Before being chased out of the shower block by rude cleaners because I had misread the ridiculously early cleaning times, I had enjoyed the site.
Beautiful location and really friendly people just spoiled by poor customer service.
Put me off returning and recommending this site.
LARGE BUT VERY PEACEFUL
We usually try to avoid larger sites, but Coniston Park Coppice was a delight. Really helpful, friendly staff on reception and immaculately clean facilities offset the feeling that you're in an urban housing estate with its numerous cul-de-sacs.
We'd read a handful of negative reviews but didn't recognise the picture they painted. The site is imaginatively laid out with the different pitch sizes easily identified by their markers. Rather than allocate you to a specific pitch, the staff allow you to choose where you want to be, then return to reception to inform them and collect keys for the facilities. All pitches have hardstanding and you're likely to need levelling blocks, but there's plenty of space. It's a really peaceful location.
We'd recommend bikes for getting to Coniston or Torver. If you take the lakeshore path to Coniston, you'll pass through another site which has some of the worst reviews we've ever read, and you'll understand why Coniston Park Coppice is so popular. The nearest pub is the cosy Ship Inn, which does great food at sensible prices.
Not for us
Currently sat outside at 10pm and we have gangs of kids running around screaming, shouting and blowing whistles. Parents obviously don't care about the noise their kids are making.
Tomorrow we will be looking for a different site to move to. I don't mind kids having fun but this is ridiculous.
Perhaps this is normal behaviour on Caravan Club sites but it's not for me.
Great Site
Found Coniston Park Coppice C&MC site ideal for South Western Lake District,
Ideal for walking Lake side and Fells,
Only big disappointment being, Seeing American Grey Squirrels on site in a sensitive Native Red Squirrel area,
Did mention to the Wardens, But I'm afraid as usual nothing seems to be going to be done about arradicateing these Rodents,
I have reported these sightings to the relevant groups,
These groups are working very hard to arradicate the Greys enabling our native Reds to return to our Woods
Third visit August 2017
Our third visit to this site predominantly due to its excellent location for the lake beach and launch site. It was noticeable that the staff made much more of an effort to engage with us and our friends than in previous visits which is refreshing. They directed us to perfectly suitable pitches without having to go and search them out. Many reviews comment on the "small, dark, awkward pitches" on this terraced site. To be honest, I would expect nothing else on such a valley side placement. That is what the Lake District is so it doesn't bother us. Some of the centre of the site has been cleared of trees this year so it is more open there.
The draconian rules once enforced by the CC upon the orientation of your van were relaxed here which is much more sensible (as long as you maintain a safe distance from the next pitch). We have a continental style outfit so that was very refreshing. We had the same sensible approach and experience at the Longleat site recently so we hope this is new policy alongside the rebranding. Well done!
I would have marked it higher but for noisy dogs that barked incessantly at everything within earshot; not a reflection of the site so much as the dog owners upon it. We will be going back next year I'm sure.
Characterful Site
First visit to this site and we selected it for the children's facilities as well as the woodland location. The last few miles of road to the site can be tight in places but take your time and it's ok. The welcome was warm and friendly on arrival with the warden asking about our party before suggesting some available pitches. How level the pitch is can vary substantially. We were lucky not to need our levelling blocks but walking around the site we were definitely in th minority. Facilities on site are excellent. Plenty of showers and toilets all kept very clean. Play facilities for children were good. TV signal was ok but again i think we were lucky with the pitch. No mobile data signal at all (3 and Vodafone). Only stayed 3 night but will be back.
Will not return to this site.
We stayed the beginning of August and wish we had booked a different site. It's dark, gloomy and grubby looking. We chose a pitch purely as it had the tiniest amount of sun that could get through but that's as good as it gets. It did rain but rather than the rain draining away it sat on the mud as the hardstanding gravel was no longer there. Our awning carpet and the bottom of our awning itself was covered in mud. We had a mud pool floating on top of our carpet. The shower block was clean but dated and closed for cleaning at 10:30am which I thought was quite early. The bins and the drinking water was all together but no proper path to get to them so again you had to mud walk just to get water. They also didn't warn you not to have a bin as the foxes will come at night and put rubbish all over your awning floor. The site staff are friendly and welcoming but that's the only good bit. We will not return to this site.

First Time to Coniston Park Coppice
This was my husband & my first time to this Club site. Wardens were helpful & pleasant at reception, explained how the site was set out and gave us a site map. The 3 toilet blocks were very clean as you'd expect from Club sites and were located evenly about the site and we found a pitch probably middle of the site. Little shaded but when the sun was out it was pleasant enough. Although a very big site it never felt over-crowded because of all the small sectioned off areas. I'm sure some larger outfits may find it more difficult to maneuver around the area.
The site is a pleasant walk from Coniston and we found the circuit round Coniston Lake a nice cycle and the roads were relatively quiet, but we probably would have had more choice if we'd taken mountain bikes rather than road racing bikes. Good area for walking dogs too.
Probably won't go back to this particular site due to the narrowness of the roads on approach from the north or south, but we had a lovely peaceful break.
Never going there again - awful!
We used this Club Site due to the location close to Coniston and surrounding area and that's about the best you can say. As with other reviewers we found finding a pitch dreadful and after a drive of 5+hours this is really not what you want. The pitches are laid out in small cul de sacs around a huge coppiced area and were in a dreadful state of repair. They don't drain well after rain so you end up sitting in numerous small lakes. Overall the site is dark, dank and gloomy and if the sun shines then you are in total shade anyway. Unless you plan to be out ALL day then we wouldn't recommend this site, it is not one you would want to sit outside your van with a G&T and a good book! If you leave your van without the site map then leave at least 15mins time to find you way back once inside the site! Some on-site directional signs (eg toilets, water, etc) would be really useful, or even if they call certain areas a relevant name (eg Bluebird coppice, Lake Coppice etc) so at least you had a clue where your van was pitched! They have great little drying rooms at each shower block for wet coats etc but they were not working so pretty useless.
All in all we didn't enjoy this site at all and would not stay here or recommend it to anyone.
On the positive side the Wardens were all lovely and friendly and can only work with what they are given.
Maybe the Club need to have a long conversation with the National Trust who own the site?
