NIce site, needs some tlc

We spent over a week here in beautiful weather. The Clumber Park area is impressive, probably one of the grandest entrances to a site, through a 200 year old archway and driving down the longest double avenue of lime trees in Europe. Our welcome onto the site was fine. There were plenty of pitches to choose from. Not having any children with us the warden advised us that we would probably not want to go near the playpark area - how right she was! We pitched a good way away from it and the noise even from our pitch was loud and went on late at night. (I love to hear children happily playing but why do they need to regularly emit high-pitched screaming??) On the subject of children playing, playing is one thing but being allowed by parents to go off unsupervised around the site running round others' pitches and riding bikes at speed the wrong way is not acceptable. So, the site itself. It's a large site with, obviously, many trees. Some pitches get little or no sun but with a bit of careful sun-checking, there are also plenty of pitches that do get the sun. A mix of hard standing and grass pitches. The hard standings did look quite messy with lots of the stones going across the roadways but also very much in need of tidying up from the weeds and grass encroaching into the stones. There are 2 washblocks both of which felt 'tired'. True they get a lot of use (and not everyone leaves the facilities clean after them). Fittings are very worn eg wash basin plugholes have no chrome left on them so look rusty, screw fittings in showers rusting, hairdryers didn't fully work on the different heat settings or nozzles were loose. The shower temperatures fluctuated widely regularly going from cold to scolding hot. All the time we were there the sign said that the wifi was either very poor or not working at all - very glad I didn't pay the Ā£10 fee for the week. (On one occasion when a visitor did pay the Ā£2:50 for a day, despite the 'not working' notice, it was working but very slowly. There are plenty to places to go to from the site. Clumber Park National Trust grounds are lovely to walk around and the history of the site is really interesting. If you're a cyclist there are numerous cycle tracks around the Park. Lincoln is under an hour's drive and well worth a visit. The Thursday Flea Market at Chesterfield was really busy. In summary, this is a lovely area but the site was in need of some much needed care and attention, especially as for 2 adults the cost is over Ā£30 per night.

Nice site, busy at the weekends

We spent 5 nights at Clumber Park at the beginning of August. We arrived on a Friday around 4pm and the site was already very busy, especially around the playground area, this was fine for us as we were happy to head to the other side of the site. The site did seem to clear on the Sunday/Monday while we were there making the weekdays on the site a little quieter. If you are looking for a quiet pitch I would suggest heading away from the play area it can remain busy into the late evening and with children in our van a quieter area means a more reasonable bedtime for everyone and less arguments about there still being other children allowed to play! There is a Fish and Chip Van that visits the site on a Friday and a Pizza Van on a Saturday (I think this comes another day as well but cannot be totally sure). We didnā€™t have a Pizza so cannot comment on them but the Fish and Chips were lovely. Plenty of chips and the fish was lovely. The site is lovely and the staff helpful and welcoming. Our children did the tourer explorer treasure hunt around the site, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The site facilities were lovely and clean but looking a little tired but this is a very busy site so I would imagine this happens very quickly and didnt stop us using them. While we visited there was a power cut and also some problems with the sewerage system following some impressive storms. The wardens did a fantastic job of getting it all back working again. The WiFi is not great and with no phone signal on the site either for us it made some of our planning for the days out a little frustrating. It did get better during the week when the site was a little less busy however it was still very slow and at time totally unusable. While we were there we visited the National Trust side of Clumber Park. We walked over and found it a lovely place to visit with the kids. The play area kept them entertained, they were also offering some seasonal events such as the Summer of Sport which had the kids doing events and for a Ā£1 donation they got a medal (all kids love a medal), and "50 things to do before you are 11 3/4" unfortunately we didnā€™t get the opportunity to have a go at this but it looked like a lot of fun with den building, making mud pies etc. All of this was lead by someone at the park and was free. We also took a longer drive and went to Wollaton Hall, it is only an hours drive away but has a lovely Natural History Museum, nice walks around the park, some nice gardens and a large childrenā€™s play area. You pay for parking but entry to Wollaton Hall itself is Free. We had a lovely time at this site and we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Excellent long weekend

we arrived to a polite efficient and check in we found a pitch overlooking the children's play area so we could keep an eye on the grandchildren. when i went back to inform the warden on the desk of the pitch number i told her i could not find a point to plug the electric hook up cable in, she got on the radio to another warden who was there when i arrived back at the pitch, he found someone had plugged into the wrong point and it was sorted in no time to everyone's satisfaction. There had been a storm the day before we arrived and a lightning strike damaged the sewage treatment plant but the wardens arranged for tankers to pump out the waste twice a day and kept the toilets running as normal. There was a power cut to the camp and surrounding area for a couple of hours the wardens gave as much information as they had. The site was well kept all the facilities were clean and pleasant. the location is spectacular with fabulous walks and cycle rides on the door step. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Clumber park has become on of our favorites cant wait to return. Thanks to all the wardens for making our stay so special

Have stayed here a lot of times over few years

We have been member or Caravan club for 11 years. Stayed lots of sites every year Clumber Park was our favourite until this year! They say they have Gold standard WiFi now but after paying Ā£10 for my tablet & Ā£10 granddaughters it was still hit and miss if we could log on and often very low signal. Also there were the leads to electric and TV hook up trailing for a long way to next pitch so children were tripping over them, we had to put small carpets and groundsheets over leads! Also having to pay to park car at lake or go near cafe was not good. As I'm partially disabled we cannot walk all that way so had to pay Ā£3 each every day! No if we go Clumber again it will be on day trips. Its a beautiful place but Not staying again on site because there is nothing to do there if your elderly or disabled. Young and fit it's perfect for bike rides but there is nothing on site except for young children! Disappointed we had to pay an extra Ā£3 each every day!

