Disappointed

If you like the well manicured club sites don’t come here. Some of the pitches are really poor. The access to the site is not good with twisty narrow lanes, not ideal with an 8ft wide motorhome towing a car. This site has two camping pods, approx 8 log cabins and two £100k twin wheeled airstreams sites. You can seen where the money from the expensive site fees is being spent, certainly not on maintaining the pitches. Won’t be back.

Disappointing

The site is fine though some members pitch inappropriately One aspect is really annoying........there is a take-away unit near the entrance on the site obviously sanctioned by the club but seems to close if it is convenient for them despite having advertised opening times. This is especially annoying when for instance when you plan to use them on your first or last night on the site and have no stocks of supplies. The Club should ensure any “franchise” or arrangement they have with this business should be reliable.

Our 3rd fantastic visit

We visited 13th Feb for 3 nights, We were greeted by friendly staff and advised that part of the park was closed ( no problem ) Storm Dennis was due to hit this weekend and the wardens said if we had any problems to let them know. The site is spotless and they are forever cleaning up, always friendly and time to chat, massively helped us out when leaving as a bad crash due to the floods on our route home and caused delays up to 5 hours so we stayed on for a couple more hours to save us being sat in a jam - thank you The walking is fab and within reach of the old man of Coniston its a hard walk but worth it, close to the lake, also2 pubs ( turn left ) on an enclosed path, approx. 2 miles away turn right to the ship inn about a mile away This was our 3rd visit and wont be our last :-) keep up the good work

Brilliant stay again

Our 2nd stay at Coniston last year and while a little dissapointed some of the pitches where closed it really didn't distract from another wounderful stay there. We arrived on 22/12/19 and left on 29/12/19 we had a great xmas there really enjoyed ourselves along with our 3 little jrts it's a short walk to Torver where we had a great xmas day drink in the Wilsons Arms the locals made us feel very welcome welcome and put some food on. We where due to stay till after New Year but due to my wife not feeling well we had to leave early but we will be back later this year.

Shortage of pitches .....

On arrival I was told that only a third of the site is kept open during the winter. This meant that at the busy time just after New Year there were very few pitches to chose from and this was compounded by a contractor spreading gravel on a number of pitches. I understand that keeping just one facility block open is economic during the winter months but it is a shame that members aren't allowed to have a bigger choice of pitches if they are prepared to walk a bit further. Strangely, the lighting and EHU points were lit throughout the whole of the closed off sections. The facility block was not particularly warm and the showers could have been hotter - surely a key requirement from a club site in winter? A lack of lighting descending the steps away from the facility block is a distinct safety concern.

Brilliant location for exploring Southern and West Lakes

Many years ago we stayed at this site and decided to return with our daughter and family who are now caravaners. Although it was full because it was half term there was still the air of tranquility and quietness. If you are happy with a pitch in woodland this is for you as most of the pitches are under trees. The site is well laid out with a number of areas separated by woodland. The site is a short distance from Coniston village. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to walk there. At the village there are a number of cafes and the one by the Lake is worthwhile going to. It is busy but well managed and organised. The site is ideally situated for exploring the southern and western lakes. There are lovely walks suitable for all abilities. A trip on the steam gondola is well worth doing. Our two grandchildren (11 and 13) had a great time. On a particularly wet day they had a brilliant time on Go Ape in Grizedale Forest. One concern was the state the toilets were left in the morning (clearly done by caravanners and left for others including the wardens to clean). All in all we enjoyed our return to the site and would highly recommend it.

One of the best

Perfect location, excellent facilities, kept spotlessly clean by wardens who were a pleasure to meet. An ideal base for seeing the Lake District, the pitches were large and the gaps between even bigger. A 20-25 minute walk from the site, along the lake to Coniston village, Bluebird cafe by the pier we’ll worth a visit, and it’s pet friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Trip round UK

Having visited the Coniston area over many years, I wanted to go back, this time in my own “home” and found this perl. Of course a site with kids, can never be a totally quiet place, but it was great to see so many kids enjoying the parks facilities and having a great time. I enjoy walking, although not fit at the moment to tackle the “Old Man of Coniston” I found some lovely easy walks along the shores of Lake Coniston and a visit to the local museum was a great insight to the local life. The park it self is in a woodland in the Lake District, so leveller are needed, but that should not surprise anyone, so I was prepared. Great stay. Will be back!

Autumn family holiday

We stayed here for a week this October. It's a big site that slopes down towards the lake. Note no pitches at the side of the lake. Upon arrival the Staff were very friendly and helpful of the surrounding area. The pitches vary in size and as you are in woodland the pitches are between the trees and rocky surfaces. We took our bikes and there is a great route to cycle or walk through the bottom of the site through a gate to the lake and into Coniston. The lake itself is beautiful with stunning scenery. We took our kayaks with us and you can throw your Kayak/ Canoe in from access from the site. Parking is not permitted at the side of the lake, but you can drop off and park the car at the bottom of the site. Coniston itself is a small village approx 30 to 40 minute walk with 5 great dog friendly pubs that do nice food. There is a pub called the Ship inn approx 20 mins walk away down an old bridal path. Take torches if venturing out in the evening. The steam Gondola is a must to see, it's fairly priced and the views from the lake are stunning. Dogs are permitted although in the open front or rear of the vessel. There is a cafe and boat hire place where you can hire out rowing boats, small motor boats and paddle boards. We took the kids over to Wild Cat Island ( peel Island ) which is the island featured in the kids film Swallows and Amazons. It's a great place to explore with the Kayaks. We had a great time and will definitely be going back again
