First, I must say that from the moment the toilet block became unusually due to a recent fire, the fact was well publicised on the website. Only an idiot could have missed the publication of the fact that the toilet block was unusable, and there are pitch fees to reflect the fact. So I would ignore the comments of the member who DID manage to miss it.
The site is mainly storage with some touring pitches, some of which appear to be long term. It is a lovely little site, tucked away, and useful for London, Leavesden (Harry Potter fans, please note) and nearby National Trust locations.
The wardens, as ever, we’re cheerful and helpful.
My only critique, and this is true of CC club sites in general is the internet service provision!
Caravan And Motorhome Club, seriously, you have to do better...much better. Every single site I’ve visited has had overpriced, and achingly slow connectivity. If you can’t speed up the connection, then at least stop charging us for it!
Suburban site with suburban problems
The site is a typical Caravan and Motorhome Club with all their usual standards, which are always impeccable.
The toilet block was out of action due to a fire. I am not sure how the fire started. I should have asked really. It was not a problem that the toilet block was closed, as we were informed about this by the wardens in advance.
There are a surprising amount of things to do in the vicinity so whatever your taste for leisure activities you will be able to find plenty to suit your personal tastes.
There are some woods which are great for walking dogs right by the site. I did notice some evidence of rough sleeper camps, although one could not see them from the main paths.
We arrived for the Spring Bank weekend. Next door to the site is a hospital and a cricket club. On the Sunday there must have been a party on at the cricket club, as there was loud music until late into the evening. It was really loud until 10.30pm and they must have shut some of the doors then, as it was quieter until the party finished at 11pm. Then everyone began to leave rather loudly, as they had all had a skin-full by then. Just before midnight there were fireworks from elsewhere in the town. Whilst the party at the cricket club annoyed me slightly I think if I had had young children with me I would have had stronger feelings.
Would I come back again? Probably, as there is a lot to discover here but possibly not a bank holiday weekend.
Disappointed
Having stayed at this site before we were very disappointed to find that there were no toilets, showers or washing facilities. We were told that this was because they had been damaged by a fire. There is no indication of this on the website, fortunately we are self contained but it would have been a disaster if we were not. Changes like this should be highlighted at the time of booking and an appropriate reduction in fees offered. In summary a good site spoilt by poor communication.
Trip to London
We used this site for a week as my wife was on a course in London. Commuting from Hatfield was easy. The 2 dogs enjoyed exploring the woods adjacent the site, although became very excited at the sighting of many foxes both in the woods, site and within the houses local to the site.
A good site and we will definitely return for either a stop over or a longer stay during our travels to France.
The facilities were both well maintained and spotless. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Pleasant surprise with easy access from Motorways
Very pleasant stay at site with easy access from motorways. Used as a an overnight stop from Kent to Lake District and very handy for A1M.
Site peaceful considering area, with exceptions of any celebrations from nearby cricket club. Those interested in retail therapy are satisfied with the Galleria shopping Centre nearby. Actually used site on the return journey at last minute due to road closures and accidents on M6 travelling south via a phone call to site en route.
Excellent Location
A very friendly and relaxing site and superbly located for trips into London. We have used this site before and would definitely use it again. Staff were welcoming on arrival and helpful throughout our stay. The site is well maintained and although the toilet and shower facilities are due a refurb, they were spotlessly clean. A very enjoyable stay for my husband and I with our two children - we felt relaxed, safe and comfortable at the site - looking forward to another visit in the future.
Overnight Stops
We have used this site twice in two weeks on trip too and from Brighton, on both occasions the wardens were friendly and helpful.
We only stayed one night on each occasion as a stop over, pitches are level and of a generous size, easy access from A1 if heading south it's like a countryside oasis once on site. Considering the proximity to the A1 we heard no road noise or any noise from near by hospital.
There is a nice pub/grill house about a 10 min walk from site (Coopers) lovely food and atmosphere if slightly pricey.
Would recommend as a great stopover can't comment on longer stays.
Thanks again to Wardens and the Club.
Weekend Away
wonderful little site very surprised about hearing not any road noise from the nearby main roads. spent the day watching cricket next door at Hatfield Cricket club with the added bonus of England's world cup game on in the afternoon lovely hospitality from the cricket culb made everybody welcome.
Nice compact site in good location
Very friendly wardens and a lovely clean site make this an ideal retreat for a long weekend. Many people we spoke to would be happy to stay longer and facilities were clean and tidy at all times. Excellent.
Enjoyable stay
A small, efficiently run site in a great location for visits to North London, Hertford and places like Hatfield House and Knebworth. Despite being in a busy area, it is quiet and peaceful. The wardens are helpful and friendly.
