A real gem

Hi, Had a great few days at Clumber Park. Lovely cycling and walking trails to follow. All safety procedures professionally carried out. Lovely friendly wardens only two willing to help. The exceptions were the two who walk their dogs on a morning who I found to be really lacking in the expected social skills. Maybe I am too picky. Will definitely be back as this is a real gem. P.S. if you have a choice don't park under the oak trees as you will be bombarded with acorns on your roof during the early hours. Squirrels, ah bless!

Great for all.

First time at clumber park and it won't be our last. Our week was our first following the restrictions being lifted. site was full and buzzing. Its a busy place with kids riding bikes and scooters so have to be mindful of that while driving around. WC blocks are well placed but need bringing up to standards. Access is okay & staff very friendly. Negative points. Queues at Shower blocks. We used our own mostly but at times wanted a longer shower. Bands left on hooks when no-one inside. Phone reception. yep 2020 and no reception. Wifi coped well enough though.

A very nice stay in trying times.

Have returned home after an enjoyable 5 night break. On Site our wash facilities were perfect and spotless. Plenty of hot water and could shower as and when we wanted at any time of day. No peeling paint or dated facilities. In fact for us you could close all the toilet blocks and reduce all Covid risk points if everyone like us used their own facilities. It was good to see the children enjoying themselves on their bikes and making friends. Is this not what the club is about and suggest those who constantly moan about kids on bikes use sites during term time. Arrival time of 13.00 was clearly shown on the email I received from the club but it was clear that members were still disregarding this information as when we arrived at 12.50 there was already about 20 units queuing in both directions of the approach road as well as on the third side road, yet once the site office opened at 1pm the queue soon moved and were welcomed by the most pleasantest of site staff with a warm welcome and apology for the delay. During our stay the site staff worked tirelessly to keep the site clean and even managed to cut the grass during what turned out to be a wet and very windy week. Thank you once again to the site staff

Improvements Required

We stayed at Clumber Park in mid August 2020 and this was our third visit. Unfortunately upon our arrival at 12.00pm we were turned away and told to return at 13.00 hrs. The documentation I had from the C&MHC stated quite clearly that my arrival could be between 12.00 - 14.00 hrs but the lady warden said I had been sent an email stating that the entry would be from 13.00 hrs. Needless to say I had not had any such email but I did notice a hand written chalk board at the start of the entrance drive stating that entry could not be made before 13.00 hrs. However, I was able to park up outside the site and run the clock down where in the following hour a further 11 outfits arrived none of whom had received the email alluded to earlier. I am aware that these are difficult times for us all but it would have been good to have had some kind of an explanation for the delayed entry which now appears to be the policy at this site instead of the rather officious re-buff from the lady warden. The showers in the Gents side of the sanitation block are looking very tired and in need of modernisation. During our stay there was a period of heavy rain and although our pitch was a hardstanding water run off flowing downhill from a site road caused the pitch to flood rendering the area inside the awning unusable until the water had drained away. The site is ideal as a base for cycling being close to Sustrans Route 6 and there are good tracks within the park as well as interesting walks. With no phone reception signals on site the suggestion to phone enquiries to the site team is bizarre to say the least. This site has met our expectations on past visits but fell short for this visit, in fact time for those in charge of site development and administration to have a closer look at the place.

Not the best experience

Very slow on arrival for check in. We had a grass pitch which was spacious but lacking in grass where the awning and van entrance would be, this could be improved by moving the pitch markers to get the worn grass part under the van for instance. There was no chemical waste emptying facilities at the point nearest our pitch. Had to go quite a bit further to main shower block, not good for disabled. Shower block is clean but badly in need of an upgrade, peeling paint etc. Kids on bikes tearing around are a danger to elderly disabled people and site staff seemed to have no control over this, or little interest in it.

August 2020

Been to Clumber a number of times and think for families it is great - good walks and a play area for kids with a small basketball/football court for the slightly older kids. Plenty of children around for them to make friends. The facilities are ever so slightly dated but kept clean and tidy which is what you need during Covid 19 concerns. They operate a wristband system for the showers and toilets and this works fine. There are local food vans on various days one for pizza one for fish and chips and one for breakfast and sandwiches etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful and seem to have it sorted with regards to the Covid19 controls required only too happy to help with any requests for local restaurants etc. Good site - particularly if you are a family.

Great family site

The site is large and well-suited to families with children. The pitches are wide, level and easy to manoeuvre in and out of. Very easy to access the site from the A1 and A614. The staff are efficient and friendly - nothing seems too much trouble for them to sort out. The site itself is kept immaculately clean. We didn't use the facilities this time, preferring to use our own on this occasion, so can't comment on those. The area around the site is fantastic for walking and cycling - there's even a secure cycle lock-up facility for added security of your bikes. This was our second visit and will certainly not be our last.

An excellent site for families

We visited this site with our three grandchildren, we all thoroughly enjoyed the site and location. The site was relaxed enough for the children to ride their bikes and have fun in the park. If you enjoy cycling or walking this site is ideally situated. The wardens were very approachable and were frequently seen walking the site, this gave us reassurance and everything was kept very clean. I was disappointed that some people using the facilities, particularly the showers, would leave without cleaning the area they had used. Thank you to all the wardens for enabling us to still be able to come away on holiday in these difficult times.

Didn't like...

It maybe due to the covid situation. But on occasion there is a large queue of cars and vans either waiting to check in or just reenter the site. If you have already set up and are returning to site this can be quite a wait. Also it is very annoying to sit there in the queue waiting to reach close enough to the gate so you can be told to go through the no entry part. But before you reach that point cars just drive past you and are waived through by the warden. There is no guidance for this. It would be beneficial that when queues are big, a warden could tell cars to proceed onto site or not. Facilities were the worst I have seen on a club site. This is based on the male toilet showers. Seats were loose and dirty and pipework was loose on the showers. I was also shouted at by a female warden to slow down. I had just come through the exit barrier and was turning a Sharpe left hand turn downhill. I drive an auto diesel car and to drive at any speed that registers less than 5mph is impossible. I was not speeding. But the site 5mph rule is almost a joke, especially when kids on scooters are exceeding this all over the site.
