Lovely peaceful stay

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at this site in our motorhome. The pitches are not regimented and many of them are tucked away under the trees which we really liked. The toilet blocks were spotless and well maintained with simple but effective Covid precautions in place. Other than on arrival we had no contact with the staff however, they were very helpful and friendly when we booked in. The roads to the site in both directions have several tight spots, we had our wing mirror whacked by an idiot driving too fast in a 4x4 however, most drivers were considerate and either reduced speed or stopped to allow wider vehicles to pass. We were blessed with lovely weather and enjoyed watching the wildlife on the site our Jack Russell was particularly interested in the numerous squirrels. This is a well maintained site in a beautiful location ideal for touring the lake District and enjoying a relaxing stay, we will definitely be returning.

Nice location but could do better

This is a nice location - 20 minute walk or 5 minute cycle to lake and then on to Coniston village in 25 minutes. Picking a pitch is a bit hit and miss - you get a map and told pick any pitch that is free and then come and tell us where you are. It would be better if the pitch availability were updated as people book in or if a member of staff came round with you. We marked our pitch with table, chairs and sun parasol when we went out but neighbours told us they chased off 6 people trying to set up on our pitch. We had no radio reception on sire - DAB or FM. A neighbour couldn't get all stations on their TV. Phone reception is only 3G and there is no free wi-fi on site - I thought all club sites had wi-fi. The pitches are all hard crushed rock with very little grass which means the overall impression is a bit 'car park in the woods' . Water connection was worn so that hose kept flying off when filling the tank - couldn't remove it as on too tight. Reported to office who said they had ordered more tap 'tips' - I suggested loosening those fitted so people could use their own but no joy. Apart from this the motorhome points were very good. There are other campsites in the area including a small certified site in Coniston closer to 'the action' such as it is which would be more suitable if you wanted to eat out at night or do more than just relax.

A great location to explore Coniston

This was our second visit to Coniston Park. It is a really lovely site that hasn't been over-manicured. The pitches are large and the staff helpful. Access to the lake is through the site and down a hill. We walked the Old Man of Coniston which was in easy reach and with fantastic views. We absolutely love this site and the on-site pizza and fish and chip van are a real bonus.

Surprised!!

We arrived at the site mid afternoon and checked in easily. The reception staff were great, polite helpful and happy. We proceeded to find a pitch near to the toilet facilities and was surprised at the size of the site. We found a pitch but the ground was not level. It took 2 more tries before we found one that was suitable. We did not realise how hilly the area was (our fault for not researching enough) but had a great 3 nights stay. A walk into Coniston Village is a must. We had a very nice lunch in The Black Bull where they brew their own beer. The village is like a picture postcard, very pretty but quite busy. We also had a boat trip which took us from the pier to almost level with the site gate as I couldn't walk the whole distance. I would recommend this site as long as you are fit and enjoy walking/trekking. Make sure you have suitable footwear.

Rainy lake visit

Bit of an ordeal getting here as main road to Coniston was closed , rang the site and spoke to a very helpful young lad who got his map out and gave us directions to come in a different way. It was very busy so had to go round a couple of times to get a pitch which was to the side of the road sharing with 2 other Van's and under trees , it was chucking it down which carnt be helped , i do like the sound of rain on the caravan roof but the rain from the trees made it really noisy on the caravan roof . Not actually on the lake but not to far to walk to it. Nice walk into coniston with the dog which took about 35 minutes . We walked to Tarn Hows which was lovely also. Pizza van on site which was lovely. Had a nice meal and drinks at The Wilson Arms about 15 minute walk away .

Helpful staff. Pitches disappointing compared to other parks as can be a few vehicles sharing a gravelled area to side of road, and weeds encroaching. Shower block pretty much same as other parks so decent. Not directly on lake front but not far to walk down. 40 mins walk to Boating centre and centre of Coniston. Wardens did not say you could cycle to Coniston on front but it is easy to do this, - wide enough for walkers and cyclists. £4 taxi to Coniston using ‘Alan’ , telephone numbers of firms available from reception. Food van comes quite a few nights, although pizza van sold out 1 hour before closing when we were ther so book ahead, option changes according to night, so could be fish n chips etc. Ambleside area better for cycling trails definitely.

