Well located for a brief stay while touring the north of Scotland. Good flat roads for cycling, wind permitting. Handy for the North Highland Way which runs nearby, and direct access to the fabulous beach for short walks. Otherwise not much interest for keen walkers. The site is small but very well organised with an excellent info shed. The toilet block is very good but you only get one key. Only 3 of everything so it could be tricky during school holidays. Site access is cramped so on a busy day the nearby car park would have to be used for arrivals. Wardens are doing an excellent job.
Just got back from a lovely few days in Dunnet Bay, we enjoyed it so much we have just booked another stay there for next week!
Lovely location, the warmest of welcomes, friendliest staff and a high standard of cleanliness on site.
We came here with our first Motorhome about 12 years ago. The site was run in a very disciplined manner and the female of the two wardens managed to tell my husband off for walking our dogs on "cultivated wild flowers" which apparently had been planted in the dip between caravans and the road fence. Her manner was brusque and we felt all the welcoming warmth of a fridge. This year we came back and the difference was amazing. The site was full but we were permitted to fill our fresh water tank. While we were doing this, a cancellation came in and one of the wardens came running over and said if we still wanted to stay we could. The site hasn't changed but the warmth and friendly welcome has. If we lived nearer we would book more often than twice in 12 years. Thanks for a much needed stopover and good luck to you both.
Dunnet Bay has to be on everyone's bucket list for this is surely one of the best locations you could ever wish to visit.
The stunning sandy beach is bitterly just a stones throw from the site. Through a gate, down a few easy wooden steps and you are there.
Ideal for families with young children who will love the shoreline, and also ideal for anyone with dogs, with miles of walks on the beach, amongst the dunes or just across the road in the forrest.
A peaceful place to relax, and unwind.
The site itself has well drained, well kept grass pitches and the facilities although on the small side are well maintained and clean.
This is our second visit and will definitely not be our last.
What a fantastic site, the two guys running it run it faultlessly, even thing was clean, well looked after and the customer service was above any thing any one could expect.
Brilliant location, public transport available even if a little patchy.
The site is in a spectacular location, the beach is excellent & so close. Watch out for the wind though, it can be mighty strong so seek the shelter if the dunes. The spotless heated shower block produced the best showers on a site, plenty of hot water supplied in a warm building. The wardens are cheerful, welcoming & helpful. Don't miss it.
A great site for sea views and stargazing. The kids will love the beach and there is plenty of room to run around. It is handy for the ferry to Orkney and Shetland and the John o Groats boat trip is well worth doing. The site has very clean well kept toilets and showers etc in all an excellent site.
We stayed in April 2017. This is a truly beautiful spot. Right next to a stunning and, in April at any rate. almost deserted beach. The managers were helpful and friendly. The facilities were spotlessly clean. Very convenient for the Orkney ferry, which we took next day.
We definitely plan to return here.
We arrived with our dog and were immediately struck by the beach, the tide was out and the sand covers a huge area. The sand is like powder and very light in colour. When the tide is in the beach is of course much smaller but still very impressive and a couple of miles long with big sand dunes. The facilities could not be faulted and the pitches all looked level. Very close to Thurso and on the main road to John O Groats.
This is a nice little Caravan Club site situated alongside a superb beach ! The site toilet and shower facilities are up to the usual good club site standards and the wardens are very friendly. The site has all grass pitches and not many are level however although we had a lot of rain the grass was nice and firm ! The only gripe would be that the main Thurso to John O Groats road runs alongside the site and was quite noisy.
