Our 2nd stay at Clumber and again, an excellent experience. Whilst it’s completely out of the way, it’s pretty easy to get to.
The site is immaculate. There is plenty of space between pitches and whilst it was 3 parts full, it never felt cramped.
The facilities, i believe, are fairly new….and very well thought out. No need to completely shut them whilst cleaning which is excellent. The showers were hot and all spotless. Credit to the designers and of course the site staff (who were very friendly) for the maintenance.
Nearby, there are plenty of walks. A large lake is easily accessible with a wide flat path around it, and a little coffee stop to take a break if needed.
There is no phone signal at the site (at least not for us on EE) which is actually nice.
Overall, an extremely peaceful place and we will go back at some point
Great Staff Great Site
Thank you to all the staff, for making our stay lovely. Amenities, the site in general, everything spotless
Busy at Weekends
We used the Clumber Park site as a final stopping place on our trip before heading for home. Since our last visit the site has undergone a major refurbishment with lots of extra features added and new toilet blocks. Can't fault the quality of the site. I think our mistake was using it over the weekend which was very manic and not very relaxing. As we like to be near the facilities we pitched opposite one of the toilet blocks, big mistake! Had people walking through our pitch all weekend as well as thousands of children, ok probably dozens, riding bikes and running between pitches. I can only blame myself although it would be nice if the adults used some discretion by walking a few extra yards around the road? Another major issue on this site is the general lack of good WiFi and the lack of a phone signal on most networks. I appreciate the Club is renewing the WiFi infrastructure on all sites but this does seem to be slow going? They do supply a hotspot but I think this gets a bit overwhelmed by the numbers using it. I appreciate that there is probably little the Club can do about the phone signal although I would hope they would be lobbying both the National Trust and phone companies to improve this situation. My view is the current situation is quite dangerous if there was an emergency. To end on a more positive not the Pizza's sold by the mobile food vendor on the Saturday were very good and reasonably priced.
What a fantastic site
Had a long weekend at Clumber Park, first time we have stayed here, what a super site it is.
Was very busy when we arrived on Friday at 13:15, the warden said they had 90 arrivals due, 25 had already gone in, that’s pretty fast turn around in 15 mins (think people are ignoring the 1pm arrival time).
We think this site is as good as Chatsworth, it’s just so peaceful with lovely woodland all around,
Great walks from site, didn’t use the car at all.
Toilet/shower block is fantastic, big roomy showers.
The site was almost full, but quite a lot left on Sunday but there was still quite a lot of units on site.
There was a super large RV the size of a coach, we have been unfortunate to be next to one of these before at Incleboro Fields, it blocked our evening sun, but here it was on one of the new super pitches, so wouldn’t have bothered anyone.
We will definitely be returning to this wonderful site, the new booking system means it is much easier to book a weekend stay.
Peaceful
We have been staying on this site for many years pre and post update.
The updates have made such a difference, especially the serviced pitches, less messing having to fill water and empty waste, makes the weekend more relaxing
The wardens are helpful, friendly and the new check in is alot better, especially at busy times.
The WIFI situation isn't great as there is no phone reception once you drive off the main road however we found is was great as we could properly switch off.
Price has increased which can be understood with the upgrade, finding all club sites have increased by a lot.
We will continue to come to this site as we love it but it will be less often, we are also looking at independent sites.
Lovely site
Will be staying again (already booked), and taking my grandson, after my recent visit. Facilities all clean and kept up to a good standard, plenty of walks to undertake. Would recommend this site, also good for dogs. The walk around the lake, and the surrounding woods kept you on the go
First class
This was our first time here and we’ll definitely be back. The fully serviced pitch we were on and the facilities on site were excellent. The toilet block we used nearest to our pitch was kept very clean throughout. We arrived on Thursday to a very warm welcome from the reception staff and were given all appropriate information about the site and surrounding area. It was very quiet when we arrived for our week stay but became extremely busy for the King's coronation week-end ( over 100 new arrivals) and then quiet again for our last few days. The staff seemed to cope admirably with the large week-end influx and nothing affected our enjoyment of the site. We had our e-bikes with us and as National Trust members we couldn’t have asked for a better area for bike riding, than Clumber Park. The bike storage facility also allowed us to lock up our bikes safely and give us great peace of mind throughout our stay. We would highly recommend a visit to this NT property. Apart from bike riding around Clumber Park we did not venture too far but did manage visits to Workshop street market, Retford, Ollerton, and Sherwood Forest all of which we enjoyed. The weather was very changeable with rain off and on throughout but this did not have a detrimental affect on our stay.
Good but..
Our first visit since the refurbishment. The wardens are great and hard working. Food vans good. We paid extra for one of the new premium pitches - slightly larger pitch and a picnic bench which was handy. But it was advertised as having a privacy hedge - this is a joke as it has only recently been planted so you basically have 6 or 7 twigs on each side of the pitch which afford no privacy whatsoever. The Club needs to make this clear or drop the reference to privacy hedges until they are more established - probably 5 years' time.
Great idea re only closing half of the toilet blocks whilst cleaning - such a simple idea! It needs notices to that effect on the 2 doors though.
Finally, the Wi-Fi - very poor planning by the Club to drop the previous contract and not have the new Wi-Fi already lined up. This is especially so at this site which has no 4G coverage whatsoever or phone signal. It does have a hotspot near to reception which is good but hardly convenient.
Overall good site and great wardens.
Great improvements
Love the new facilities and still a fab site. Love the peace, walking, friendly staff and food vans. Will be better when the Wi-Fi is sorted but we were made aware before we arrived so no real issues
PEACEFUL WEEKEND
We have been staying at this site for more than 25 years and have seen lots of chsnges and improvements.
There are different pitch types to suit everyone, and there are plenty of things to do.
The Wardens were welcoming as usual, and are always visible if you need help or have questions.
The refurbishment and changes to the shower blocks look great, but I wonder whether the designer has actually used these showers. For myself at 5'2" tall, the fixed shower head is useless - It is fixed at around 8' high and has a very wide spray. At my height, the water sprays everywhere except on my head! This is the case on other sites as well.
We were also surprised to find that there were only 2 ladies showers available in each shower block, on a site more than half full, at the start of the Easter holidays and we had to queue each morning - 40 minutes on Saturday! The notice said it was to save energy, but the heating and lights seemed to be on in the closed section.
Another great weekend, and we will be back but please consider more height adjustable showers across all sites.
