Excellent site with beautiful views over the beaches and Dunnet Bay. Had a good bike run to John O' Groats on a relatively quiet road. Also great walks along the beach where you could walk for miles and see so many different things. Took the bus to Thurso which was a little disappointing and a bit run down although we didn't stray much off the beaten track just through the town centre and down towards the water. This site is worth a visit and we will surely return. Again very helpful wardens.
NC500 trip
Managed to get booked in at last minute as site was fully booked. Friendly staff. Beach access within a few feet of the site with terrific views and sunsets. Ideal for trips to Dunnet Head and Castle Mey. There's a hotel that does decent meals a short walk from the site with a gin/vodka distillery next door to it. Across the road are woodland walk.
Look forward to coming again.
Great site in beautiful area
Great site in a lovely location. Access to the beach straight from the site, lovely community forest walk opposite and short drive to beautiful Dunnet Head with views to Orkney and the Old Man of Hoy when clear. Site facilities always spotless. But the big benefit of this site are the current wardens, Stewart and Chris. They went above and beyond to help when my husband was ill over our first few days òn site. They were very sympathetic and dealt with a difficult situation very professionally. Caravan and Motorhome Club take note - they are a credit to you.

Been there and Dunnet!
We visited this site for 3 nights on our 3 week tour of Scotland including the NC500. We had a lovely welcome from the relief wardens who were looking after the site during our stay. They were helpful and provided information about the area, they were always friendly, chatty and kept the site immaculate. We stayed on pitch 9 which had a spectacular sea and beach view. The site is ideally placed for cycling to Dunnet Head. Well worth the climb and Scottish shower!! We also took the Jog Ferry maxi day tour to Orkney. Fabulous day, well worth the visit which was helped by a beautiful sunny day. Dunnet Bay is a fantastic site, the beach is stunning, I am sure we will return again one day. Thank you.
Fab little site
Lovely welcome from the warden and a very clean and spacious little site.
Only spent one night here but enjoyed walking on the huge beach with the dog. Site quiet and although a road goes past the site, I wasn’t aware of traffic noise.
One to think of using if doing the NC500
Fabulous well managed site
First time to the site as part of an NC500 trip. Stayed 3 nights from Easter Monday and could not wish for more from a site. The managers are very friendly (Chris and Stewart - first year wardens here) and they obviously love their job. The site is very well managed and immaculate. The toilet block was the best we’ve been to for cleanliness. The pitches are well spaced and many have amazing views across Dunnet Bay. Our dogs loved the fact that the beach is a 1 minute walk through a gate from the caravan site. 10 out of 10 - we will return.
To please the dogs
This site has the most fantastic location. We parked our motorhome within yards of the extensive flat beach. Our two springer spaniels were able to run for miles everyday. For the entire week there was no need to put a lead on them as we parked right by the path to the beach so they ran straight from the motorhome down onto the sand without upsetting any fellow campers. Most days there were only a handful of other people on the beach other days no one else on the beach.
The sea was very cold but it did not stop the dogs going in. Only thing to note is that on a few days we had lots of very large jelly fish washed up. We plan to go back next year. This time we will buy the local gin before we arrive not as we depart! If you are looking for lots of entertainment this is not the place for you. Ideal for children who are happy with the good old fashioned idea of playing on the beach. Bring a wet suit for the water.
Jasper and Moriarti give it full maks.
NC500 Stopover
We were doing the 500 route around the Highlands of Scotland and originally decided to stay at this site for one night - we ended up staying for 3 as it is a superb site. It has a sea view with only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, and what a beach! Miles of golden sand.
The wardens were so friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. They went out of their way to be of assistance with everything. The facilities were spotless and the whole site was fabulous and I would recommend it to anyone.
We stayed at about 8 sites in our motorhome while touring the Highlands and this was definitely the best site of them all.

Fantastic stay
Stayed at this site late September/early October 2018. What an amazing place this is, the site looks out directly over Dunnet Bay and the moody ever changing sea.
It was quite windy whilst we were there but that just added to the magic of the place.
We visited the nearby Rock Rose gin distillery, wow what a success story. The tour was incredibly informative and the tastings great! Well worth a visit.
Like many others we must mention the wardens Mel and Bev, they couldn’t do enough for us, Bev even made a point of coming to say goodbye on our last day. Thank you both!
NC500 here we come!
You certainly can't miss this site......superb location with a view from every pitch although the roadside ones can be a bit noisy. Wardens extremely helpful and friendly. Beach is amazing but if you have a dog please be aware of the jellyfish as advised by the wardens on arrival.
If you want a fabulous meal just go to the Northern Sands hotel about 10 minutes up the road. Amazing quality at an amazing price. Castle of Mey is also well worth a visit, the guided tour is the only way to look round but the guide is very knowledgeable and it makes the visit quite personal.
Enjoy the experience!
