Beautiful woodland site

We spent a week here towards the end of August. It is a large site, set among trees and near the lake. Our pitch was fine on sunny days, in a shady spot, but on wet days the trees seemed to be holding onto the rain so that it continued to fall on us when it had stopped elsewhere! Apart from that it was a lovely site. Excellent shower block and everywhere beautifully kept, in a wild woodland setting. The walk into Coniston along the Cumbrian Way was very scenic and took us about 40 minutes. A walk of about 20 minutes from the reception area took us to The Ship, a lovely country pub with decent bar meals. We enjoyed our time here and look forward to returning.

Great site and location, shame about levelling

This was my first visit here, living reasonably close I thought I'd give it a try to spend time with my son. Well the site was easy to get to, a few narrow areas but okay. The reception was great, although I wondered why they said pick a pitch then come back, now I know as some pitches are very uneven.. I picked a pitch and thought it was level, to find how very unlevel it actually was and needed levelling blocks. Being relatively new to this I was disappointed because it looked really level, but wasn't so had to have slopped pitch. Just advise people to always need blocks for site. Having said that what a great location, clean and quiet, we couldn't have asked for much more once sited. The shop I thought was small for the site, however, we had what we needed and coniston catered the basic essentials.

A very nice site

A very nice site indeed. Approach to this site may put some people off, due to narrow roads and steep hills. But it really is worth the effort where else can you site your caravan in a forest its great. The facilities are clean and very well looked after. This site is ideal for families.

Coniston

For the size of the site well set out, quiet with good facilities. Well placed for walking and for exploring the western lakes. Difficult not to, but we pitched under some big trees; hard little sleep for two nights when it rained heavily.

Coppice farm coniston

First time to this site . It was a lovely site fairly quiet considering how many pitches there are . The walk into coniston village is quite a walk .it seems further than a mile as stated . Everything nice and clean . .will definitely go again

Tranquil Coniston Park

Spent long relaxing weekend with family. A large site with access to the lake. Great for cycling and for dog walks too with footpath and cycle paths from the site. It was just what we needed.

Nice site in a busy location

Lovely site and position walking distance to coniston. Even though it was full the site didn't feel overcrowded and the facilities were excellent. Only complaint I have I'd booked a non awning pitch as I have a motorhome so my choice of pitch was limited and the pitches very small and not very level so if visiting this site I suggest you book a pitch with awning

A different experience

This site is set in a dense woodland area with numerous glades and clearings for caravan and motor home parking. The layout is quite natural, however the mature trees tend to restrict and obscure the sun in some instances, also compounding the noise element on the caravan roof during a heavy downpour, which occurred on numerous occasions during our visit. This site is located in a beautiful area, close to the lake and within easy walking distance of Coniston village. Access roads and footpaths around the site are very good, and the site is well maintained, with spotlessly clean toilet blocks.

Repeat visit to this lakeside site

This was our second trip to this site.  We booked the week to stay prior to the August Bank Holiday.  The main draw of this site is the proximity to the launching area on the beach of Coniston Water.  This facility is available by driving through a locked gate across another camp site.  The access code is held in reception.  However, during our stay it was abused somewhat so respect the CC instructions or lose the privilege.  The idea is to drop off your gear then return your car to site making sure the gate is secured.  Despite us strictly adhering to this policy we were challenged by the staff once on the other site and told we were not allowed to bring our vehicles there.  After much discussion we were allowed to drop our stuff off.  The site is steeply terraced and most of the pitches are tight and a bit dingy.  We were lucky and secured a pitch at the top of site where the space was better and sunlight was available.  Take insect repellent because the midges are ferocious.  The toilet blocks are excellent and modern though why the CC insist on closing whole blocks off for cleaning always beats me.  It is totally unnecessary and a task easily administered by other organisations.  Take care when approaching site as some stretches of the road from Greenodd to Torver are very tight for outfits.  So we will go back but only if the process of accessing the lake launching beach is clarified fully and remains available.

Ideal for watersports

Much has already been said that I agree with. In short, good location, exceptionally well kept, little sun when it does come out, trees could do with pruning. Wife thought shop OK in emergency but pricey. CC members very lax when it came to locking gate down to lake, nearly always left unlocked hence campers from other site driving up to CC site and hanging around until someone let them in to toilet block. If this facility were to be taken away then members wanting to use lake would go elsewhere. Not easy to find pitch for large outfit, manoevering dufficult, maybe a different colour peg could be used to keep these vacant when larger outfits booked in advance. Been here twice and will no doubt return next year if lake access is still available.
