Shelterd amongst the trees

We live near the area and know Coniston very well. The site may not suit everyone, we just went to relax and get away from normal routine for a couple of nights. On arrival the staff were great, really friendly, we had to use a couple of blocks under the front legs, no problem though, the showers are immaculate as is the whole site, in the morning it was lovely to hear the birds sing and even though it rained it didn't spoil it for us. We went to Coniston for lunch and then to Hawkshead for tea and scones in the afternoon with our dog, it was really nice. We will go back sometime it's handy for us.

Overpriced high density camping

Certainly the least pleasant site we have used. The without awning pitches seem to have been added as an afterthought. They are not in any way flat enough to use without leveling and barely big enough to get onto. At the price you expect some degree of comfort but the Club's objective seems to be to maximise the income from a popular destination by cramming in as many customers as possible. The staff and facilities are to the usual high standard but the sheer number of people make it feel like a out of town shopping mall with trees, and not particularly nice trees at that. Suggest you find one of the smaller, less expensive independents and savour the peace and quiet.

Like pitching up in a quarry!!

My least favourite club site so far. Why? There was hardly any greenery, no flowers and slate every where. Finding a pitch was very hit and miss and many were incredibly uneven- despite using our leveller to the max, I still had to hold my pans on the hob to cook. On the plus side, the facilities were clean, the shop good and the location, 30 mins walk to Coniston good- but so they should be at £27-50 per night! Is it me, or have prices at club sites increased a lot?

Stunning area -slightly challenging site

Very enjoyable week in half term April 2017. Area absolutely stunning (and weather almost entirely rainless) although I could imagine it being pretty blocked up in July/August.Facilities up to usual CC high standards and very helpful wardens. When the site is busy however alot of the available pitches are too small & unusable for a medium sized van (when putting the back corner to the peg). Given that you can arrive on site at 10AM but leavers can stay until 12 mid day it may be best to get there as early as possible. It says in the details to take levelling blocks with you & they are not wrong-some pitches need two large blocks of stone to achieve a level van. However the scenery is amazing & the site tends to be popular with families in school holidays so does have a very friendly feel.

Perfect woodland location

Despite the size of the site, there are several pockets on the site that make you feel that you are on a smaller site. Clean and plentiful facilities and friendly wardens. Ideally located for the lake and Coniston village and ample walks from the site. The walk to Coniston and onto Tarn Hows is a must. Plenty of places closeby to eat if you want a night off from cooking, particularly The Ship Inn which serves amazing home cooked food and The Black Bull, where the food is also good, but the prickly pear cider is a must!

Perfect for our first ever motorhome holiday

So glad we chose this site for our first ever motorhome holiday. The staff were friendly and helpful, the site spotless and the little shop packed with all sorts of bits and pieces. It was unfortunate that there were wifi problems whilst we were there, but we soon got used to being off line! Lovely walks and everyone kept their dogs under control. I look forward to another visit soon.

Wooded site close to Coniston

We spent three nights her in April 2017, the site has several parking areas dotted about the woodland and is completely surrounded by trees. The usual spotless CC facilities and an easy walk to the lakeside. Helpful and really friendly wardens. Stunning scenery. This is a National Trust members utopia. So much to see and such natural beauty. Make sure you visit Tarn Hows, a short drive away on winding narrow lanes.. The Sites Directory suggests approach from the South and I couldn't agree more, as we came from Scotland we did the opposite and while it was no actual problem even the main 'A' roads are very narrow and can be quite busy manking travelling time slow and at times very difficult. We probably had the worst fish ever from the mobile fish and chip van although the chips were lovely - I think he just couldn't cope with the queue and rushed things - never again! A lovely, albeit very busy site.

Coniston

Loved this campsite! There were loads of pitches to choose from! We were told where the quieter places were as it was just my husband and I. This place would be great for families as well a lovely clean and friendly campsite.

Mixed Feelings

This is my least favourite Caravan & Motorhome Club site that we've stayed on so far. It's a very large site set into the woodland, with mainly gravelly pitches. The positive things were the usual high standard Club facilities, all very nice and clean and there's a good shop on site. The Staff were helpful and very pleasant. The location is convenient for Coniston Lake as you can walk from the site down to the Lake in about 10 mins. There seemed to be no pitch allocation so it was a bit of a free-for-all. For us though, the downside was the noise on the site. This is definitely a site more suited for families and I totally accept it was school holiday time, but there was a lot of children playing on bikes and scooters and skateboards. The number of barking dogs was unacceptable and the noise levels were amplified by the site being in the valley. I felt like I was in the middle of a housing estate. In all fairness, it was quiet at night time. Personally though, I didn't find the site relaxing but this was just us (travelling as a couple in a motorhome). We decided to move on to a quieter site further up the lake.

Nuthatches & Bluebirds!

A fabulous week was had at the beginning of April with great weather, quiet roads, a pair of Nuthatches took some bread crumbs and of course the famed Coniston Bluebird Bitter at the Black Bull...just FAB!...FYI Wilsons Pub at Torver is fantastic for food and service with a smile just now and also we tried the Jintana Thai Restaurant (Compston Road Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 9DJ) which was fantastic for something alternative to pub grub...but of course other pubs and restaurants are available!! Mish.
