Friendly, well maintained site

This site is lovely. The location is great, close to Coniston Water with a place to launch boats and a short-ish walk into Coniston itself, either via the old railway line or along the Cumbria Way. The facilities are clean and the staff work really hard to maintain high standards - the obvious things like cleaning the toilet blocks etc but also ensuring the overall beautiful appearance of the site. They are also really friendly and helpful. The shop seems better stocked this year, I can recommend the Cumbria ready meals in the freezer! And this year they accepted subscription vouchers in payment for daily newspapers which is great. Having now visited four times, this is a site I love and is nearly always first choice when we are thinking of going away.

Too shady

This is the first time we have used this site, the access is from the south and it is still tight in places, from the north it must be a nightmare. We got 4 days of sunny warm weather but if it had been overcast or raining we would have found the site quite depressing with all the trees and very little open sky and with rain dripping off the trees, so for this reason alone we wont be going back. The wardens as always were great, facilities great and spotless. The lake district is a fantastic place for sight seeing, walking, cycling, shopping or just sitting and looking. Car parking in the towns is a problem in peak season and expensive.

Children and adults .Speed limits

Our stay AT Coniston Park Coppice was spoiled to some extent by children and in some part adults cycling around the park with complete disregard to the 5 MPH speed limit. Our pitch was located alongside a road leading down towards the bottom toilet block which had a steep gradient. Vehicles using the site adhered to the speed limit at all times. Speeds in excess of 20 MPH were common and one group were using the hill for time trial purposes with one group logging the respective times for each person. A number of people complained to to site office and although one of the wardens spoke to a number of the offenders the situation was just as bad the following day I think that more effort could have been made at the site booking in office to warn people of the speed limit in operation on the site. It was a shame that these incidents should spoil the stay for the people sited near to this gradient. R.Bottomley.

First Visit

As a new CC member and novice to the scene, I was pleased with the site and facilities on it. In the past I had stayed in a tent nearby, where facilities were a lot more rustic.  Coniston is a great location with lots to do in the area. The approach is narrow, but manageable especially if the arrival and departure are timed appropriately. I am sure we will be visiting again.

What a Gem....

We stopped off here on our way south and it was well worth the effort (30 miles from M5). The road there is a bit of an issue with several really narrow sections but just be careful and it's OK. The site itself is wonderful, with lots of nooks and crannies where you can pitch up. The facilities are what you'd expect on a CC site with immaculate toilets and well maintained grounds. Only 10 minutes walk to the waterside and 30 minutes to Coniston village where you have all you need with a small supermarket, petrol station and 3 pubs serving good food and drink. Loads to see around about and the scenery is absolutely stunning. Dog walking is a doddle, just take them down to the water. Just be careful of the sheep in the field. Despite the terrible access road, we'll certainly return to this magnificent site.

A bit noisy

This is the 2nd time we have stayed, unfortunately we were near the toilet block and the doors to the them drove us mad. They slam to on a regular basis early in the morning.

Four Day Stay!

Very welcoming friendly staff after a bit of a stressful journey in.  The roads are very narrow in parts and not good when you meet oncoming traffic.  Lovely camp with a forest setting.  The village was further away than we thought for walking back on an evening but Overall a very nice spot in the lakes.  Personally though I think we would choose one of the other sites on the network with easier access next time.

Coniston Caravan Club Review

Excellent. The staff were polite, informative and friendly. All the facilities were very clean and the site itself was very tidy. We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 weeks were there, including the time with our little one, as the play park for the younger children was excellen - he loved it. We will definately visit again in the not too distant future. Thank you.
