Facilities were second to none. Showers, toilets, separate wash basins, washing up facilities and dry room. Staff were attentive and very helpful.
Great stay! We stayed extra nights 😀
We live in a remote area and knew it would be busy in the Lakes as we had inadvertently booked in school holidays. What surprised us though was how friendly everyone was, both on the site and off. The wardens put on a Halloween special for the children and were very helpful.
We booked for 5 nights and arrived in rain. Many of the pitches in the area we wanted to stay (Green A) looked rather wet so we picked a site that was part gravelled, we did need our ramps. This part of the site closed at the end of our stay so I presume that it is known as a wetter part and therefore not used in winter. There are however many other pitches that we could have chosen that were dry and fully gravelled. This is a forested site so you should be ready for noisy nights if it rains, as the trees may drip on skylights. That said, we loved it and decided to stay an extra 2 nights.
We were amazed at the birdlife, Great Spottted woodpeckers, Marsh Tit and Nuthatches were all around the site. We only went offsite once as there was plenty to do in the area. We had two days hillwalking, walking from the site. We walked down to Torver Pier (15 mins) and picked up the Coniston boat. We went to Torver Village and had coffee and cake in the deli. We walked to The Ship Inn (15 mins but needed our wellies as muddy) where we had some great meals (dog friendly) and to Coniston (1 route via the Ship Inn and 1 route alongside the lake - both muddy) where we ate at the Yewdale (dog friendly) and the Bluebird Cafe.
As we were coming from the North we did not follow the instructions to approach from the south and had no issues in our Motorhome. In fact after driving the South route, we thought this was worse!
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Beware of the Trees
Just Returned from a 3 night stay at this site our first time here . We Booked on Pitch Number 56 our Choice as the site was not full and as it is a very big site part of it would be closing on the 05/11. We did not have our Awning the Pitch was Big enough for us ..The first Night was Horrendous we had Rain but because there was overhanging Trees we had a constant thud of Rain on our Motorhome . We Moved the following day to the Pitch next door as that one came vacant . After that we enjoyed a quiet night even though it did rain in through the night.
The Toilet Block was down a small hill it was lit at night but a torch was needed as there was stones and some larger stones on the path so care was needed. The Toilets were Clean warm and the showers lovely .
The first day we had a walk into Tover with the dogs that took around 30 mins we had a nice drink in Wilsons pub we did not eat any food but we did see people eating and the food looked good but it was rather expensive.
On Sunday we decided to walk to Coniston we took the Path through the old disused railway line that was pleasant 35 mins very muddy but we got there in the end . We walked near to the lake had a coffee and a cake each £11.60 lovely coffee and a cake in the sun lovely views.
We had a look round the town not much to see but lots of Pubs and Cafes we had a drink in one of the pubs the dogs were allowed inside which was nice . We did not eat but there was
people eating, the food looked good but again expensive. We decided to walk back a different way it did take us around 50 mins but not as muddy so all good.
The Wardens on site work hard one of them went out early and came back late the day was spent with a blower blowing all the leaves from the pathways . A job i thought was pointless .We had a lovely time there and would go back but would choose a different pitch .
October 1 night stopover
This was our second trip to this site located conveniently on the edge of Coniston village and Coniston Water. As with our previous trip the welcome was warm and helpful, booking in made extremely easy and straight forward. Advice was given to find a quiet spot and where facilities were on site as well as those in the immediate neighbourhood.
Despite the size of the site and it being school holidays it was surprisingly quiet as the site is split into different areas. An excellent idea.
Laundry, toilets and showers on site were utilised and all in good working order, clean and warm, ensure a good supply of coins for the laundry though!
The Motorhome Service Point that we used was clean and everything easily accessible, so not too much going backwards and forwards or moving the MH for different things. One of the great things with the site was the number of these points dotted around, not just the one with everybody queuing to use.
Lighting around the site is good low level which was more than adequate for finding yur way around the site without causing too much light pollution.
The only reason for marking down the 'Good for Families' section is that we did not look for this type of activity, so could not give a proper assessment.
Thank you all, I'm sure we will be back
Lovely forest site
We have just returned from a half term break at this site. We arrived in the middle of storm Brian after an 8 hour drive, wardens were friendly and helpful advising of possible best pitches. In the pouring rain we managed to find the best pitch for us and got in as quickly as possible. We had a lovely walk down to the river the next morning, so nice to be right on the lake side. The facilities were exactly as you would expect from a C&MC site, always clean and well kept. All in all we had no complaints. Can highly recommend the chippy on the corner in Coniston, only a 5 minute drive away, lovely food and a reasonable price, and close enough to get it back to the caravan piping hot!
Having read reviews on here I was slightly concerned as to whether we had chosen the best site as we like open views and sunny pitches, if that is what you are looking for this isn't the site for you. But, lets face it, this is the Lake District, there are a lot of trees! This is a forest site and the pitches are irregular but they do the best they can under the conditions.
If you are looking for a site that takes you back to nature with helpful friendly staff you won't be disappointed!
Beautiful site.
This was our first visit to the Coniston site & we were not disappointed. The location is super for walking into the village along the side of the lake. There are lovely pubs nearby ( dogs usually welcome) & good take-always. The site itself is very big & well spread out. We couldn’t seem to get our tv to work with the booster aerial. The wardens were very helpful & even lent us one of their aerials to try but in the end we moved to a higher pitch where we got a decent picture with our own aerial ( though no BBC). But you don’t go to this area to watch tv!!!! Muncaster Castle is a good day out & also a ride on the Cumbrian Coastal railway! Brilliant!!!

Excellent site
Stayed here in September and had a great stay. A little wet but had plenty of walks all around Coniston. The staff were very helpful and the site was well maintained. Excellent clean toilets and showers.
Walked into the lovely village of Coniston from the site along the path by the Coniston water.
This site is near the paths up the Old Man of Coniston so no need to use your car.
Will definitely come back next year to explore more of the beautiful lake district.

Short stay
We stayed on this site in July when it was very busy due to school holidays. We were very disappointed with the site in general. The pitches did not seem to be clearly marked out and it seemed untidy. Although there 3 separate shower facilities on site, due to it being busy, I was disappointed to find that block A had changed times for cleaning that week, and would be closed 09.30 - 1030am. This to me is a prime time when people would want to be using the facilities, more so if they are going off site before 12.00pm.
Nice walks nearby and a nice walk into Coniston, but we don't think we will be using this site again.
Peace of affordable heaven in an amazing location
Been to this site many times with my husband and two dogs. Every time we have been we can't fault customer service , friendly welcoming staff who are always happy to help. The facilities on offer for the price is amazing. As for the location, it's perfect for dog walks, access to lake and the village. Good dog friendly pubs in walking distance to. It is a huge site and is well maintained. It's a delight to come and stay. We have enjoyed many happy times here and will continue to come as long we have our caravan :-)
Natural, wooded site near lake with great facilities
Enjoyed staying here due to natural feel with pitches scattered around trees. Huge site but doesn't feel it. Easy to walk to lakeshore and access for watersports. Great showers probably best in a long time for us. Friendly welcome despite arriving just after reception closure time. Loved the drying room a few more pegs or shelves would be great. So many facility points for rubbish water and loo disposal so we did not need to go far. The shop is tiny and so don't expect too much bring food with you. Great walk into coniston village and nice pubs along the top or by the lake. This was our wettest ever stay in the Lakes but we still really enjoyed staying at this site.