We keep trying - not sure for how much longer šŸ˜¢

We have been to the site on quite a few occasions as it is close enough for us to have a weekend away in beautiful surroundings. However nothing ever seems to improve in fact this time things were worse! On arrival I noticed different wardens from the last time we visited - to be fair they were ok but nothing to shout Home about - not pleasent and pleased to see you - just run of the mill ā€œcan I have your membership card?ā€ ā€œThatā€™ll be Ā£70 pleaseā€ ā€œlet us know where youā€™re parked ā€œ end of chat ! We parked up following the correct club rules however noticed that 2 caravans opposite us were parked front end up to the peg? This confused us as in previous visits we have been requested to move our van due to not having the back corner directly on the peg? We had our 2 small grandchildren with us this time and owing to the none existent phone signal I needed to log onto the new GOLD WiFi in order to let their parents know we had arrived safely ! What a joke I couldnā€™t even log on - this again is worse than last time - last time I could log on but it was VERY hit and miss ! I approached 2 wardens who laughed it off saying ā€œtry when the kids have gone to bed ā€œ and ā€œ thereā€™s too many vans on this weekendā€ - absolutely shocking that in this day and age it is not possible to have some form of contact with the outside world - we are after all in Nottinghamshire not the Outer Hebrides! Oh and following the brushing off of the concern of the WiFi the female warden went on to inform me that I needed to move my 1 year old grandsons trike from the pitch next to ours as people would be arriving on that pitch ! Iā€™m not sure what she expected from us ? That we would prevent someone from pitching there by the use of a toddlers trike? Ridiculous - ooo and to boot no one came on either of the pitches at the side of us! The site was busy (to be expected as itā€™s been hot and itā€™s the school holidays) On the Sunday morning we woke to no electricity and no shower/toilet/washing facilities! We also woke to no information as to why? No wardens came to explain and no notices of apologies ! After all we had paid for these services and now couldnā€™t use them ! Owing to this the site became a mass exodus (along with ourselves!) We have one more long weekend booked on the site - however this will be the last if things donā€™t improve ! Come on caravan and motorhome club get your act together - this is the first site that weā€™ve ever had problems on !

Do like to get in touch with family and friends, even when on holiday!

Very nice site in a lovely location. Staff were very friendly. Toilets were very modern and clean. We will not be going back again as there was no mobile phone access and no internet access. Don't need to know that holidays are supposed to be like this, it is 2018, It is nice to let your friends and family know that you have arrived safe and not have to bike 2 miles up the road as soon as you arrive!!

mixed review....

just returned from a lovely weekend, only a shame to be spoilt by a very rude set of wardens, if we have broken any of your rules [ we had made a dog pen around our awning ] and our dogs were loose inside , apparently they still need to be fastened up ! we assumed this was ok as the wardens have loose dogs in there enclosures.....please don't shout at us from a distance, in an aggressive manner so all around can here, please approach us and discuss it in a reasonable manner, our dogs were not rowdy, you hadn't received any complaints, this was totally inappropriate behaviour, we chose not to engage with the wardens but it did upset my wife greatly & cast a shadow over the weekend. on the flip site of all this, the campsite was busy with families having a great weekend, the facilities were still up to the clubs high standards, & we will return.

Very relaxing weekend

We were here for the weekend and pitched next to the park. It was noisy at times but you expect that with kids around (one of mine likes making alot of noise!) The park went quiet at around 9.30-10pm and after that it was a very quiet site. The park was good for most ages, it says not for under 5's but there is a small area that is perfect for the younger kids. The wardens were helpful and smiley every time we saw them. The facilities were always clean. We enjoyed the site so much that we didn't go anywhere all weekend, the kids were either on the park or on their bikes. We will be returning soon.

Lovely site and wonderful Wardens

I booked one night at Clumber and ended up with my motorhome breaking down in the check-in lane, so I spent the night there waiting for RAC to tow me away the next day. I was pretty much in the way for a full 24hrs and I can't say enough about the kindness of the Wardens. There is no mobile service at the Park at all (you can get service about half a mile up the road) and the Wardens let me use their office phone to communicate with the RAC. They even made me a cup of tea and offered to make me lunch - above and beyond. About the site - this is the first time I'd been back to Clumber since I was a child. I have lots of fond memories playing in the woods here, and although there is a lot less of the forest than there was 20 years ago, it's still enough for some really fabulous walks and delightful peace and quiet. You can walk the outskirts of the site on a wooded path or branch further out for a longer walk along one of the adjacent trails. The site itself feels very open considering it is surrounded by trees - most pitches had sun by 8am. The site is clean and the toilet block was very clean when I used it. I actually had good success with the internet but perhaps that's because I was by the office - either way, it worked for me but my expectations were low because it's wifi in the woods. :) I'll definitely be back.

Feel Sorry for Staff

Currently on this site and have witnessed the hard working staff keeping the site in super condition. Spotless facilities and clean tidy site as usual on Club sites. However the members are not making their lives easy. The worst problem is the speed of drivers including those towing is well in excess of 5mp, easily upwards to 30mph. This added to the many children enjoying the freedom of the outdoors, many on bikes, is an accident waiting to happen. Members it is not the job of staff to police the speed but us as members. Many groups of people having a lovely weekend away allow their children to entertain themselves out of sight, surely 10.00pm is a reasonable time to bring them back to their pitch, chasing in and out of shower blocks and cubicles is not acceptable at any time of day. The club sites are there for us all to enjoy 7 days a week. Surely it is not too much to ask that we respect everyoneā€™s peace and quiet.
