Two weeks enjoying North Wales

We enjoyed our two week stay in August exploring Snowdonia, Porthmadog, Harlech, Barmouth and the Llyn Peninsula. Access to the site is via a residential road with cars parked outside properties on one side, which reduces the available width to a single carriageway. No arrivals before 1300hrs is rigidly applied due to the access and to reduce the risk of encountering caravans which are leaving as you are approaching. As others have noted, those that choose to ignore it and then have problems only have themselves to blame, particularly when there are plenty of large lay-bys on the main road approaching the site. Overall the site is clean, well organised and there are plenty of service areas with water, bins, recycling and chemical disposal. There is only one toilet/amenities block, but it is split into two parts, which means one part is normally available when cleaning takes place. A special mention to the staff who were all cheerful, polite and helpful. We chose a hard standing pitch around a cul-de-sac loop with a great view of the mountains. There are plenty of walks available directly from the site, including towards and around Trawsfynedd lake, partially along shared cycle network routes with gravel/slate chipped surfaces. When we were visiting the weather was a mixed bag of wet and windy, interspersed with sunny periods. We found if you headed west to the coast and the Llyn Peninsula you actually found the drier, brighter and in some cases sunnier weather. We looked at the weather forecast and often found travelling a few miles provided nicer days out than getting soaking wet!

Outstanding

Stopped here 1at Oct for two nights, clean and the wardens are fantastically helpful and friendly. Quiet and clean. Tv signal not too good but you don't go away to watch tv. Would recommend this site to everyone. Less than 5 mins walk from the site is an amazing pub, Bryn arms, food is fantastic and the customer service is just outstading.

Great Site

6 nights at this site - great location, very central for Snowdonia attractions. Wardens fabulous. Warm & friendly welcome. They work very hard & are always smiley & chatty when you encounter them on site. They are a credit to the club. Great playground & games field (even though it's on a slope) Tesco in Porthmadog, 15 mins drive. Barmouth 30 mins drive - great afternoon spent there! Beautiful day at Portmeirion (15 min drive). Definitely worth visiting if you haven't been. Took a picnic with us keep the cost down & booked online to get a discount. Ffestiniog railway was fantastic. Took advantage of the early bird offer & paid £43 for 2 adults & 1 child. Visited 'Bounce Below' (15 min drive) - our 9 year old loved it...we were shattered...a good 'workout'! Expensive though...£25 per adult & £20 per child - if you go, leave plenty of time to book in - we booked online but you still have to queue to book in & sign waiver forms & the queues do not move quickly! Allow 30 mins booking in time. Beddgelert is very pretty. Pub opposite the site is handy. We didn't eat there but drinks reasonably priced. Beautiful part of Wales. Stunning scenery & plenty to do to suit all ages. We are booking again for next year. Enjoyed it so much.

Fabulous break

Stayed here last year, and although the weather was once again dismal at times, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Their is plenty to do, cycling, walking, or just relaxing, with the kids. The wardens are lovely, and to be fair, they don't bother you like other wardens where they take their job too seriously. It's so relaxed, and if you keep to the rules then you will thoroughly enjoy this site. The drive to the site isn't a problem, it just needs people that do come here to have extra time and patience as this is Wales after all, and you cant have lovely scenery like you get here without the challenge of the roads. Common sense on the approach into the site really, which isn't a problem, plenty wide enough, and if you do arrive too early their is an abundance of very large lay bys. The only issue I have, which isn't to do with the wardens is, why cant people clean their dog mess up. I have 4 Jack Russell's and plenty of poo bags. It's not fair for others to clean up after them. Anyway, when we do leave :-( we will be certainly returning. Already booked for October and next year. Just a shame it's not open over winter or has season pitches. I'd be here allot more. WARDENS, YOU DO A GRAND JOB AND THANK YOU X

Good site in a great location

The site offers you the possibility of exciting visits into the centre of Snowdonia or the more gentle slopes around Porthmadog, Harlech and the Lleyn peninsula. When we were there the weather had its moments of being very windy and wet, but if you headed west to the coast and the peninsula you actually found sun and dry. A few miles travelling can help you find good weather here. Use the weather forecast to plan your activities! The site is what you would expect from the club - good facilities well kept and with friendly staff and visitors. The access road is an issue due to parked cars on a narrow residential road made worse when we were there due to roadworks. If concerned about this - ring ahead to the site for advice.....but don't let this put you off going. It's a great place and well worth visiting!

Good points but could be better

This site is in a lovely location with some great walks. It's also very convenient to have a pub across the road, and the site itself is very well maintained and nicely laid out. As others have noted, however, the shower facilities aren't the best; we stayed at two other sites in fantastic locations in the Snowdonia area and both had vastly better, modern facilities. Given the difference, it would not be a fair comparison to rate this site at the same level, hence the reduced rating. Also, I agree with the concerns of others about the 1 pm arrival time. When travelling long distances to north-west Wales, it is hard to get the timings exactly right, and I do think a little more consideration for road-weary travellers would be appreciated. That aside, we met some very helpful members of staff.

Lovely quiet site

Just had 15 nights at this site. Many thanks to the wardens as we stayed another night owing to the gale force winds. Lovely site set over smaller sections, good dog walk on site, well kept large play area. Friendly helpful wardens. Followed the instructions for route from the club book and no problems.

Good base site

When you turn into this site we nearly missed the turn, small green sign on the run down bungalow blink you would miss as we nearly did. Why can’t Caravan get some decent sizeable signs up I’m sure that would be easier than trying to turn round with a caravan on the back of your car. Friendly staff greet you well kept site excellent cleanliness. Husband found great walks with our dogs but if your in a wheelchair/ scooter this site isn’t for you. All the paths my husband found was not suitable due having slate down.

retired couple in school holidays time with no 'kids' (grown up and gone)

Beautifully maintained site ,great staff, 'despite' children very quiet and nice to see them cycling/playing around site (we normally avoid busy periods but fine at this site). Facilities not under stress despite full site, showers excellent, pub outside entrance, snowdonia all around, with easy access to every part. Will be back in near future.

Great location

We stayed here for two nights. The first night we went to the local pub, The Bryn Arms for dinner, only a few minutes walk from the site, food was excellent. The next day we caught the bus from the end of the road to Porthmadog & couldn’t believe it was free to travel on Saturdays & Sundays! We went on the steam train from there to Blaenau Ffestiniog - an amazing trip would definitely recommend.
