We have been here a couple of times in the last few weeks and can honestly say the location of the site is perfect and the the staff are great. You have access through a coded gate onto the Clumber estate and the walks are amazing with hardly seeing anyone which was great as we were training our new puppy.
If I could change just one thing it would be the booking in process and this is where Chatsworth has it right. At Clumber you have to question to check in which can take a while when busy where as at Chatsworth they check your name at your vehicle give you a map and off you go. Once you have your pitch you then go to reception and finish checking in and getting your key/fob which helps. This means no que plus whilst the pitch is being set up the other partner goes to check in 👍
But anyway the site is a must and we will be going back many more times. The walk to the community run pub in Hardwick village is lovely but they are only open Friday Saturday and Sunday for 3 hours.
Tranquility in the middle of the forest
Our first visit to the refurbished Clumber Park and what a fantastic facility it is for club members. We were welcomed by friendly staff who always had time for a brief chat as they went about their daily tasks to keep the site facilities in pristine condition.
We had four nights at the end of February so our expectations on weather weren't great but even though there were lots of showers we somehow got out and about and managed to avoid most of them. Nearby Clumber Park is about 2 miles from the site with loads of unspoilt parkland and woods. Remember this is a National Trust Property so unless you're a member you will have to pay their admission charges. However there is direct access to the forest from the site with no charges and there are miles of forest tracks to explore either on foot or bike. Other than the Clumber Park estate we visited the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre about 8 miles from the site which has a lot of history surrounding the adventures of the mythical 'Robin Hood' and it also has miles of woodland trails to explore with a nice cafe when you finish. No entrance fee but £5.00 to park your car.
The new facilities are magnificent and with the added bonus that only one half of them are closed at a time for cleaning meaning there is always access to the toilet.
Worksop is about 5 miles away with all the main shops and facilities if you feel the need to visit them. We shall be certainly return being less than 3 hours from home. Our only issue was we arrived at about 12:45 and there was no access to the site before 1 o'clock so I had to complete a three point turn with the caravan. Fortunately there was plenty of space to manage this manoeuvre. Note to myself - REMEMBER DON'T ARRIVE BEFORE 1 o'clock
Friendly welcoming site, great facilities
First time stay at Clumber Park over Christmas 2022. Quiet, pleasant stay. Solo camper but everyone friendly. Wildlife fun to watch from window. Good dog-friendly location with plenty of walking opportunities straight from site. New shower block very clean and warm. Great laundry facilities. Useful calor gas and grocery essentials available in site store. Thanks to wardens for friendly, helpful support. Very happy with experience. Will return later in the year.
No working EV points.
We stayed for a week in November in our Motor home, also taking our Electric car. The site clearly stated newly installed EV charging points were available.
On arrival I asked when the EV points would be in use as they had Out of Order notices stuck on each one,
I was told they didn't work and had never worked from day one. She also said they (the wardens) kne w they wouldn't work as there was no phone signal on the site. She thought a new cable was going to be installed sometime to see if that helped. I pointed out it didn't help me that week and surely something should be added to the site details about these things?
This gave me two shocks in one conversation as we were not aware of the lack of any phone signal either. We had to pay £11 each for Wi-Fi as my mother was in hospital and I needed to be contactable at all times.
The site itself was lovely, tidy, and all the wardens were extremely friendly.
I do, however, wonder how they can justify the high site fees.
Great site and facilities
We stayed on the Clumber Park site for 4 nights with our motorhome the first weekend in December 2022. Our serviced pitched was excellent. The staff were helpful and the new facilities block was outstanding. We were joined by family members with their mortorhomes over the weekend and the walk around the lake was enjoyed by all. We will return!
My favourite site
Visited twice since the refurb and brilliant what has been done here.
As many have mentioned the new facilities are great and the fact they are always open and kept spotlessly clean is really good and a testament to the hard work of the wardens.
There have been a few negative comments regarding wardens in other reviews and all I can say is they must have met different wardens to the ones we have seen on recent trips and over the past few years so not quite sure about that.
All I would say, it is a great site that I would recommend and we have further visits already booked!
Lovely Stay at Clumber Park
Excellent site, very nice up to date facilities blocks akin to many newer commercial sites. All facilities spotless. Lovely setting in the woods with nice open and spacious pitches. No phone signal but excellent WiFi. Excellent play area for Children. Very impressed with site. All extremely well maintained. Nice helpful and cheerful wardens. Convinient location with Clumber Park NT literally on the doorstep and short drive to Sherwood Pines. Not too far a drive to the historic City of Lincoln.
First visit since reopening
This was our first visit since it reopened. A lot more serviced pitches available. New toilet block was very clean and the ability to split it into two halves to clean was great as it meant facilities were always available. Locked gates were a reassuring addition. The only negative was the wifi. It is claimed that it is silver, but regularly was unavailable. Would be looking at a site and then the WiFi would just disconnect. Regularly did not even see the WiFi as an option when looking on our phone. I realise some people may not want WiFi, but if it is offered as an option it should work. As the site does not have any phone reception, I would think that good WiFi would be a must for some.
A First-Ever Campervan overnight stay
I took the plunge and booked an overnight (18th-19th October) stay in my lovely, newly acquired 1993 T4 at the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Clumber Park not far off the A1 - a good halfway point between my home and that of my parents in North Yorkshire… It was a terrific choice for my first-ever campervan experience.
The camp is very secure (I’m a lone female traveller most of the time so this is an important confidence booster) and set in gorgeous parkland near a National Trust property. The staff were SO helpful - assisting me with a series of ‘first-evers’: electric hook up, forgetting matches to light my cooker-rings (rookie error, I know!). I’m afraid I forgot to ask their names but I will be ever grateful!
Recently refurbished, the loos and shower-block facilities are absolutely lovely and although I didn’t use it, there’s a laundry-room too. There’s a children’s play area but I resisted the temptation to try the swings… next time maybe!
I had a cosy first night after a pre-dinner walk in the parkland and felt very welcomed, secure and comfortable. I will certainly be visiting the Clumber Park site again but will try next time to make sure my stay coincides with one of the weekly visits of the fish and chip or pizza van! Next time, I’ll try and remember to take some photographs.
Thankyou to the staff for helping me kick off my campervan adventures so brilliantly! I heartily recommend the site to the Club Community.
Excellent site
We were a bit concerned about visiting this site after reading some of the recent reviews, but after visiting it I don’t really understand what some folks were on about.
The site is really well maintained, the new shower and toilet blocks are probably the best we have seen. John, the warden was very helpful and polite.
The site is very close to a National Trust property which is brilliant for walkers and cyclists and also there are key coded gates from the site straight in to the woods surrounding the site.
Definitely recommend the site.
