Lovely Site And Location But Let Down By Warden

The site is very nice and perfectly located for walking and cycling, unfortunately it is let down as mentioned many times already on reviews around the Internet by the unfriendly, unprofessional and argumentative male warden. Which us a shame as without him it would be a great site to visit regularly

Loved this site before AND still after the refurb!

We stay at Clumber regularly as it’s only a short journey from home and so is great for weekends away with the kids. This review comes after our first visit following the recent upgrade and refurbishment. We stayed on a new serviced pitch (which is a new thing for Clumber as serviced pitches weren’t installed previously). The site is a good size with plenty of space between pitches, great facilities - the new shower facilities etc are very modern and spotlessly clean. The site has only been open for a few weeks but is already back to being as busy as it was pre-upgrade. The wardens are super friendly and helpful. They are always around on site and stop for a chat or to say hello. Checking in is as always very efficient and we were greeted with a friendly welcome back. The new play area was a hit with the kids, as was the greatly improved bike store. It was much easier to put bikes away safely overnight and we didn’t need to worry about overcrowding. Great to see significant improvements and investment in the site by the Caravan and Motorhome club.

We have our own YouTube channel and made a short video during our stay:

Site and the club urgently needed to improve customer experience and the grounds keeping.

Our first trip to the site since the refurbishment. The new facilities are fine, although why the site was closed for so long to do them is not clear. The site has been open for 3 weeks now and the grounds look completely unkept. Poor welcome by staff. After selecting a pitch and returning for the barrier key, we had to listen to the staff complaining about their customers (us). A potential new member was in the queue before us and was interested in joining and looking for advice. Staff simply directed them to the website for any information about the site and club benefits. Staff could not be bothered to spend time with them, giving advice or guidance. This has late afternoon mid week and there was only ourselves waiting to be served. Suggest customer service training urgently undertaken by the club. Walking around the site (which wasn’t full) there were weeds on all pitches. Apart from the new toilets and park, the site was unkept. The road to the site and tarmac areas within the site have not been touched. Why would you close the site for 1 yr and not sort the drive and tarmac areas of the site. (not good enough club… first impresssions ! ) If the reviews allows photos, I will include. New security locks for the toilets on the larger outer doors are very difficult to use (code and turn the locks). The club got it ok on the internal toilet door with a code lock only but why have a different type on the other entry door. The same locks (2 handed to open) are of the outer gates of the site and give you access to clumber park. Again returning though these gates is very difficult and I watched families struggling several times to gain access. Anyone who struggles with their hands to open jars and glass bottles etc will understand what I mean. You also have to use both hands to gain access, which will mean anyone without the use of both will struggle. The location is great for walks and cycling, and kids will love the new park. I feel the club and site need to sort the points above and quickly fix the poor customer service and experience that other on this forum/reviews have already noted.

Like a refugee camp when busy

The facilities having recently been refurbished are great and the site is clean and tidy. The problem is that there is no separation between the pitches and they are crammed in. If you want a noisy busy site with groups sitting around drinking then this is the site for you, if you want privacy and piece and quiet then don’t go at weekends and during school holidays.

Lovely site in beautiful location with plenty of walks from the site

When I joined the club, this was the site I most wanted to stay at. We visit Clumber Park frequently for walks and the idea of staying for a few days was the main reason we joined. I was disappointed to find it had just closed for renovations. It has now reopened and I have just had my first midweek break there. It was every bit as good as I'd hoped for. The new facility blocks are fab - spotlessly clean and well laid out! I'm a wheelchair user with assistance dog and we had plenty of space for her to help me with showering and dressing, without her getting wet too. The only slight niggle is that the new separate toilet was out of order throughout my stay. I was expecting to have to take the van down to the visitor centre to access walks but was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of walks directly from the site. You can walk down through Hardwick Village to the lake and then all the way round, via the visitor centre, and other National Trust attractions. We also quite liked the walk behind the campsite, through King Charles's Breck. This was a good place to let my dog off lead. We also picked brambles as we went. The pizza van comes twice a week (Wed/Sat), so we had pizza one evening for dinner. That was a lovely surprise. There is also a chippy van on Fridays. Staff onsite were really friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back again and I expect this site to become a regular weekend haunt.

Wonderful friendly site

I am new to caravaning and stayed at this site over two consecutive weekends on one of my first outings . The welcome and help I received on arrival was first class despite the arrivals area being very busy. The site is beautiful , in a great location for walking and cycling and with fantastic new amenity blocks and some great level pitches. Yes there was some noise from barking dogs but that didn’t detract from my stay. I read a previous review about rude wardens but couldn’t disagree more, for me they were very welcoming, kind and understanding of my inexperience. I would highly recommend this site and will certainly be back again in the near future.

Amazingly friendly and helpful Wardens

Just read TonySam1 review disrespecting the Wardens. My experience today was the total opposite, they could not have been more welcoming, more helpful, and more accommodating when I asked to change pitch type on one of the busiest weekends of the year. They went out of their way and that extra mile to ensure my needs were met in order that I may enjoy my stay. The new toilet blocks have been long overdue yet well worth the wait, finished to a very high standard with a fresh and modern look. Looking forward to lots of long walks in a fantastic peaceful setting. I will remain a regular here.

No Friendly Staff

Hi all, just want to point out a couple of things from my experience over the weekend staying at Clumber park, The the park is great don’t get me wrong and the new facilities are great, but from arriving on site the staff were terrible, the attitude towards customers was shocking and on arrival I was demanded to stay in my car and further ordered to get my payment and membership card out as quickly as possible so I’m not “holding anyone up”. The way the staff spoke to you felt as if you were back at school, like I was being looked upon which was appalling. Not only this, but staff would also frequently pace across the site reviewing and inspecting everyone’s caravans / motorhomes whilst questioning customers about certain details of their caravan We brought our car into the site to empty it into caravan as it had all of the fridge stuff in The warden walked past & said what’s this car doing here ? We explained that we were just unloading the fridge stuff to which she replied ok but don’t be long as need it moving, Then 5 mins later said it’s still here !!! Pointing at the car as we were still unloading , She then turned around and said & can you put your dog on a lead as I think I’ve just felt it brush past my leg he was no where near her she was 25-30 feet away & the dog was in the awning !! I’ve been on the site before loads of times & never ever experienced the kind of attitude towards me like I’m not welcome, Also was walking back from shower block and asked warden where do I put the dog bags & was talked down to, We felt very unwelcome & it was the way in which the staff spoke to us Customers should be welcomed onto the site not bossed about, I can understand it if we were a family that was loud & played music until all hours & had stuff everywhere & made the site look untidy ,we was there to explore the tracks for bike riding and walking my dog & then onto go ape the day after Also we could check off for 12 but the toilets were being cleaned from 11.30 - 12-15 but closed at 11.15 am so we couldn’t use the toilet before our journey home If the toilets were cleaned after 12 this would allow customers to use them before their journey home all in all its out me right off going back. Also the refurbished site they could of included better wifi and a phone signal point as there’s no phone signal what do ever on site.

Lovely site

We have used this site many times over the years and we’re looking forward to seeing the new refurbishments. The newly built facilities blocks are excellent. The play areas are good for over fives however I was dismayed to find that there is no equipment for under fives, this is a site used by families with children of all age ranges and as such needs relevant equipment. Also there is no seating for parents to use whilst supervising their children, there was a bench in the old area. It is a lovely site set within beautiful National Trust parkland with miles of cycle tracks and the site itself has extensive bike lockup facilities.
