Away from the madding crowd

One of our favourite sites being only 30 minutes from home. It is always the first outing after winter in case we have forgotten to pack anything as we just pop home for it. It must be one of the few areas in Britain where the children play in the old fashioned way not wandering around like zombies staring at mobile phones.

Great for Clumber park and Sherwood Forest

Arrived for the bank holiday after a fantastic summer the weather was a bit cooler. Staff were very welcoming which after reading a previous review was not expecting. We had no children so picked the part away from the play area. We had hard standing which was fine and there was a large patch of grass behind. The showers and toilets were cleaned daily. I think parks that are busy should consider an extra visit even if its a quick wipe and tidy. Had one wet afternoon and day but that's not the sites fault. Lots of lovely cycle tracks and walking. Sherwood forest has a new visitor centre that's worth a visit. We did see some children running in a group and once they came near. We looked out of the awning and one shouted sorry and went on their way. It is a great place for children and if you get away from the play area you could enjoy it too.

Great site but has major issues

We stayed here last weekend the site is a typical caravan club site very clean and well maintained although there are major issues....staff in the shop not very helpful as wanted to pay for groceries with debit card and was not allowed would only take cash which was a real inconvenience to try and find an ATM which was miles away the site is literally in the middle of nowhere..not everone carries cash these days! Also phone signal and internet signal is non-existent even to make a phone call or text is impossible unless you travel to the main road which is ridiculous I don't understand why they charge customers for Wi-Fi when it should be free on a site like this which has no data network whatsoever... the weather wasn't brilliant it was a bit of a washout which was a shame because I'm sure it's a lovely site in the sun just a shame that these issues pull the site down

Wet, wet, wet!

Sadly during our 3 night stay it rained for most of the time, so we don't feel we saw Clumber Park at its best. There is no internet or mobile phone signal unless you drive a couple of miles off the site. Also remember to bring/buy a TV booster cable as we couldn't any get TV without one, they do sell them at the shop if needed (where we bought ours). On the plus side the facilities were spotless, and the fish and chip van and pizza van (both very good) were an unexpected bonus. Not sure we would stay here again due to the lack of phone/internet signal.

What rule book?!!!

My wife and I have arrived at Clumber Park for the first time on 25.08.18 and wish we hadn’t bothered hoards of kids running around the van and through the pitch and riding bikes through the pitch it’s a bloo** nightmare. The parents are just ignoring the disturbance there offspring are creating its like being on a commercial site!!! The toilet blocks are being used as playgrounds the noise is horrendous the kids have no idea how to flush a toilet. Just as well were here for only two nights. We’re not old fuddy duddies we have stayed at child popular sites many times like Hillhead and have 3 young grandchildren who we often take away but have never experienced any thing like this, the rule book has been ripped up completely. The pitches are worn out and the WiFi is slower than dial- up just as well it’s being upgraded soon. Roll on Monday - we move on. Sunday evening, - just told a gang of kids to clear away from my Motorhome - why? - they were throwing sticks within a few feet of my Motorhome and car. Avoid this site if you respect your vehicles, privacy, and abide by the clubs rules. I suspect some of the problems could be that the site allows non members.

Friendly helpful wardens and fabulous walks

Stayed for 5 nights on my own with the dogs this August before the bank holiday. Plenty of pitches to choose from, although nearer the bank holiday it did get busy. Very peaceful, I wasn't pitched too close to the play area so the kids didn't bother. It is a great site for kids of all ages as the play area is one of the best I've seen. During the day it is peaceful enough for the children to ride their bikes along the roads around the site. In fact my own nephew learnt to ride his bike here a couple of years ago, and the girl in the caravan adjacent to me learnt to ride her bike this time. Made me wonder how many children have learnt to ride their bikes here over the years. Such a lovely safe place to learn. I've read some negative reviews about the shower blocks, but honestly, apart from the wall tiles and laminate on the cubicle partitions and doors not being the current colours, it is absolutely fine. There are plenty of toilets, sinks and showers. I've read some negative reviews about the warden's attitudes, but honestly, they were all happy and welcoming. I had a problem with my caravan and all the wardens did their best to help me, they were really good. The site is located within the park itself, so there are fabulous walks to be discovered and the dogs can be off their leads. There was a mobile Pizza van and Fish & Chip van visiting the site which made a nice change. Fish and Chips £6.50. I visited the Walled Garden and the Greenhouse (National Trust) and really enjoyed stepping back in time and walking through the greenhouse, worth a visit. I will definitely visit Clumber Park site again.

