Visited this site recently and very much enjoyed the peace, quiet and general ambience. As ever, Wardens very friendly and helpful. Some very good scenery and good walking country right on your doorstep and even a pub ! As regards the site itself and the facilities very pleased with it all.
My only comment other than above is a word of caution - If you are thinking of cycling on the cycle route around the Trawsfynedd lake, you will need to know (especially if taking young children onto the route) that although described as a cycle route, it is in fact a mountain bike route, as designated by the Snowdonia Mountain Bike group. If you are thinking of tackling the whole route on a normal or hybrid cycle you do need to be very careful as some of the route is very rough with quite large lumps of aggregate rather than gravel coverings. That said, there are quite a few areas where you have less demanding terrain and even some metalled surfaces.
A very good site that we shall visit again !
We were a little concerned at some of the bad reviews we had seen for this site, but they seem to be totally unfounded! Access is tight and it is clear why the no arrivals before 1300 Hrs is rigidly applied. Those that choose to ignore it and then have problems only have themselves to blame. Overall the site is of a good standard, although with only one toilet/amenities block it can be a bit of a walk if you are on the lower levels, and whilst these are tired they are kept clean at all times. Overall the site is clean, well organised and there are plenty of service areas with water, bins and chemical disposal dotted around. A special mention to the staff who were all cheerful, polite, knowledgable and helpful at all times.
Approach road can be a bit tight with local residents parking but usually ok.
Warm welcome upon arrival.
We chose a grass pitch as it was near the facilities and exit. The site is quite large and those choosing the lower levels have a bit of a walk up to the loos etc. They also have to drive round the whole site to get to and from their pitch.
Wifi was intermittent as was general phone signal.
No barrier at the entrance but you had to enter a 6 digit code to enter the loo and shower block! Bit of a pain, but apparently due to non-members trying to use facilities from nearby site.
Facilities need updating but are kept as clean and fresh as is feasible.
Great location for Snowdonia, coast and castles with good road connections and quality roads.
Overall a very pleasant stay and wish we could have stayed longer in this beautiful area.
Although the weather during our stay wasn't kind & the entry road was a little tight I can't fault this site or the staff who run it, the toilet block & site itself is kept in immaculate condition, the staff were friendly & polite, I wouldn't have any issues with returning but hopefully next time the weather will be ok to climb mount Snowdon.
We really liked this site and as usual with club sites it is broken down int 'cul-de-sacs' which gives the impression of being small and cosy (It isn't a big site anyway). The welcome was great and a lovely piece of cake was offered.
The location was ideal for doing the little trains of Wales, Snowdonia, a really interesting tour of the slate mine/quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog and the incredible Zip World near Bethesda!
Highly recommend the Sunday carvery at the Bryn Arms -might not be how you normally get served but the food was hot and delicious!
Two small downsides:
Firstly - the shower curtains are actually too close to the shower and all the while you are showering you have to fight off a cold and wet shower curtain that insists on trying to cling onto you at every opportunity!
Secondly - the wardens are just a little bit too rigorous at implementing the rules - our dog had quite literally poked his head out of the awning door and we received a "get that dog on a lead", even though he wasn't outside!
We telephoned at 4.45pm after climbing Snowdon and managed to get a pitch for 2 nights, was hot & tired and just wanted a shower & to chill. We arrived at 6pm and just had to ring the bell and the warden came out and met us, very helpful and happy. The shower pressure is superb & lovely hot water (unlike a lot of Caravan & Motorhome sites who choose to give us lukewarm water). There are 3 showers in the main block & another 3 in the annexe. Both sets of wardens are very friendly & helpful. Kim gave us great tips for the beach and surrounding area, thank you.
The evening before we were due to leave we managed to get a cancellation for another 2 nights, which was great. We had 10 days touring Wales and weather was amazing (which made the trip even better).
We just wish this site was a bit closer to home in Somerset, but will definitely return. Many thanks
The site is well located, friendly wardens, and all facilities are spotless.
The only thing I found lacking is that there is no mention in the book that the Bryn Arms pub is so close to the site. I think this makes a difference when people are booking, to have a pub so close is a real bonus. It's also an excellent pub for food and drink.
Brilliant location for a family holiday, beaches, castles, mountains and lakes within easy reach. Also within walking distance of a pub.
Kudos to the wardens who go around picking up other people's dog mess keeping the site clean and tidy. Friendly and helpful too.
Stayed here in June and had excellent weather which always improves the experience.stayed for 4 days but could have done with a week.
Lovely flat spacious corner pitch with excellent views. Friendly wardens.
Facilities were the standard club style and always clean although the facilities in the annex were a bit musty. Good location for touring the Llyn peninsula and Snowdonia. Abersoch, Portmeirion and the West Highlands steam railway are all excellent.
We found this site to be very relaxed and not like some of the previous reviews we read. Good pulling up point at entrance near reception, friendly staff, very tidy and clean toilets and showers. Good easy walks close by, cycling routes just up the road. Lovely sausages and burgers for sale in the reception.