MAIDEN VOYAGE

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was rather a learning curve for two seniors who are new to this but we would recommend this site. Next time we will be more confident. Definitely need to buy an aerial cable!! We walked into Coniston on a couple of occasions. It took about 40mins. So the Ship Inn was a good stopping off point(just over halfway) The site is well signed but the roads to it are quite narrow. No problem going but on leaving it took about half an hour to do one mile!! Rather hair raising at times--but just take your time. Lovely walk down to the Lake which the dog thoroughly enjoyed. The toilet block operated on a band system --a good idea providing people returned them ton the bucket on leaving!! -- cleaned regularly with plenty of hand sanitiser on site. Well done to the wardens. We will be back

First visit, but won’t be the last.

At last the planned first visit to Coniston, originally booked for May 2020 but obvs delayed until May 2021. We’ve been to the lakes many times, originally using Low Park Wood south of Kendal and then latterly Troutbeck near Keswick which has a hard to beat location for our group of keen walkers. Well Park Coppice has now entered the fray combining the lovely woodland setting of Kendal and the fabulous fell access of Keswick. Big site but doesn’t feel it with the pitch lay out and we enjoyed what is now a novelty of the more informal pitch layouts and sizes. But you def need to bring plenty of levelling assistance. Nice to be able to enjoy a couple of easy walks from the site as well as the more challenging Old Man. And as we also had a couple of kayaks and a water loving spaniel in tow, the access to the lake was also a real plus. Prob the least we have driven in a fortnights holiday, well other than the 300+ miles each way to get there! Shopping isn’t great, whilst we could’ve prob managed with the very small Co-Op in Coniston it was too far to walk lugging pints of milk, potatoes etc and parking in the village itself was a nightmare as well. So we drove to Ulvaston which at around 20 mins away was far easier. The approach roads are tight but manageable for all other than the really massive outlets as long as you are careful with good enough sight lines on most bends and dips. Helpful if you are lucky to not meet another outfit coming the other way. And even better, try and avoid leaving whilst there is a local cycle road race, def made for rather a challenging exit for both us and the cyclists on BH Sunday. But nonetheless, we’ll be back. Wardens as on most sites doing a fab job of keeping the facilities clean and tidy. Members, as on most sites, not doing so well with either their treatment of the said facilities and their lack of respect for the Covid measures put in place. It’s not difficult, so you have to assume that there are obvs many members who have been fortunate to escape the last 18 months unaffected by the pandemic. Pity they don’t consider everyone else but there we are.

Couple with a motorhome

We stayed at this site in the May bank holiday. I was not too keen on the layout of the site, it was very shady (I guess to be expected being a coppice) and hilly. It was made up of little clearing in the trees with pitches, but didnt seem to have the nice feel of open spaces like a lot of the Caravan & Motorhome club sites have. The facilities were fine, well kept and the wardens were very friendly. The TV reception was very poor, as another review mentioned, you should take an aerial lead. The walk into the village was pleasant, but due to COVID not a lot open. Enjoyed the lake and the scenery, but not so much the site.

Second stay at Coniston

We decided to revisit Coniston Park Coppice site a second time because of its great location and also because we wanted to book two Experience Freedom glamping pods for our son and daughter and their partners. We received a very warm welcome from the wardens who were very helpful in suggesting pitches which would be near to the glamping pods. There were quite a few available to choose from which was great. This is a very different site to the usual CAMC sites as there is very little grass, pitches are very individual and mostly surrounded by trees. It is all very in keeping with the beautiful setting by the lake, a few minutes walk away. It was very quiet and peaceful. Only the toilets were open but the facilities were very clean and people did seem to adhere to the Covid guidelines. We spend our time walking, completing the circular walk via Torver and Coniston and also a long walk around Rydal Water. It was too rough on the lake for the kayaking and paddle boarding that we had booked through Coniston Boating Centre but they were happy to change our booking for a motorboat instead. We also enjoyed a wild swim off Torver Jetty although it was very cold! A lovely few days away and we would return to the site. Our only gripe was that the people next to us did not park their caravan according the given instructions regarding lining up with the peg .The peg was situated in the middle of the back of their caravan with an awning one one side and a large SUV on the other which was very close to our pitch. We did not use our awning due to the weather but if we had it would have come right up to our neighbour's car. We did not like to complain but is something to be aware of as I am not sure that the wardens were checking for this.