Oh BUT

We have been visiting Clumber for many years now and the site I believe is getting tired and needs some TLC It is a very busy site with lots of children and dogs so some barking some peeing around pitches.the rule walk round and not over some ones pitch has really disappeared My main grievance on my last visit was not the wardens or site but Fish and chip van which it seems every one on site uses and consequently after approx 1 hr in the q waiting for service only heard the conversation "Looks like we will run out of stuff reduce the portion size" upon receipt of our reduced Portion the cost was ridiculous and surely we paid the same as the first people in the line. really felt we were ripped off. Wardens really try hard but Fridays are manic and those that come later rush round site looking for space I thought there was a 5 mph requirement very few adhere to that.

Lovely stopover

We stayed here for one night on two occasions recently. It is a lovely, spacious site, much better than a number of CC sites that are like car parks. It is beautifully landscaped & surrounded by the Clumber park woods. We stayed here for several holidays years ago, but see that toilet blocks have been extended well since then. The toilet blocks were very clean. It is true some of the tiling could be renewed, but anyone who thinks they are in need of a refurb should visit either the Wirral site or Godrevy. Clumber toilet blocks are like the Ritz compared with those two! Booking in was very efficient & professional. Although our children are grown up, they would have loved the play area here as well as the space to play. We could hear children playing, but that was nice. We must come for longer and visit the NT park & revisit Cresswell Crags.

Rude Warden

We have just returned from a fabulous weekend on this site with friends but it didn't start this way. Now I may have been speeding according to the warden with his radar gun but was it really necessary to jump out the hedges running, shouting and screaming waving his arms around like a demented gorilla! He shouted at me in front of other people and treated me like a petulant child which was not necessary. I was wrong speeding but I really thought I was about to hit something with this idiots ranting and raving. I didn't have a word because I didn't want to spoil the start of our weekend but if he doesn't wind his neck in he is going to get himself in serious bother somewhere along the line. We will be back because it is convenient for us and we like it there. I do think it's quite expensive compared to other sites though and not having decent wifi in this day and age really isn't acceptable especially as the club also appears to be making a big thing of it. This is even more important at this particular site as there is no phone signal in the area. I do apologise to the other wardens as they were all reasonably polite with the exception of one who knows who he is.

Has potential, lots of work needed

On arrival efficient wardens (couldn't go as far as saying they were actually welcoming) "can we have your membership card" and little else. "Find a pitch there aren't many left, can't tell you where the free ones might be don't know who's parking where." Pitches are actually quite good. Small play area for children which they seem happy with. Busy at weekends as you'd expect. However, had we known that there was ZERO PHONE SIGNAL and NO NETWORK for phones whatsoever we would not have booked, and therefore won't be returning. We came here because of the proximity to our local area, and the need to be at the end of a phone if needed. On a previous visit a few years ago it wasn't so abysmal. If you need to be in touch with anyone by phone or internet this isn't the site to choose. You have to go away from the site and up the road to get any signal. O presume that ypu can pay the rate for on sitr wifo but having read the revisews on this we didn't want to easy more money. Site very expensive already in comparison with other club sites this month. In brief, wardens having a major disagreement and four of them turning up to shout at members on the pitch opposite ours wasn't a great start to our holiday, showers and facilities are old and in need of some work and a good clean (they close for an hour and a half each morning but they clearly need more than this, they weren't clean even then). Great location in itself, good for bike rides. One warden quite helpful. There's a bike garage/lock up if you have your own locks, a good idea. This site has great potential but has some way to go to reach it.
