Perfection in Snowdonia

We arrived in the area around 1230 so chose to stop by the lake for a cup of tea as arrival instructions ask you not to arrive before 1pm, the reason for this became evident there is a single track approach road and restricted space for parking on arrival.. The wardens greeted us warmly, we received the usual club instructions for pitching found a pitch and set up. The site is compact but beautifully kept the scenery is stunning, the toilet/shower block has a pin code for the door my wife found this a great comfort to be secure while using them. With reference to a previous review about people may struggle to use the lock ii have arthritis in my hands and didn't have any issue with the lock. The site in general is very quiet even though the main road is a stones throw away. The wardens are sociable, helpful, and will assist if needed. During our stay we had a power cut on site the wardens investigated the cause in informed all on site that it was an outside issue and should be back on as soon as possible. Snowdonia national park is a stunning area to visit with lots of traditional welsh villages and towns to visit there are lots of activities for all ages. We will be returning to this site in the future as we have enjoyed staying there so much this time.

JUST AS A FOOT NOTE PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF ARRIVAL TIMES DUE TO THE NARROW ACCESS ROAD AND RESTRICTED PARKING AT THE ENTRANCE AREA.

Excellent

A peaceful, clean site, friendly wardens and set in an idyllic location, we went to Snowden for the day it is a 50 minute drive away, we walked the Llanberis path to the top and we are in our sixties so many could do this. The reception on site has lots of maps and walk books we bought a couple and have explored the local area, an easy walk from site takes you to a waterfall and some were swimming in the cold clear water, another will take you to the big lake which has a tea shop, There is a Roman ruin we also walked to from site and another walk took us to a Dam. Harlech is a short drive away and has a massive sandy beach and dogs are allowed on loads of it, there is also a castle at Harlech. Porthmadog has a Tesco and Wilco for supplies. So filling two weeks here was easy, we will be back.

Excellent site!

We stayed here for only 3 nights, but we will return, again and again. A peaceful setting with wonderful views. Lovely walks, and cycling. And the friendliness and helpfulness of all the wardens was outstanding. Thank you all for making our brief stay so memorable.

Lovely break in Wales

We recently stayed at this site for a week. It was our first visit to Wales with the caravan. On reading some of the reviews we were initially apprehensive. We were greeted by a very friendly warden explaining we were an hour early and so directed us to a local lay by on the main road to wait. On our return we picked a nice spacious pitch in a quiet location. The site was very nicely kept and the site was a good location for touring around. The only criticism was the shower and toilet block was dated and in need of an upgrade but having said that it was very clean and we'll kept. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. We would recommend the slate mines at Festiniog for a visit. We booked the mountain experience which included the deep mine tour it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out. Nearest supermarket was at Portmadog with plenty of shops where you can travel on the steam train. Country side was picturesque and we will definitely return for another break to this site and to go up Snowdon and explore the area.

Shower and toilet block need attention

We arrived a little earlier than the 1pm arrival time and we were promptly and abruptly told we were not allowed to wait on site. We were not given any helpful information when we asked if there was a suitable lay by nearby for us to wait at. The staff seemed friendly enough after this but not overly helpful and seem to know very little about the local area. Our main gripe was the toilet and shower block. The Toilet block required a digit code with a heavy lock to turn - difficult for my children (aged 8, 10 and 12) to remember and manoeuvre and not great if you are desperate for the loo! They would be tricky for people with fine motor/ dexterity issues and for those with disorganisation issues trying to recall a number. The showers were badly designed with limited hanging space. A shower curtain meant everything got soaked in the designated drying area and the plastic stool allocated for your clothes was soaked. The showers were pretty rank and dated and generally difficult to keep clean. I'm not overly fussy, but the showering experience was awful and not what I would expect for the price you pay for caravan club. I opted to use the sink washing area afterwards but apart from 2, these had a shower curtain instead of a door. We ate at the conviently located Bryn Arms which was fine and good value. During our stay we visited the 'Zip world' attractions at Bethesda and Bettws y coed, and portmadog.

Lovely area, shame about the service

The site itself was lovely, and the facilities were generally well kept. Unfortunately while we were there, there were gangs of children marauding unsupervised around the site, going incredibly fast on bikes and nearly took both me and my dogs out on a number of occasions. The attitude of the female warden was ‘tough’! It’s up to the parents to deal with the children and not any responsibility of the wardens to make sure a safe site is maintained. I would not come here again while the warden is the current one. A shame really as the site and location are beautiful.

Lovely site

Stayed 6 nights in our Caravan in May. Lovely site with the advantage of an off site local club/pub/restaurant just outsite the site which was very welcoming. Only niggle is there was no sign on the main road indicating that the site was down the road. As it was a narrow road we were not sure so travelled pass, in each direction, a couple of times!!!! Apart from that absolutely lovely.

Short stay

Having stayed in South Wales for a week we decided to travel up through Wales on route home & stay here for a couple of nights to break up the journey. We stayed here a few years ago & the place hasn’t altered a bit. A nice tidy site with lovely wardens who even offered us some Welsh fruit cake on arrival. My only gripe is the signage coming up to it off the main road. There is none! Not until you turn off anyway. I missed it coming down the hill & had to do a dodgy u turn about half a mile further down the hill & boy do they motor down it. No TV signal on my pitch 59 . I think the higher you are on the site the better the chance you have of getting one. No such issues with mobile or internet though. Would recommend if using as a base for mountain hiking, beaches, plane spotting.

Excellent base to explore Snowdonia

We stayed here for two nights recently,.. our first experience of The Caravan and Motorhome sites. We had a lovely welcome from the wardens who were very helpful. The site facilities were absolutely spotless with lovely warm showers . We did use the pub once as other half hadn’t packed the spanner for our spare gas bottle and we ran out! The food was typical bar food but was good, fresh and hot and the barman was very welcoming. The site is very easy to get to and pretty central for sightseeing, We visited Portmeirion and Beddgelert during our stay. Unfortunately we didn’t do Llanberis this time as the weather was pretty awful. We would definitely recommend this site and will revisit in the summer.

Snowdonia Gateway

Stayed for just over a week towards the end of March. Dog walk area is a lovely secluded little haven to let them off the lead.Clean and exceptional facilities, lovely staff and even overstayed our departure by an hour due to a 7 month baby and no perceived pressure to leave at 11:00 from the staff. Would highly recommend the 'river' walk from Beddgelert heading south. Stunning scenery, dog friendly if not baby friendly for the timid but well worth the effort. Didn't try the pub over the road. Avoid approaching on the B4391 from Llangynog. I was fine but the wife wasn't.
