Lovely site, shame about some customers

We have just returned from a 14 night stay on this site. The site itself is very well situated and well looked after. The site managers work hard to keep the facilities clean and covid safe. However some of the customers were either ignorant or arrogant about the simple covid system put in place to regulate the capacity of the toilet blocks. A simple band system was in place. Put a band on a hook when you go in and take it off again when you come out. If the hooks are full of bands then the block is at capacity. Simple right ? Apparently not, almost every visit we saw people entering or leaving without hanging up a band (on one occasion we saw someone take a band and put it on their wrist before going in !) many people failed to wear face coverings and children were running in and out and around the blocks from morning until night. 50% of the time people had failed to clean the shower floor after use. On several nights there was noise until late on and no ball games near other peoples pitches rules seemed not to apply to many people. It is a while since we stayed at a large club site and from this experience it will be a while before we stay again (certainly not until covid restrictions are lifted). We think if it would be helpful if basic campsite etiquette and rules are pointed out to people on arrival especially as there will be a lot of new campers/caravanners this season due to the reduction of foreign travel as it seems that there are a lot of people who don't know how to behave on site.

One of the best visited so far

Having only spent 3 nights at this lovely location we cannot wait to return, hopefully same time next year. The site is very peaceful and the walks whether alone or with dogs are fabulous. You could walk in any direction and not see all the park regardless of how long you stayed. The staff were very helpful and patient despite the number of units arriving at the same time. The staff directed the heavy flow of traffic calmly apologizing, whilst not their fault for the delays in booking in. Highly recommended

Great Site if a little noisy

Great site and location, only a one night stay over for us on the way back from Yorkshire. We made use of the Pizza Van for the evening meal. Site very clean and wardens are top notch here, our pitch was brilliant.....hard stand and in the sunshine...with a great line of sight for the Satellite. I rode my bike around the estate and found some great trails to ride again in the future at another booking we have made. Only gripe was the lack of observation by too many of covid rules of masks and using the wristband system but that isn't a critical of the site or staff.

Clumber Park is our Favourite Site

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Clumber Park in our touring caravan, and have booked to go back in September this year. We are both in our 60's and enjoy exploring on our electric folding bikes, which is so easy to do at Clumber. The site is located within Clumber Park itself, so it's really easy to leave the site , and within 100 yards be within the private paths and roads of the park, making cycling an absolute joy. We are members of the National Trust and always enjoy visiting the walled garden, which often has in season veg available for a donation to the Trust. The main lake in the park was absolutely teaming with birds of all shapes and sizes, which on our recent visit meant we were able to observe many mothers with chicks in tow. The paths throughout the park are really quite extensive, giving visitors many options from a short stroll to a 10 mile cycle ride. Cycling around the park is easy and very family friendly, as many of the tracks are fairly flat or have gentle inclines. Even with the over night rain we experienced we found all cycle tracks to be useable, as many had hard surfaces which had drained well. We look forward to returning to Clumber with our Children and Grandchildren.

First Outing

Our trip to Clumber Park was our first outing in our caravan. From our novices stand point the site seemed to be excellent in terms of facilities, COVID precautions, maintenance etc. Inevitably as beginners we had occasion to seek some guidance from the site staff on a couple of occasions and the they could not have been more extremely friendly and approachable. We were most grateful for the assistance and support we were given. Thanks you. Phil and Chris

Not particularly peaceful

We spent three nights here this week. Check-in took a while. We arrived on Monday about 2ish, nothing to do with Covid, just a lot of vans, and some people seeming to need masses of info on arrival. There didnt seem to be quite as many arrivals on other days, but I guess Friday would be busy. System was efficient, and staff pleasant. Facilities we used were clean, although sanitiser sometimes empty; we didnt use toilet blocks at all. There is a lot to do in the area, both from the site (walks into the woods/Clumber park) and nearby with Sherwood Forest visitor centre etc. We didnt find it particularly peaceful. The weather didnt encourage much sitting out, but to be honest, between the mowing (which is transitory and low level noise) and the dogs yapping and barking at anybody who went past we wouldnt want to. I would imagine at weekends and school holidays it would be really noisy. We did realise that the last time we went to a Club site was Thetford Forest (no toilet blocks, smaller site) about a year ago. We will certainly stay clear in future. I was also irritated that in No Mow May the grass was still being mown to within an inch of its life. I get that grass pitches need mowing, and possibly the strips in between the hardstandings, but there is plenty of other grass at this site, with daisies and dandelions flowering, that were cut off during our stay. It seemed no areas were left to grow long. Disappointing.

