Great site for a visit to London

Great location. Five minute walk to the bus stop ten minute bus ride direct to the railway station in Hatfield twenty minutes and you are in London. Plenty to do in the area shopping in Welwyn Garden City site seeing in St Albans, the cathedral is well worth a visit.

Good for London

We stayed here for two nights to go for a day in London. The site was well kept, clean, with a warm showerblock and friendly helpful wardens. The adjoining building site was noisy but only during working hours, so it didn't spoil our visit. We went to the Grove for a meal like previous reviewers. It was cheap basic pub fayre, nothing to write home about, but good enough. I think we'll eat there again when we next visit. Going to London was very easy from the site. It was our first time and we went via Welwyn Garden City. That proved problematic because we took our dog and you can only get to the railway station through the shopping centre which doesn't allow dogs! We ended up after many enquiries having to carry the dog through the shopping centre to the station. Fortunately it is a miniature schnauzer, it may have been a different story with a larger dog. We will try going to London via Hatfield next time, which is just as convenient from the site. That aside, it was a very pleasant stay.

Half term break

Wardens friendly and helpful. Excellent cleanliness, showers are good. Excellent walking around the area. George V park good for dogs. Local shops within walking distance. The Grove a good local pub where you are made to feel welcome, with food at god prices for cheap and cheerful menu at value for money. God base fo tourning London and the area.

Lovely short break in a great location

Site is excellent - the only slight downside (which the booking form had alerted us to) was the demolition work going ahead on the QE2 hospital site - started at around 8:00am, even on the Saturday morning. Otherwise a great two night stay. Great location for London, shopping locally, golf and eating out.

Good base for Harry Potter World

We had chosen the site initially due to it's close proximity to HPW and London itself. A treat promised for our daughter. Stayed four nights. I'd describe the site as satisfactory and basic with good walks through the woods for the dog. The only downsides that comes to mind is the very poor shower water pressure - an easy fix? and no facilities for children. I have to say we never had much to do with the wardens although polite enough when we encountered them.

Short stay

No complains at all regarding the warden ,would have liked better showers ,and the shower rooms was full of little flys, but that could be with being near woods ,I was a little concerned with squirrels dropping acorns on the van roof ,so don't put your van under the trees around number 38 pitch area ,but for £20pn can't complain ,rant over

Ideal for a City stopover or one nighter

We used Commons Wood as an overnight stop on the way to Sandringham. We have both reached the stage where two hours driving, especially around the M25, gets tiring so it was an ideal place for us. No idea what Hubbyboo is on about re the Wardens. We stayed for one night on 12th September, the lady warden was polite, welcoming and had the job down pat. Her male partner, a Scottish chap was charming and explained everything to us. No problems at all. The site itself is on the small side, no evidence of being packed in at all, I suppose its a personal perception. If there is no where to take the kiddy winks the answer is to find somewhere else, make it an adult site so we all know from the start. The facilities are in need of a bit of tlc but obviously haven't reached the top of the redo pile as yet. The family next door had been into London and arrived back afterb 10pm. We never heard them or the many others who came back after the Proms in the Park stuff. Forest walk was excellent, gave to pooch plenty of room to wear herself out. Might be an idea to have some sort of map of the forest and the trails. One to return to for sure.

New Wardens wanted !!

What happened to nice wardens????? Seems they can't hang on to the good ones! As a storage user at this site we love it !! Even though it's a little over priced for the facilities I think these need updating ,I guess maybe you're paying for the location, I dont think it's particularly ideal for families with young children the vans are packed in and there's not really anywhere for them to play as such. The wardens this year seem to have an unfortunate way about them as I found out on arrival not welcoming at all ,maybe that's just their way but it's off putting, such a shame this site needs a good overhaul and to find the'right' wardens and hopefully soon!

Excellent

Wonderful site, well kept, grass & hard standing, easy to access (although a few road signs would be useful). Easy access to Welwyn Garden City, its shops, restaurants and theatre and most of its rail station. Less than 30 mins to central London and there are even late night trains. Harry Potter land is also close by! Book early, have a great time and save yourselves a fortune.
