A jewel in the Welsh hills

A return visit after 10 years, forgot how lovely this site was, why did we leave it so long? The site wardens were very friendly and helpful explaining the current restriction in force. The site facilities were closed but that didn't bother us. There is plenty of pleasant easy walks from the site either down to the waterfall at Rhaeadr Du or out towards Llyn Trawsfynydd and surrounding farm and woodland. Looking forward to returning again soon, a very peaceful site.

Great access to area

Even as a Motorhomer, bus stop 5 mins walk away gives access to all stops between Bangor and Aberystwyth including Porthmadog and the beautiful coastal path around the headland. Well laid out and tidy site and super pleasant Wardens. Downgraded only due to a couple of noisy families sitting out in a big group in the evenings whilst their kids raced each other on skateboards and bikes around every part of the campsite, setting off a barking frenzy amongst other peoples dogs. Not the site or Wardens fault, and was very peaceful otherwise; you are sadly always going to get some inconsiderate members who put themselves, their children or their dogs ahead of everyone else's peace and quiet.

Lovely Site

Stayed here once before, but many years ago, much better than we remember, only stayed 2 nights on way home from Scotland and the Lakes, as has been said the facilities were closed, but we have only been using our own shower and toilet, so not a problem, well laid out pitches, nice pub/restaurant directly opposite the site entrance, good dog walk.We will be back for a longer stay in 2021.

Well located site for visiting Snowdonia and the coast.

Visited in September. The facilities being closed due to the boiler failure (which we were advised about in advance) did not bother us as we were using our own caravan facilities due to Covid. Very pleasant wardens and a useful shop on site. Site not well maintained and grass areas needed cutting (probably left due to wet weather). Well situated site for visiting Snowdonia and the coast. Very quiet site with a nice dog walk (not secure) but a good drive to the nearest supermarkets / shops.

Nice site and lovely area

Our first family visit to Snowdonia did not disappoint. The route planner to the site was easy to follow on the whole and although some roads were narrow and challenging as you would expect from the area, the scenery was spectacular. The final approach to the site is along a narrow road with just one passing place in the entrance to the pub car park opposite to the site so do not arrive earlier than 13:00. The wardens were welcoming and clear on site instructions and although the shower block was not in use due to an issue with the boiler and the play area was closed for Covid19 reasons we found everything else on the site to a good standard. The weather was hot throughout our 8 night stay and despite a couple of storms which caused power cuts at the site for 15 minutes each time there were no issues. Although there are no shops close by, Porthmadog is a 10 mile drive but has all the choice of shops you need. Betws -Y-Coed is a lovely place too with lots of shops, particularly outdoor clothing and equipment and nice options to eat in or out and a wonderful waterfall to eat chips or a picnic by. Within a 30-40 minute drive there are lovey beaches at Pwllheli and Abersoch. Portmeirion is a wonderful place to see too especially wo walk through the forest up to the view point overlooking the estuary. We walked the Llanberis path up Snowdon on a very hot dry day and went on the Fforest Coaster at Zip World which is well worth considering booking as a thrill for children and adults alike. All in all would thoroughly recommend a stay at this location.

Great site bad weather

This is a lovely quiet site set amongst spectacular scenery and in close proximity to a number of interesting and scenic places. Unfortunately due to the covid situation many activities were operating limited places or were closed. Where places were operating prices were high. There is a lovely pub close to the entrance of the site but the requirement to book a table meant that during our stay it was fully booked. Perhaps we were unlucky with the weather but it rained most of the time and with high winds, in August.....which is why I normally go to France in the summer. One thing to be aware of is that there are many biting insects or midges about. I have traveled the world with my job, have caravanned and tented all over Europe and had the worst bites at this location. Maybe it was a freak occurrence but it did spoil things. Take your jungle formula with you. I bought some in Porthmadog but by then I was bitten to death just setting up. Overall though if you get good weather this would be a good site for the family. Lake Trawsfynydd is right next door and great to cycle round.

Excellent site

We arrived here on 1st August in a Motorhome with our friends who were also in a Motorhome for a 5 night stay. It stated very clearly on the website when we booked that the toilet facilities were closed and I also checked the day before travelling. On arrival the staff were so nice and friendly and during our stay they were so informative of guiding us on the surrounding area. We loved the place so much We managed to stay for a further 3 nights. We were there the same time as the previous review who complained about the children, there was probably about 5 cycling round and were very well behaved the play areas are closed which is not there fault and it’s their holiday so cycling round a campsite is what they should be doing instead of sitting in front of a tv and if you don’t like it I suggest you should book an adults only site in future. The site itself is well spaced out with lovely pitches and the pub on the entrance was lovely with the outside marquee so social distancing was good. We hope to visit again and hopefully see the same staff as they are a credit to the site. Thanks, Shelley, Keith, Colleen, Phil and dogs, Minnie & Toby

Lovely Location abit too busy for us

We arrived here last friday afternoon for 2 nights. On arrival we were told that the facilities were out of order. This was not made clear at the time of booking or before our arrival, luckily we have facilities in our motorhome but others that arrived were not so lucky, we should of been pre warned before driving 2 hours to get there. The site is in a lovely location with a short walk to a lovely pub, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately this is the first site we have stopped at where non members were welcome which we did not like, there was alot of children running around on the evening not being supervised by their parents. This has put us off from using sites that allow non members and unfortunately we would not re visit.

Great location. Wonderful wardens. Hidden Welch gem

We could not recommend this site any more, on arrival the wardens where extremely welcoming and helpful continually throughout our stay. I would say this is the most welcomed we have felt on arrival to a CMC site, they couldn’t do enough for us or our children. The site is small and well set out, very peaceful with lots of space around the pitches to relax/play. Only a short drive from the local village, there is a fantastic chip shop and local family butcher, or just 10 miles from site is Porthmadog harbour, perfect for crabbing with the children. The best thing about this site was that on the club entrance there is a local pub which also sells food, nice to just be able to pop over particularly when the weather is not in your favour. We’ll certainly be returning, the sooner the better!

Excellent return to touring.

Arrived on reopening day Monday 13th July with a little apprehension, but we were completely put at our ease by the friendly and warm welcome from the duty wardens. The site was in lovely condition and the floral displays were a credit to the hard work put in by the wardens. Even their little shop was really well set up, with contactless payment for even small items. When will we use cash again? Besides being an excellent site it is also a great base for visiting so many attractions in Snowdonia and the marvellous coastline. This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last.
