Wonderful new toilet facilities lift site to another level

We have stayed at this site on 3 previous occasions and enjoyed each visit. We were pleasantly surprised with the improvements, especially in the toilet block, since our last site. The new toilets were easily the best that we have experienced-warm, bright, exceptionally clean and plenty of showers, toilets and cubicles for washing. The site itself was very welcoming and tidy and the wardens were extremely helpful and friendly, A great location with easy access to transport to visit Liverpool and Chester. The superb shopping facilities nearby catered for all tastes and pockets! There were also superb options for eating out once again catering for all pockets and tastes. Definitely one to return too!

Changes or Improvements??

Just returned from a week here. Have been coming regularly for over 20 years. Having heard of the work that had been done over winter we were keen to see what had happened and from reports expected improvements. Our verdict is that there have been changes (some good) but little improvement and some facilities are actually worse, The toilet block has been made more modern, but we cannot see why the there was a need to change gents and ladies sides. Blocking off the entrances from south side also means that you now have to walk all round the block to gain access. The new path to facilitate this means it is a scooter/bike paradise (at night). The entrance has been changed to make entrance into the site easier, but still if 2 vans arrive at the same time a car without a van cannot gain access through the barrier and has to wait.  The water taps have now been positioned high off the ground. So most hoses used to fill aquarolls are too short. Also 3 of the Chem Points are one one side of the site. Only 1 on the North side. The pitches have been re-stoned but only with a top dressing so without proper weed cover underneath the weeds are now back showing. The road way around the site has had no work done so in wet weather there will still be huge areas of standing water. Children's Play area is now better and safer We will be going back again because of the convenience of the location but when it is supposed to be a 'prestige' site and the fees are so high with also a high occupancy rate it still leaves a lot to be desired.

Close to the shopping outlet

Stayed here for 5 nights, got a pitch close to the amenities which are first class. The site is easy to find and our arrival was straight forward with a friendly checkin. The site is close to the motorways so you do get a small amount of background vehicle hum but during the day we were out and in the evening we couldnt hear the hum,mso not a problem to us. The pitches are very level and a good size. We were told the tv reception was good but we no matter which we pinted our aerial we always had some issues, not bad just not great. Cheshire Oaks outlet is a 15 minute walk passing 3 very reasonably priced pubs on he way. We used the nearest, the Rake which did good priced and quality food and is only 5 minutes from the site. Chester or Liverpool are both close. We will be back.

We'll be back

This has to be one of the best sites we've stayed on. Good location for public transport to Chester and Liverpool, within easy walking distance of a Harvester and Hungry Horse pubs, massive Designer Outlet village and a short bus ride to Chester Zoo which is probably the best zoo in the country. Superb new toilet block and wardens were nice, helpful and friendly. Lastly it must be one of the most flat and level sites which is always a bonus. Fail to see what more you could need. We are not dog owners so I wish dog owners would stay at the dog walk end of the site because I'm fed up having to watch dogs doing their morning poop in front of us while we are having breakfast even if all or most of it is picked up by the owner, hence 4 stars for overall rating. And 4 for p&q due to some road noise.

Not for us

We arrived at the site after 4hrs delay but within our estimated arrival time, and was greeted by a terribly grumpy warden. Whilst trying to back our caravan into the pitch, she marched over, repeating pitch instructions even though we were clearly not finished parking. This greeting and rudeness immediately put us on edge and we felt uncomfortable and uneasy throughout our 3 night stay. Toilets and shower facilities are great and brilliant location for all local attractions. Pub serving food only 5minutes walk. The lighting on the site is very poor and felt quite unsafe at night. Not for us at all.

Another enjoyable stay

We have stayed at this site several times because of it's convenient proximity to several attractions. It is an easy walk to the Cheshire Oaks Shopping Centre including a multi-screen Vue Cinema and several restaurants; but the walk does include walking along a busy road with no footway, and crossing the busy main road, so care must be taken especially if walking with children. Chester and Liverpool are easily reached either by car or the bus stop near Cheshire Oaks. The caravan site always seems busy but pitches are well spaced out and we found the site peaceful and quiet. The background sound of the nearby motorway traffic is always there but did not bother us at all. The newly refurbished bathroom facilities are excellent. There are a number of eating places within walking distance or a short drive. The nearest was The Rake which is a Hungry Horse and always seems busy with lots of children running around, and the food is cheap. The Harvester is a little further to walk and is also busy but a higher quality. There are several more nice eating places at the Cheshire Oaks Shopping Centre. Overall another enjoyable stay at the excellent Caravan Club site.

Short Break

Came for a short break after a number of years since the last. Like the winding road layout and the superb toilet block upgrade. Perhaps a second block could be built for those very busy weekends. Great location for visits to Chester, lots of buses serving the city from the Cheshire Oaks shops.

Almost perfect

We enjoyed our late September week on this upgraded site, enhanced by the "Indian summer"! The toilet block is superb with a great feeling of space. One minor criticism is the distribution of chemical closet emptying points, pitches on the outer road between the excellent playground and site boundary have a long travel (inconvenient!). The wardens were cheerful, friendly and helpful. The motorway noise lost it's irritation fairly quickly, making our overall experience most enjoyable. Thanks to everyone.

worth a visit

we had wanted to stay at this site earlier in the year, only to find it was closed for major work. Having visited some years ago we knew it would be a great location, and on our recent visit that was confirmed. One disadvantage from a 'pedestrian' point of view, is the walk to/from the main road is on what can only be considered quite a dangerous and busy minor road, where there are no pavements, and crossing the main road to get to the shopping centre and bus stops is definitely somewhat dangerous. It is without doubt a great site, but we were disappointed in the somewhat inadequate facilities, firstly there were not enough WCs even in the Gents, and every morning there were queues, and the so called washing up area, with only 4 sinks for such a large site is hopelessly inadequate, not helped by the fact that only 3 of them are accessible at the same time. On the basis that often the washing up is done by a 'couple' then why on earth does the CC not think about the practicalities..there was so much room everywhere else, and a decent sized washing up area could easily have been included. Another matter not really thought through, was the distance it was necessary to walk to empty /fetch water, or to empty the Chemical Toilets. Yes the toilet block is, on the map, at least, in the centre of the site, but in reality from many pitches, it was a very long walk around the roadway to get there, especially when the main CEP was lost around the back of this. A little more thought in the planning progress would really have been beneficial. Regrettably it seems that those who design and plan such tings have little idea of the practical use of them! Such a pity, as the potential for the site is great.
