well.
There are loads of lovely places to visit and brilliant drives to be had. Orkney is not far away but would definitely recommend using the CL network and spending a week their, there is so much to do.
See you next year :-)

Really disappointing stay
Recent stay at dunnet head was really disappointing. Great site, with nearby access to the beach. But due to covid 19 the site access to the beach was closed off, apparently to deter unwanted guests from the beach! However these unwanted guests still came onto site from the public carpark outside to use toilet and perhaps shower facilities after surfing and visiting the beach! These facilities were already not running to full capacity due to the covid pandemic and only allowed one person in at a time, meaning one morning waiting 45 minutes in a line for a shower. Meanwhile inconsiderate people used the facilities for an incredible amount of time, knowing that people were waiting. To top it all, two very ‘industrious’ wardens, especially the gentleman warden who marched around being very ‘stand offish’ with his face covering dangling around his neck yelling at the people in the shower queue that they weren’t social distancing! I have visited another 4 sites within the clubs network and privately owned sites since lock down eased and I have not experienced anything like this. Unfortunately a site to avoid, Definitely until the pandemic eases, which I don’t see happening anytime soon.
Toilet and shower nightmare
We stayed here for 7 nights after staying last year and loved it. However, this year we were really disappointed. Understandably measures had to be put in for Covid19 but these were ridiculous. I'm not a fan of unisex toilets but when you have to use a toilet that is swimming in urine over the floor and toilet and not been flushed then I am not happy. The facilities are cleaned twice a day but to only have 1 toilet and 1 shower in each block open is not great. Queues most of the day to use them. It is a shame as there are obviously some people who don't care about others. People were also coming from the adjacent car park to use the facilities as the public toilets there were blocked due to someone putting facemasks down them. The campsite is in a beautiful setting and it would have helped to have more toilets/showers open and just limit to two people and keep them male and female.
Our first time in a motorhome
Our first stop for our North coast 500 couldn't have been better. Friendly service, explained to us "novices" what was needed, etc., and an absolutely lovely view from our pitch.
Quite, well enough away from it all to enjoy the nature, and THAT BEACH!!!
Clean, efficient services, hookup, etc. what more could you want?
Would highly recommend it again.
Neat and Tidy Club Site
Excellent quality club site. Nice direct access to the beach. Bus stop nearby for access to John O'Groats, Dunnet Head and Thurso. Facilities on site excellent, small shop, free wi-fi and laundry room. Shower room excellent ..

Great stopover with direct accces to a long beach
First I would like to say thank you for extending this site's opening period for the year however we had originally written off stopping off here as the CAMC still has last year's dates and stated the site closed on 24th September! If it hadn't been for the site very prominent location next to the main road then we would have remained oblivious. A stop off here alerted us to the fact that the opening period of both sites at Brora and Kinlochewe had also been extended. Unfortunately we had already passed Kinlochewe but were able to take advantage of the site at Brora. I hope the club will take this error on the app into consideration when they assess the merits of extending the season at these sites.
So yes this site backs on to a main road but you have to remember the location of this main road on the north coast of Scotland miles beyond the last location of any major supermarket etc so there are no Asda HGVs thundering past during the night as we have at home! The WiFi hotspot is not great so we didn't bother but we had a decent 4G signal with EE that we didn't really mind. Which is worth mentioning in the respect that on our tour of the north of Scotland coastline we rarely with 4G which allowed us to stay up to date with the news and some TV when TV reception was poor.
The pitches are all grass and in great condition given the time of our visit and to be honest it was a joy pitching on grass as too often we only ever consider hard standing.
A final thank you to the lovely wardens and in particular to the gentleman who brought over my phone when I left it in reception on booking in.

Investment
I would not wish to detract from the rave reviews that have gone before. Dunnet Bay site is in a fabulous location with stunning sea views. It has great wardens, really helpful, kind and efficient, so a well deserved 5 stars to them. But the site’s location on the 500 brings a number of questions for the club. Our visit was a late September weekend with inevitable weather issues which I accept may condition this review. First, during our stay we found that a substantial number of visitors stayed for one night only, departing early to continue apace on the 500, resulting in a transit site than a touring location. Be ready for late arrivals and early departures. Perhaps this is something that should be reflected in pitch allocation? Second, linking to the first issue, the site access roads are rough stoned rather than tarmac, and the pitches are exclusively grass. Whilst pleasing to the eye, it presents an issue for a high turnover of visitors, with front row pitches cordoned off. Third, the site is not screened from the A836 which runs its length, presenting traffic noise and at times a bleak aspect. Fourth, the facilities, whilst superbly maintained by the wardens, are small for a site of this size and nature. Add to this that wifi does not extend from the tiny laundry room. All of these criticisms could be cured by investment Do they outweigh the value of a visit? Certainly not.
Delightful Dunnet!
Fabulous site, fabulous views, fabulous beach! We stayed here to finish our 500 trip by driving to Durness and back from here. As we live near Inverness, we will definitely be using it as one of our 'chill out/get away' sites many times in the future
Yes, it's by a road and yes, there is traffic, but that's a fact of life and it's not the busiest of roads compared to some sites. To be honest when we stayed there were very high winds so that combined with the sound of the sea drowned out most road noise! Wardens were lovely, pitches were very good and the whole site is very well laid out.
I note some comments about 'rules' in previous reviews but those rules keep people safe and provide an element of privacy for everyone to enjoy the site and facilities.
