Great place to relax!
First time to this site, but won't be the last! Like many other like minded people, needed a break from the dreary news and lockdowns. This certainly made us forget the outside world for 1 week! Having 2 dogs, the beach and adjacent forest walks in the Dunnet Community Woodland were absolutely first class, we all benefited from fresh air and exercise. The weather also played it's part, some cold days but dry. It is well placed for Thurso John' O Groats and Wick as well as Duncansby Head.
Facilities due the COVID were restricted but this did not impact our stay at all.
Views and beach stunning
Booked here for 3 nights but only stayed for 1 as the weather wasn’t great (as you might expect for this part of the world) ! Quite exposed when very windy so be prepared for that. Beautiful beach where you can walk for miles but little else nearby so again bear that in mind. Really glad we visited. The only down side here is the toilet/ shower facilities which are mentioned in other reviews. 2 toilets only despite it being quite a large site. Not really up to the same standard as other sites we have visited. That said, great for those who are able and happy to use on board facilities. Great hotel called the Northern Sands just up the road. Lovely food and well organised re Covid safety.
Wonderful location
Absolutely loved this site, the beach is stunning, dog friendly and easily accessed directly from the site. The Site Wardens were friendly and helpful, providing information on our pitch, the facilities and the location. They clearly explained to read the information provided on the COVID restrictions and it can be fully understood why the facilities are restricted to one family group at a time, its just a case of avoiding peak times and being patient, though we didn't need to wait at all. We cannot wait to go back to this site and spend more time there and would highly recommend for anyone who wants a stunning beach and beautiful scenery.
Great Location
The main reason for staying here is the location on an extensive wild beach about as far north as you can get on the UK mainland. The site has adopted a range of Covid 19 measures including check-in by telephone and restricted toilet/shower access - probably easier to use your own facilities. The site borders a road so there is some road noise, but unlikely to bother most folks, The site is quite undulating so finding a level pitch isn’t easy without chocks. Quite an exposed site, so be prepared for all that mother nature can throw at you. Busy site given position on N500 route which is particularly busy this year. Friendly, helpful staff.
COVID gone mad
This was the final camp site for our Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride - 18 days and 18 campsites across the length of the country.
So we have seen a complete cross section of COVID ready preparations - from non-existent to extreme. An Dunnet Bay was the most extreme of the extreme
To only allow one person at a time in the toilet / shower blocks when the site is full is just crazy. I gave up with site facilities and used the public car-park toilets which fortunately were just around the corner. Luckily we only stayed one night.

September Adventure 2020
Very enjoyable visit to Dunnet Bay. Booking in was very easy by telephone and everything was carefully explained by the pleasant lady warden. Beach is very beautiful and well worth a long walk. Cycling on back quiet roads really good and all vehicles passing were giving plenty room. The Dunnet Forest Walk is well worth a visit to see the log cabin and sculptures. Only downside was members allowing their dogs to use the tent area as a toilet - very inconsiderate and unpleasant for those who had to pitch their tents there.
Fantastic
What a great site
our first stay here and will not be our last
Wardens are great we were going to arrive a little bit late but a very
nice call from the warden just to make sure we were ok and going to
arrive and to let us know not worry about being late which I thought
was a really nice touch
We arrived and the welcome was second to none nothing was to
much trouble easy to check in and all explained in a very polite and
Professional manner
We settled in and was not disappointed in the morning the views were
fantastic and the site was spotless we asked the warden if we could
extend our stay and with a flick of her fingers it was done so helpful
I would recommend this site to anyone great for family’s and couples
alike can not praise the wardens for there hard work to give everyone
a great holiday nothing to much trouble for them they take it all in
there stride
A big thank you to you both
Good to be back
As we have done many times before, had stopover on the way to Orkney and again week later on return. Site staff very welcoming and easy check in process. Given the covid issues we happily used own facilities so cannot comment on toilets/showers, although appeared to be good system for access. Happy to adhere to new rules etc for pleasure of getting back to sites.
A great holiday in new times
My wife and I, plus our convalescing dog had another great holiday at this wonderful site. Firstly a big thank you to the wardens who religiously did their best, working hard to a strict risk assessment which allowed us all to enjoy the site and facilities. Yes, there were the odd queues for the toilet block. Have we really become so intolerant to complain about a distancing queue, in these extreme times. We are a country with a queueing culture. Without this discipline the site would not have opened. It was kept very clean and tidy with procedures at each service point and a very well delivered reception and payment arrangement. The access to the beach was not a problem, all you had to do was walk out of the site entrance!! The site procedures allowed control over visitors wanting to use the toilets and we found it a very easy and efficient process. This area of Scotland has lots to see and do. The local hotel has a very COVID safe process for meals and they were excellent. Thank you for your hard work wardens and well done Caravan and Motorhome Club.
