We actually like this site and have stayed once before as it's close to home for a quick weekend away.
On arrival I was greeted with "How long are you", I said 8.5 and was obviously not believed. Then I said it was 8.5 when we visited last time. I was told they'd have to check they had a pitch and when I said that last time we were told to go where we wanted (and then let them know) that really didn't go down well and was told they'd have to have a word with the other people (no interest to me, their internal issues).
Later on the visit the parking Gestapo came round and this time I was advised to measure my van. BTW, my van is 8.3mt but we say 8.5 not to be pedantic, and length isn't everything.
Apart from that we had a nice stay and the music from the cricket club ended at 11.30 which was fine.
Will think twice next time if it is such an issue. OR change your acceptable length to 8.0mts, simples!
Better than our expectations
Having read the reviews we were wondering whether we should look for an alternative site. However as we had specifically chosen this site due to its proximity to the relatives we were catching up with for the first time in 18 months due to COVID restrictions, we decided to run with it. The site was clean and tidy and had a number of good hard standing pitches for us to chose from. The one we chose was great, hedges trimmed and ground level not even needing to use levelling blocks. Processes were clearly explained for and at check in. Facilities were clean but can only comment on the once we used them whilst topping up with water on arrival, as used our onboard facilities for the rest of the time. We had no problem with noise but we did stay Tues-Fri so this may have made a difference. Staff weren’t particularly engaging but this wouldn’t deter us from staying again. It would have been helpful to have had the QR code for NHS Covid app scattered around the site to allow daily logging and local information available in a safe way even though information hut was closed.
Disappointing
Wary of reviews but for different reasons found this site to be lacking in some respects. Unsupervised children playing in facility block near our pitch till late evening, during covid regs with parental control lacking. Unusual mix of good and poor quality pitches, ours was unkempt.
Not a site we'd use again.
Excellent
After reading latest reviews we wondered what we would find especially as we were staying on a Saturday night!
In fact the whole experience was excellent. On arrival the receptionist found out we were newbies and took the trouble to go through all the site and general club details. We were asked to drive round the site, pick a pitch and although we were non awning we could pick any pitch, and then report back with pitch number and to collect an entry/exit pass. We left the site to visit our son in London and returned about 11pm. All was quiet - no noisy discos! In fact we were surprised how quiet it was.
The facilities on site were spotless and the general condition of the site was very good.
We would not hesitate to visit again, its great for access to London - either 40 minutes drive or 30 minutes on a fast train to Kings Cross.
Dreadful service by staff both on and off site
We arrived on site and we’re given a map of places where we could pitch, we drove round the site twice to find none were available, lots of non awning pitches free and we had payed for an awning pitch so pulled in to one of them as we didn’t require the awning to be then told there was other awning pitches and we had to move!!, the following day we went out and arrived back late, on the morning I went over for a shower to find them padlocked and notices saying they were closed, I went to the office to ask when they would be open to be told to read the notice and they don’t know, they said they had been closed the day before.
I phoned the caravan club and asked why had they not been reopened if it was yesterday it was at this point I spoke to call centre staff their managers and area managers with them all contradicting each other this took a few days on the final call the area manager told me that they had been closed for 24hours as that is what had been decided at director level, I said this is punishing members for other members actions I also asked her to confirm what she had said as I believe other members would like to know this it was at this point she said she would put it righting and would not answer the questions
I could go on for ever how they told me one thing then the next person contradicted it or clearly what they said did not happen
My experience of this site question if I should continue to be a member
Change the wardens for a better experience
We arrived at the site and booked in which took some time. Pitch was spacious and the site very quiet. However that's where the good experience ended. The toilet block was ok but not what we have come to expect from the camping and motorhome club. Didnt see them being cleaned by the wardens. Mens toilet block was closed due to, well who knows what. We were told it was down to someone pulling the covid signs down, someone else told it was because someone left them in a mess, someone else told it was because people were not following the rules... we paid for the facilities and if these were going to be closed and penalise everyone else for someones ignorance then we could have gone to a cheaper site. I saw very little of the wardens during our stay and when we did see them they were rude and made us feel uncomfortable. I didn't see any children riding bikes, scooters etc as there was a sign stating this was not allowed. We only stayed 2 nights and have to say that was enough. I would only come back to this site if the wardens were changed for people who actually loved doing what they do and make people feel welcome during their stay. My husband called the club and was met with obstruction after obstruction. He asked for a callback from a manager to be told he was not within his right to speak to one and to put our complaint into an email. Still waiting for a reply.

Deadful
Unless you like excessively load "disco" music, do not stay here Saturday night. Cricket Club, next door play music which can be heard all over the site.
Apart from that, facilities are usual high CAMC standard. There are shops and buses nearby. There is good cycling. But, for me, none of that compensates for having several hours of boom boom boom music. We will not be back.
Quiet and clean site
This was the first time I'd stayed at Commons Wood and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the site was. I pitched backing onto woodland, which gave a degree of being in the middle of nowhere. The site is spotlessly clean (although I didn't use the showers etc.) and the wardens extremely welcoming and chatty. Look forward to returning.
Site in need of some TLC
Site is at this time year peaceful and relaxing. Wardens were very welcoming and helpful, and allowed us to move to pitch not under trees. Not many sites look at their best in Dec, however Commons Wood felt a little tired. The pitches were flat but a few were unkempt. There appeared to be quite a few units, both Caravans and MH’s, that we’re being used by long staying trade residents. The facilities were functional, but my wife on two occasions found toilets had been disrespected by a club member, and left in a filthy condition. As was seeing family, didn’t use any local transport or shops/ sightseeing. TV reception is poor and requires and external aerial cable, WiFi was good though. All in all am not sure I would return in a hurry
First Time on Site but will be back
Stayed from 24th Sept for 6 nights. Upon arrival we were met by the staff who were very welcoming and friendly. Allowed us to have a good look round the site and decide on the pitch we wanted.
The shower and toilet facilities were extremely clean and well maintained. Plenty service points around the site. Along with ground maintenance.
My only grip which is a difficult one to sort is that the hard stand pitches live up to their name with amount of ground pegs bent.
Would certainly return
