We decided to revisit Coniston Park Coppice site a second time because of its great location and also because we wanted to book two Experience Freedom glamping pods for our son and daughter and their partners.
We received a very warm welcome from the wardens who were very helpful in suggesting pitches which would be near to the glamping pods. There were quite a few available to choose from which was great. This is a very different site to the usual CAMC sites as there is very little grass, pitches are very individual and mostly surrounded by trees. It is all very in keeping with the beautiful setting by the lake, a few minutes walk away. It was very quiet and peaceful. Only the toilets were open but the facilities were very clean and people did seem to adhere to the Covid guidelines.
We spend our time walking, completing the circular walk via Torver and Coniston and also a long walk around Rydal Water. It was too rough on the lake for the kayaking and paddle boarding that we had booked through Coniston Boating Centre but they were happy to change our booking for a motorboat instead. We also enjoyed a wild swim off Torver Jetty although it was very cold! A lovely few days away and we would return to the site.
Our only gripe was that the people next to us did not park their caravan according the given instructions regarding lining up with the peg .The peg was situated in the middle of the back of their caravan with an awning one one side and a large SUV on the other which was very close to our pitch. We did not use our awning due to the weather but if we had it would have come right up to our neighbour's car. We did not like to complain but is something to be aware of as I am not sure that the wardens were checking for this.
Take a 25m TV Ariel cable
We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed the Site and walks into the fells . the only thing that let the site down was that the TV reception was non existent but when we read the paperwork , there was a TV link in every power point, BUT you needed a 25 m TV Ariel cable.. Available to buy at the reception it said, Great. Except They didn't have any.
SO, Take an Ariel cable with you.

Lovely
Recently visited Coniston for the 3rd time. This time over an extended early May Bank Holiday weekend.
We really like this site, as it is not set out in regimented lines. It gives the impression of being on a much smaller site, when actually it is massive.
We had a great stay, the weather was reasonable, apart from Bank Holiday Monday, which is typical. We had some lovely walks and eat out at the Yewdale Inn in the Village a couple of times. We also had a drink at the Sun Inn and snacks at the Bluebird Cafe, after we'd done some water based activities down there. On previous visits we've eaten at the Ship Inn, but this wasn't yet open following Lockdown easing, as they don't have much of an outdoor area.
I'm sure we'll be back again the next time we're fancying a visit to the Coniston area.
The wristband system that the Club is using in the toilet blocks would work much better if people actually followed it properly, but this is the same at all Club sites atm and says more about the customers than the sites!
Will not return
Reading other site reviews I have been struck and sometimes bemused by the occasional very negative review amongst others praising a site. We have just left the Coniston site after a one night stay and would agree with the majority of reviews, location great, access challenging, likely to need levelling on a good number of pitches, on site food only OK. However, my wife and one other lady found themselves locked in the toilets this morning, at around 9.15 despite their two wrist bands being at the door (the toilets close for cleaning at 9.30). They were there hammering on the windows for over 10 minutes before the male site attendant let them out. As a result of his extremely rude responses, my wife decided to record the matter with the site staff when leaving. She is not of a complaining nature! After receiving a smiling "did you enjoy your stay" she was all the more shocked when the smile immediately dropped from the face of the attendant and she was on the receiving end of a further surly, rude and defensive response. It just goes to show that the true measure of site staff can be found when things go wrong. Lesson learned - we will not be back to this site.
4 night motorhome stay
This was only our second campsite stay in our new Motorhome, so we're still on a steep learning curve.
The staff on the campsite were very friendly and took time out to offer us advice on certain aspects of Motorhoming.
The toilets were open but not showers due to covid restrictions.
What facilities were very clean .
The new drive over Motorhome point is really good.
The hard standing pitch was quite level and large enough for our awning.
The only negative about the pitch was that , unfortunately for us, fresh slate chippings had been added which is good apart from the amount of dust from this making a mess. It just needs a few good rain downpours to solve this.
We walked along side the lake towards Coniston one way and Torver in the other direction. Both took around 30 minutes.
We also had a ride out to ambleside which is around 6 miles away. The road is narrow in places ,so expect to have to stop for oncoming traffic on occasion.
On our first night we prebooked a takeaway from the online from the visiting food van.
Unfortunately this was very disappointing & wouldn't recommend it.
