Lovely site!!

Just returned from here, and would highly recommend this site, but would advise against buying wifi. Had trouble actually getting it, and found it very slow at best, and we were pitched immediately under a wifi mast.  The showers/toilets were the best we've used on a site, and the pitches are very well spaced and private. We will definitely return!!

A great site

The narrow roads and speeding drivers are worth the endurance to get to this beautiful site If you're into walking, it couldn't be situated better - the high levels of the Furness Fells, Coniston Old Man, Wetherlan, all within easy distance and if you fancy low level, Torver, Coniston and the lake walk are all nearby via relatively flat substantial paths - the walk to Coniston village via the old railway line is quiet and avoids the public campsite below CC site The facilities are modern and always clean and despite it being August, were quiet Whilst the site is amongst trees, there are pitches which take advantage of coppice clearings giving access to the sun! Friendly proficient staff rounded off my short enjoyable stay I'll be back

A site with character

This is a lovely site and is within about 400-500mtrs of Lake Coniston. It is a good location if you enjoy a nice walk, as you can walk in two directions to Coniston or Torver. The Wardens are very helpful and seem happy in their work. We left the M6 at J36 and approached the site from the South. I think this is a must as the Northern approach road from Ambleside is narrow and quite winding. Not good for caravans. We tried the fish and chips from the travelling chippy who calls 3 times a week, but were not impressed with them. I think the fish was Pollock and tasteless. We would definitely recommend the site though.

Superb location

A fantastic site for all ages. An excellent variety & locations of pitches. The natural wooded glens give the impression of a smaller site. Great facilities for children. The close proximity to Coniston Water is another advantage of this spotless site. All the staff are extremely helpful & friendly.

Large site

Visited this site for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly when we arrived.  The site was larger than we imagined and probably great for families.  Pubs were within walking distance.  The site itself was very clean and tidy and the shower facilities wonderful.

Fabulous setting! Not so clean site members!

This site is in a beautiful location near to the lake and about 1 1/2 miles to Coniston village. Ideal for travelling. A large site but on different levels. There are quiet and busier areas near the childrens play which are near the bottom of the site. Coniston is accessible by a partial lakeside walk. I stayed on this site with my daughter and grandchildren aged 5 & 1 for 8 days. We had a superb pitch 221 as it was in a very quiet cul de sac which was very private.  The wardens are wonderful, extremely hardworking and very helpful. We used the Baby and Toddler washroom which was immaculate and the main showers.  If you used the toilets after 3.30pm they were immaculate (warden cleaning) but if used late evening or early they were horrendous - do people treat their own bathrooms at home like like....some toilets were not even flushed! I feel very sorry for the wardens having to clean this disgusting mess...and this was the ladies! The weather was typical lakeland weather but this did not spoil our stay although we were very muddy! Would stay again but a little wary of using the toilet blocks late at night!

A Cut Above

We have visited Coniton twice now. Once at the start of the season (first Bank Holiday) and again towards the end of the main season in Sept (although site is open all year). Great for families. Intimate layout in clusters but site is huge & usually has capacity. You can walk down to Lake Coniston and also into Coniston village. We took a dinghy, which can be launched by driving to the lakeside. Just ask wardens for the padlock code. Off road & easy going family cycling can be had from the site, some of which is lakeside. Shops and restaurants in nearby village are good. Fish and chip van was on site on Friday. Kids really enjoy the lakes wildlife park which is not too far off by car. Toilet blocks are modern and clean. Only the last section of road becomes narrow but most drivers seem well aware that caravans and motor homes are frequent users. Probably best not to try to get there early as you are more likely to meet someone leaving! Final note of caution is not to drive right to the 'end' of the site past the toilet block and down the hill as the road becomes unmade and you may not get round the turning sweep if someone is parked there! I had to reverse up the hill with a twin axle caravan! Wardens were very efficient. They let me through at 8.00pm on the Friday of a Bank Holiday weekend & were still doing so at 9.00pm! Following morning had another 5 LNAs outside. It WILL take you longer than you think to get there but definitely worth it.

Fab site shame about weather

A fabulous site for families. Lovely wooded site with a variety of pitches. Definitely needed levelling blocks and rock pegs. We were situated on pitch 208 and there was a little noise from the tents next to us (not caravan club). We were under the trees which was very noisy when it rained and we didn't get much sun. If you are a sun worshipper be careful what pitch you choose. We had no sun. Wardens and staff were very friendly. Can't recommend the site enough it was just a shame that it poured the entire time we were there. Good access to lively areas like Ambleside and Windermere and Grizedale Forest (would recommend the orienteering for the family- great fun!). Great to walk to the lake from the site. Bring easy to carry chairs to take to the Lake. Great to see the sun set. Highly recommend the site- a bit hair raising travelling to it down the narrow lanes but take it nice and slow.
