Commons Wood Stay March 2017

What a lovely site, great location and easy to get to just off the A1. We stopped for 2 nights, the wardens were very helpful, and lent me a mallet when I forgot mine. The only negative is that I wish club members who take dogs clean up their mess, our pitch had half a dozen deposits which we cleared.

Lovely site and helpful warden

Stayed here for three nights in March 17. The site is well laid out and was a joy to stay on. All areas were well kept and tidy. The motorhome drive over section and adjacent facilities was greatly appreciated by us newby Motorhomers. Only met one of the wardens but he was very nice and helpful. Hope to revisit soon.

Lovely quiet site, ideal for London.

We have stayed at this site several times as our son and his family live in Welwyn Garden City and always find it to be a very quiet site. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. The site is always immaculately kept and whilst the shower/toilet block may be a little dated the facilities are always spotlessly clean. This site is ideal for those wanting to visit London. Looking forward to our next visit.

First Visit

Access to buses serving St Albans, Hertford (both v worth visiting) Hemel Hempstead and others excellent. Ablution facilities generally good but some of the builders who live on the site during the week leave showers lined with sand which you have to clear up prior to use. A mop and bucket (disinfected) would be more helpful than the blade provided and drop down seats attached to the wall of the shower as at C&CC Canterbury site which we know would be a great improvement on the irritating stool! The information room was excellent re local amenities including post codes to enable fuel stations (Morrisons, Tesco etc to be located easily). Wardens delightful/helpful. Yes there was some noise from adjoining building works but nothing untoward. We will certainly be returning after this our first visit because our daughter and family are moving to St Albans next month. Overall, very pleased to have found this site.

Weekend Stay

Lovely weekend stay to visit our daughter at Uni. Friendly staff. Information room not very informative, did not have much info about local attractions. Some road noise but not disruptive. Nice small site in convenient location.

A superbly kept site

Although construction work is going on at the Hospital adjoining the site, this did not affect the enjoyment of our say and of the site. our enjoy enjoyment of the site. Despite the winter weather the site is immaculate and all the facilities are being maintained to a very high standard. The relief wardens were very friendly and most helpful and are doing an excellent job!

Ideal for London

The wardens were welcoming and very helpful. Clean and adequate facilities. The site is an ideal base for anyone wanting to visit London. Not much to do in Welwyn Garden City itself. Only downside to this site is that there is no play area to keep the kids occupied. Site is within easy reach from the A1. Will consider this site again in the future.

A great pre-Christmas break

Lovely wardens to greet us,mayo didn't appear to stop working during our stay.  Spotlessly clean shower block, fantastic woods that back on to the site which was great for our dog. Off to St. Albans tomorrow.  Would definitely return and can imagine it would be great for easy access into the city, though that want our plan, especially not with the Ronnie dog.

Brilliant site desperately needs updating.

We have been members of the Cravan Club for more that 40 years. and have stayed @ Commons Wood for the last 16+ yrs more that 3 or 4 times a year. The disabled facilities need an immediate upgrade. Lack of adequate heating, doors that do not fit and a poor supply of lukewarm water. What else can I say. The main shower block is not much better. Shower heads that are not adjustable and as soon as another one goes into use the warm water slows down. Update Now!!!!! and do not tell you the Club cannot afford it. The Management should come and try it. Worse still some of the club members do not leave the facilities as they would expect to find them. Hard working and helpfull wardens need a medal for sorting out blocked drains.

Better than expected

After reading previous review I was not looking forward to our stay, as only for one night on our way back from channel crossing we thought the location was ideal. After arriving we wished we had been staying longer. Ok showers block not as plush as some other sites but I've been in worse especially abroad. Wardens very friendly, polite and helpful as always. Good pitches with easy access for our large twin axle. Approach road a little narrow if you meet something large coming towards you but only a short distance from A1. Overall a good site and one we will use again.
