Loved it

We had a lovely secluded pitch ticked away surrounded by trees. Moderate walk into the village itself.  Rather narrow approach roads. Will be back

First visit

First visit to this site. Plenty of pitches but many are under trees or in the shade. Disappointed that some fellow caravanners allowed their children to run around while the parents! chatted in their awnings until 2am. This resulted in many dogs getting agitated and barking = no sleep for me. 2nd night a bit quieter, perhaps the others were tired after their late night. Not the sites fault but being pitched at the nearest area to the wardens, they must have heard the noise as well. However, I am sure that the site is generally a good choice for those that do not mind pitching in the shade. Spotless toilet facilities, best I have seen on a club site.

Return Visit

This was our second visit to Coniston Coppice Park Site this year, great site for walking / cycling from but our main reason was to use our Kayaks on Coniston Water we managed to find a pitch at the lower end of the site so making it a short walk down to the water with the Kayaks, Caravan Club standards again first class will no doubt will visit again and again to the quiet side of the Lakes..

Lovely Coniston

We have just returned from a week at Coniston Coppice and, as per other reviews, it was a lovely site. The location is great, just a short walk in to Coniston (about 25 minutes) and very near to the lake. The wardens were really friendly and helpful and the facilities were very clean, as usual for Caravan Club. Although it is a large site, because of the way the pitches are laid out, it doesn't feel big at all. There are also a few decent play areas for the children. Having said all of this, I am not sure we would return for a number of reasons. Firstly, despite knowing it was in a forest, we didn't expect it to be so dark. Of all the 267 pitches, there are very few which get any sun at all. We were incredibly lucky to get a pitch with so few trees but an awful lot of people were in permanent shade. Also, the description tells you that a 400 yards walk will take you to the boat launch site, but I think this has got to be dependent on where you pitch. We had a kayak with us and had to drive out the caravan park at the bottom and park in the camping field adjacent to the site in order to launch it and then drive back to park the car. It is not walking distance at all if you are planning on using a boat. There were also a large number of pitches where the gravel was very sparse and unfortunately for us, due to heavy rain, our awning flooded twice. This was due to the lack of gravel directly in front of our van and the fact that we were on a slope. We did eventually ask the wardens to add more gravel which they did and then typically it didn't rain again. My final gripe was the water coming off the trees due to the rain made such a noise that I had at least 2 sleepless nights as it sounded like a herd of elephants running over the roof. I know it is the Lake District so you can expect rain but I think some cutting back of the trees would be very beneficial. Both to give some light and to eliminate some of the rain noise.

Excellent Site

Tried this site this last month ( normally use Kendal Site) and found it another excellent Club site. Well laid out site, wardens as always were friendly and helpful. Toilet blocks are all cleaned at different times which helps, always clean as you would expect for Club sites.  Well stocked shop with daily newspapers which don't need ordering.  We found nothing to detract and will revisit again.

Just got home

Writing a review should show both the positives and negatives so here goes: The site is well laid out and covers a large area and when the brochure says levelling blocks maybe required this should read railway sleepers and scaffolding are a must. We arrived early on a Friday and were lucky to get an almost flat pitch 250 however others that arrived later were not so lucky and as I always bring wood offcuts gave them out to assist. We watched as caravans and campers pulled in spent 20 minutes trying to get level and drive off again in frustration. Others have already commented on seasonal pitches taking up most of the prime spots but to add to this we noticed the non- awning pitches seemed large enough to pitch an awning so could not see why they could not make all the pitches have awnings. By just reducing a couple of numbers it could be rearranged to accommodate this and utilise all of the pitches instead of leaving them empty. My biggest gripe of the whole site was with the chip van ( I know this is not the fault of the site)but ripped people off 3 times a week. For young families with kids on a budget I was disgusted at the price. Sausage and chips £6.00 for the smallest portion ever. My advice would be to walk into Coniston which is not far and buy the same thing for £3.00. If no one believes me I was that taken back with the chips when I got back to my van I photographed it as evidence. Gripe over we had a great stay for 7 days, staff were great, site was clean and well-presented could not have wanted a better location. The couples on either side of us were the nicest people you could ever meet (Mike and Anita plus family). As a suggestion any chance of putting some hooks on the wall outside the office/shop to leave the dog whilst inside? We would go back to this site again without hesitation.

Brilliant week stay

Have just come back from a brilliant week at the site. Great part of the world, good position of the site, and I have to say the warden team was just superb. Thank you to all for making our stay so enjoyable. Definately a favourite...

Good site

Stayed for 2 weeks. Good facilities, usual Caravan Club high standards. Large site with many trees. Can be difficult to find a pitch not under trees and in the sun (when it shines). One small gripe is large number of seasonal pitches utilizing the prime pitches.