Great Site in a brilliant location

What a great site! Large and open, even though its in a forest so lots of sun. Many walks in the forest around the site and 3 gates out of the site plus the main entrance. You can walk for miles. This is before you cross the road and enter Clumber Park the National Trust Site. Which is also huge and has many many paths. You can cycle along most the paths if you have anything other than a road bike and there are lots of quiet roads as well. BUT be careful, Clumber Park has/had a huge problem with robbery and you are recommended to lock your bikes up on the bike store which you can access with your gate card. We did this and it worked very well. COVID safety is much better than last year, you don't get a band instead there are bands outside the toilet block in milton which you use and replace when you use the facilities. Masks are compulsory and no showers at the moment. Everything cleaned very thoroughly so makes you feel better, but we used our onboard facilities so can't comment on the age of everything, although we did hear a rumour that the site is closing to be refurbished at some point next year. Only spent 2 nights here, but its clearly very popular as it was very busy. The site has very easy access straight off the A1, but far enough away to not have any road noise. Can't comment on any places to visit and we didn't feel the need to leave the site, but all in all and very good site which we would happily return to.

First post lockdown site visit Clumber Park

This was our first visit to a site after lockdown so I was a little bit nervous. Check in was much improved on sites we visited last year. Clear guidance from the warden outside, only one person in the reception at a time. Surprised not to be give information on the system in place for the toilets but as we choose not to use them it wasn't an issue. Horrified to see the amount of ladies walking into the toilets with no masks on, not using the hand wash and not using the band system. The wardens were very good with cleaning and very cheerful when we saw them out and about on site. Lovely open site which surprised me I was expecting lots of shady pitches but instead we got a lovely open pitch in the sunshine. The forest walks are great with the dog and very easy to socially distance We didn't venture to the visitor centre as we are still avoiding crowds but gives us a great reason to return when things are a bit more normal and hopefully do the visitor centre then Very impressed with the site

Glad to be back.

We stayed for four nights from the 12th April as soon as the site opened. Wardens coped wonderfully with a daily influx of 140 outfits. Interesting stay as the site power kept tripping out. not a problem for us as our 58 year old van was built on just gas and 12 volt and 240 volt is a luxury, but much more challenging for the wardens, one of whom, Andy, ended up staying up all night with the Site Electrical Services engineers. Medal as big as a dustbin lid for Andy please. In conversation with Andy it appears that the site is in seperate zones for power with each zone having about 150 amps available except the top of the site where the bigger zone has 300. The fact that about 490 amps were being drawn resulted in the outages. THIS WAS MAINLY DUE TO OUTFITS INSISTING ON HEATING AWNINGS FOR PETS AND WHEN NOT IN USE. THEY CONTINUED WITH THIS DESPITE A NOTICE GOING UP REQUESTING CURTAILMENT OF THIS PRACTICE. When we have toured around Europe we have frequently come across metered connections on pitches. It seems a bit unfair that we usually draw about 6 amps but pay the same flat rate as flats on wheels with electric everything going around overloading site supplies. Possibly time to consider metered connections when new sites are developed? Whilst I am griping about members behaviour I might as well mention how difficult some members find the current rubber band system in use in these unusual times. It is really taxing remembering to return the band all the way to the Milton bath outside the door!!!!! The site was wonderful as always with the Warden team cheerful and helpful I dont know where you find such lovely people Rant over. Now for Scotland on the 29th.
