Stayed here May 2018 after a gap of 14yrs, great wardens, great weather and the site has improved in many ways. Dunnet Forest is a wonderful place to walk especially if you have a dog and its only across the road from the site. The only gripe was halfway through our stay a caravan parked not to the rule, which meant that the caravan doors were facing each other. Which meant that we lost a bit of privacy.

This is a fantastic site with great views of the bay and easy access to the site. It is a great area to visit and whilst we only had a short break we managed to take the ferry from John O Groats to Orkney on the organised trip. Whilst expensive this was very worth it and the driver (Stewart) was so knowlegable. I would also strongly recommend a visit to Dunnet Head for the amazing views.
Whilst the wardens were on holiday the relief wardens were excellent.
We will certainly make a return visit
Excellent site, friendly wardens. One of our favourite Club sites so far
We stayed at Dunnet Bay for 8 nights over the Easter holidays. The site was very well maintained by the lovely, friendly wardens. Nothing was too much trouble for them including helping us find an emergency dog groomer when our dog got too close to a dead seal on the beach!! The wardens were always friendly even when they were having to deal with malicious damage in the laundry room. The children and dogs had a fabulous time on the beach which is right behind the site. The site is grass pitch only and due to its location it can be prone to strong winds but it is the most idyllic site we’ve stayed on in all the years we have been caravanning. It is ideal for touring the north of Scotland, the Castle of Mey and the Orkneys. It was an ideal place to spend my big birthday, unwind and relax. We hope to return before to long. Thanks Mel & Bev.
A pity about the Male Warden
We stopped at this site for two nights and it was spoilt by the Male site Warden. We were given a warm welcome by the Lady booking us in but when we were walking around the site looking for a pitch as the lady suggested we encountered him. We had parked in the motorhome point to book in as we needed to use it and it left the entrance clear, there is no clear area marked for arrivals - only on the site details which you get after booking in? He asked us if we were parked there and for future reference don't do it again and to drive around the site to look for a pitch. We just carried on and decided if the Wardens cannot decide between them what to advise then we would ignore his protest and marked our pitch, filled up and forgot about it.
He later on was waving madly at an arriving caravan for not parking in the unmarked arrival space trying to get him to circulate the site and ended up exactly where he started, and the Warden stamped off waving his arms!
The following day we had returned to site and needed to fill up at the SP again and asked if we were booked in for using the SP because people were pulling in and just using the SP when not stopping on the site.
He seems to think that shutting one gate with 'Site Full' on it is a good idea too meaning every van has to stop and open it to get in.
It's a great pity that he didn't apply as much attention to the outfits that were not pitched correctly meaning the spacing was much less than is stated by the club for safety reasons.
Brilliant Site
Clean and well maintained site. The Wardens are lovely - efficient & welcoming 10 out of 10. Keep up the good work :)
WOW
We stayed here before catching a ferry to Orkney and liked it so much we stayed again when we got back!
Its a small, but fantastic site in an incredible location. Facilities were spotless and the wardens were some of the friendliest we met on out Scotland tour. Well worth a visit but would recommend booking in advance!
One of the most relaxing weeks we have had
I have got to highly recommend this site and its wardens Steve and Mark. Not a big site but so clean and well looked after. Having 2 big dogs (Alaskan malamute and German Shepherd) the short walk to the beach was brilliant, and what a beach. OK it can be windy and a constant spray from the surf, but this is the far North of Scotland, what do you expect. If its raining, wait a minute. I feel I must address a couple of complaints, The road is busy, not by any standards. Even if it is on the North 500, there are far busier. No Internet, well I suggest you have picked not the wrong site but the wrong part of the country, 4G is very limited here. One small area to park when you arrive, there is a large car park at the entrance of the site. Please visit this site, and this part of the country. Probably shooting myself in the foot there as we intend to visit again and again. Lads keep it up, Absolutely brilliant. Still emptying the sand out of everywhere.
Perfect
We enjoyed a 15 night stay at this wonderful site. The wardens, Steve and Mark were very warm and friendly and worked very hard to make sure everyone enjoyed their stay they are a credit to the caravan amd motorhome club.
The entrance is very good with only one outfit able to go through at a time, no queue jumping here. A previous reviewer mentioned the road to John O' Groats. Yes the road runs past the site but busy and noisy? I don't think so.
The facilities were of the usual high standard and we found the pitches in very good condition. The beach is a haven for children and dogs alike and was well used by all. We were very lucky with the weather during our visit and we were able to see the breathtaking scenery at its best. There is also a forest with good walks about a mile from the site. We drove along part of route 500 to Bettyhill and words just can't describe the beauty of the surrounding scenery. We visited Castle of Mey which has a gift/coffee shop we would recommend. Mary Ann's cottage is worth a visit, its interetsing to see how people used to live. The town of Wick is a few miles drive and has a supermarket situated on the outskirts. Thurso also has a supermarket and nice tea rooms and lovely walks. We visited the Mey highland games which were attended by Prince Charles who took the time to have a walk about and was very pleasant to everyone. You never know who you might bump into on a caravan holiday!
Sometimes in life things just work out perfectly and this was one such occasion. 😆
fantastic
beautiful clean site, wardens around all day and chatty. the adjoining beach was heavenly although many jellyfish. quite a windy site beautiful clean toilets and a wildlife room upstairs ( privalt run. being a club site getting to the top of the price range being peak periods
My least favourite out of the ten sites used to tour Scotland.
We have been touring Scotland in a hired motor home normally we are caravan owners. There are several things I found wrong with this site. Firstly it feels like a rally on a school field. There are no separations between the pitches like hedges/trees or fencing. Secondly, the pitch which we had a lovely aspect but was really uneven. Thirdly, the entrance has only one space to pull into when you arrive which is in front of the motor home filling station. This caused a lot of trouble when you needed to empty the waste and fill the tanks as people parked there to register and you were unable to wait as there was nowhere to go. Fourthly, it was noisy, the main road to John O Groats runs along side the site. It is a constant hum day and night.
The good things were the key operated toilet block, however I think this was only due to the close proximity to a car park which is next door to the entrance barrier and seems to have people staying overnight there. It is in a lovely position looking over the beach if you get one of those pitches and good for John O Groats plus ferries for the islands.