The club could do with looking into this.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and can reccomend it.
Lovely, quiet, relaxing
We have just returned from a 3 night stay here. It was our first 'proper' trip away since buying our motorhome. It was so peaceful and in a lovely natural setting. Although the pitches were numbered they weren't in a regimental fashion. There were little areas where there were only 3-4 pitches and others where you had your own little area. Set among the trees, our pitch had lovely views over rolling hills and only sheep for neighbours. We were lucky and had lovely weather for our few days and the staff allowed us to park the 'van' so that we got the best of the sunshine rather than having to be near the pitch marker.
It takes about 25-30 minutes to walk into the village and we had a lovely meal in one of the pubs. There is an alternative route into the village which takes you along the waters edge and takes a little bit longer but a very nice walk.
We went for a ride on the gondola and then had lunch at the cafe on the waters edge. To get to the marina you have to double back on yourself as the Sailing Club prevents you walking along the waters edge which outs another 20 minutes on your walk.
Due to Covid restrictions there were only 4 toilet cubicles open to use and the band system of access is a very good system if people use it! Both my husband and I waited outside for the loo for 5 minutes or more as the bands were on the hooks only to find that there was actually nobody in there.
We will certainly visit here again and next time take our dogs with us as they will love all the lovely walks and next time we will stay longer.
Ticks lots of boxes!
We stayed here for 7 days, extending our original plans for 4 nights to 7. We had fantastic weather which always helps. Pitches are spread out in nooks and crannies and at different levels on the hillside, many need levelling blocks and the first one we tried to pitch proved to be quite difficult for us to get level so we walked around the site and found a nice level pitch tucked away. It does seem a bit of a lottery on how level your pitch is. Despite looking quite tightly packed in and higgledy piggledy, the overall ambience is one of peace and quiet with all manner of wildlife around you. I would imagine with trees in leaf it is quite a shady site. It was nice to be able to make use of the onsite food bar with pizza/chips on a couple of evenings. Walking from the site is great with a footpath directly to the lake and on into Coniston, also not far to the lake for launching kayaks etc. Staff constantly seen cleaning and emptying the bins, we used our own facilities so cannot make comment on those. The only negative about this site is the route to to it - narrow and winding (not for the faint hearted), odd that the CAMC do not have a later check in time to make this road route easier to navigate.
Great site despite the weather
Lovely natural layout with lots of nooks and crannies to ensure you are not overlooked, if that’s your preference. Site is very quiet apart from the rain and acorns from trees on roof of van, but that’s the country and the Lake District in October for you!! Lots of easy walks from site and nice pubs in comfortable walking distance. The on site takeaway pizza/fish & chip van was very good and welcome after a long walk. It’s a lovely site and we felt very safe with COVID restrictions implemented and adhered to.
First visit to a Club site
Just back from our first visit to a club site as new members. The site was perfect, upon arrival we was asked to go find a pitch which was nice as visiting other non club sites we have always been allocated a pitch and picking our own spot was really cool. All the pitches were spacious and felt really private and seculded in a woodland setting. The facilities were ace , toilets and showers spotless and show how dedicated the staff are at this site. Nothing was too much trouble to the hard working staff who helped tell us about the area and where we could go walking , cycling and find the nearest pub which is a short walk on paths right from the site. Eddie and Kath were very helpful with providing walking routes and telling us about the site and area , this is thier first season and if all staff are like them we are glad we have joined the club.
We did walks to Tarn Hows, The lower slopes of the Old Man and the full ascent of the Old Man a great hike that is, and can be done from the site starting with a walk along the old railway path into Coniston and picking up the route by the Sun Hotel. We cycled from the site around the lake which on the opposite side is on very quiet roads and nothing too hilly.
We really enjoyed our visit to Park Coppice and will return and if other club sites are like this one we look forward to visiting more.
Thanks again to all the friendly staff especially Eddie and Kath

Motorhome virgins
First time anywhere in our Motorhome. Surprised to be Told that we had restricted our choice by booking a non awning pitch. Nice surroundings, albeit a bit gloomy. We thought Center Parcs on wheels without the commerce. Finding a pitch was daunting for first timers.
Beautiful location. Easy walk to civilisation. Food facility on site for the less energetic. Facilities as expected.
A pleasant couple of nights in autumn
