Our first visit to this site, wonderful welcome from the lady in reception, we had booked a non awning pitch but she gave us a choice of several available pitches, what a lovely start to our stay.
Despite being just a short drive from the motorway there is very little road noise, the site is very well laid out and immaculate the facilities are spotless.
Will definitely visit again.
Helpful, friendly hard working staff keep site immaculate. Wheelchair accessible facilities up to usual, consistently good standard found at all Club sites we've used. This is the first time site staff have let us know we can book specific disabled pitches in advance, which is a great tip we will make use of in future. Wish we'd known about it for the last three years we've been members! Well placed as a base to explore Chester, the Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium, Waterways museum etc. But, big downsides for us were the proximity to motorway noise, the small, overcrowded feel of the site, which was full and really felt it, and the volume of litter dumped by users of local fast food outlets on all the approach routes to the site, which made dog walking a trial. We're therefore not likely to be back, despite how nice the staff were.
Pleasant welcome to this very easily accessible and well kept site.
Toilet facilities very good and very clean, no complaints at all.
Good dog exercise area. Right next door to a pub at which there is a discount for CAMC members, other food outlets and retail options nearby.
Another lovely visit to this site, Wardens friendly and helpful, shower blocks warm and spotless,(would not expect any less from a club site). We were visiting family in Wales but stayed here as it was better than the non club site nearer in Wales. So much to do here we will have to come back, easy walking to retail park, lots of restaurants etc. Enjoyed the cycle into Chester along the towpath, easy bus into Liverpool. Great for motor homers no need to move it once on site, (especially with a bus pass!) plan to come back to do the Ferry over the Mersey.
This was our first trip in our new Motorhome and for a wet and windy March weekend we picked the right site. There were three pubs within walking distance (one only a few yards away) and two more further down the lane. The lane does have street lights so I don't understand the comments about it being dark? We ate is all three and the food was lovely (The Rake has a TV so we were able to watch the Rugby, the Old Hall is a carvery and there is a Harvester). There are also many other places to eat on the way to Cheshire Oaks and in the centre if you prefer that sort of thing (McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Express). The shops at Cheshire Oaks were only a 15 minute walk away (turn right at the end of the lane and left at the lights). There is also a large Sainsbury's for supplies.
We found the staff on site very helpful and welcoming and the site is clean and pleasant. We didn't notice any noise from aeroplanes or motorways? We will definitely return for another visit.
Stayed here many times over the years. We we there during storm Gareth it’s was a bit wild at times! The site is handy for Chester just a short drive away. Cheshire Oaks is ten minute walk away and the Boat Museum is also a short drive. The site is very close to the motorway so handy for arrivals and departures but the noise is constant. Clean facilities and although some pitches are in need of attention, as they flood, the site was quiet we had plenty of dry ones to choose from. Great welcome from friendly wardens .
We stayed for two nights in early February, our first time here. Even in wet and windy conditions the drive across the Pennines was easy. The site was as you would expect immaculately kept and staff very welcoming and hospitable. For a motorhomer with no other transport the site is ideal. There are three pubs serving food within ten minutes walk, Cheshire Oaks shopping development is again about ten minutes walk, with a range of restaurants and buses leave from here to both Chester and Liverpool and indeed to Chester Zoo. A huge Sainsburys supermarket is adjacent to the shopping complex also making it unnecessary to drive off site once set up unless you should wish to.
Just make sure to carry a torch if walking Rakes Lane in the dark as it is unlit and without pavement.
Altogether I would highly recommend the site and will definitely return.
First time that we have used a caravan club site after joining a month ago. Wanted a site that was less than an hour away from home at this time of year so this was a good choice. We stayed for 2 nights. Our pitch backed onto a farmers field with horses in so this gave it a countryside feel.
Good location for Chester - 20 mins in car and within 10 mins walk of Cheshire Oaks.
Nearest pub is located about 400 yards away ( The Rake) which allowed dogs in so ideal.
Site was very clean and well maintained and the toilet/showers were spotless.
There is a secure dog area which was useful. Not sure what it was like walking the dog away from the site. It's worth noting that most of the retail shops on Cheshire Oaks allow dogs in.
Staff were very helpful and friendly and this was highlighted on the Friday evening when I ran out of gas. Within 10 mins the matter had been sorted with a new bottle purchased on site.
I have seen the various comments with regards the lane outside the site, you just need to be cautious when using it.
It felt good to get out in the caravan again after a couple of months.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we would stay here again.
Just a quick stopover. Good location. Short walk to Cheshire oaks shopping mall and sainsburys and good walking access to a number of pubs and restaurants. The road from the site to the main road didn’t feel very safe at night though as there is no footpath.
Would go back. I used to live in the area so I know there is a lot to do nearby. Didn’t use any public transport while there but did walk to the shopping centre.
Just got back from 6 nights at Chester Fairoaks.
Campsite was clean and facilities spotless.
We found it a bit noisy with two major motorways close by.
At night, the lighting was very poor making the road humps a trip hazard.
Rake lane has no footpath, so if like us you like walking, you have to be very carefull due to traffic.
The Rake pub serves a very good choice of beers and lagers but the food is typical fast, or junk food.
