Sloping Tarmac!

Very handy site and an effort has clearly been made to upgrade old race course toilet blocks with reasonable success. However, for 'hard standing' read 'sloping tarmac' and expect to be unable to level your rig. For Young families this is not an ideal site due to surface, lack of non-Tarmac space and coded toilets, much better for older groups given the good location on the edge of town.

Good for access to Cheltenham and Tewkesbury

This is an improved site since our last visit. Refurbished toilet blocks. Interesting to see preparations for race days in the following week. Excellent Internet connection thanks to the Jockey Club - free too! Well worth a visit but will need levelling blocks. Fantastic views - recommend pitching in front of the stands.

Cheltenham

A really handy site on the racecourse. It's really handy for the town with the park and ride next door so it's 10 minutes into town centre. Nearly all hardstanding and slightly sloping. Facilities well kept but no privacy cubicles in gents.

A useful site if it is what you need it for

We used this site for the Cheltenham Lit Festival over 3 nights. It is all tarmac, grass was out of use, and some of it slopes quite a bit. However the views were good if you parked in the right place. The main advantage for us was it was right next to the Park and Ride which had a good bus service into and out of town.

Looking for something different

As a location,Cheltenham race course is suited for visiting Cheltenham of course and possibly surrounding area Gloucester if wished. This review is about the site and its immediate offerings. If looking for the usual CC amenties and spec then this site is not for you. We stayed for 2 nights on the way to another place. Essentially pitches are on a car park, however, we managed to book and stay on a grass pitch for one of our nights and would have preferred this option for both and would opt for this if visiting again, which actually we probably won't.The strict closure of the grass area meant we had to move to the "car park". The facilities are quirky, clean and functional. The views acrossrace course are superb and this together with good weather, the running of the steam train and easy bus ride directly from the race course to Cheltenham made our  time here worthwhile. We would not want to stay here in high season nor when the race days are open to public, but realise this maybe exactly what others are looking to do. We met the temporary wardens and they were pleasant having stepped in to assist while the normal ones took up their new jobs else where.Glad to have visited but we shall not be returning unless at a loose end for a couple of days.

OK for the Racecourse

Stayed here for 3 nights for the Brass Band weekend. Very short on Hard Standings with awning and not many with awnings on grass. Mainly tarmac pitches. Ideal for the race course, but it is very expensive for drinks in the course. A good walk away from the town shops. Not the usual Club Site venue.

2nd visit

This was our second visit to Cheltenham Racecourse CC Site, on both occasions to support my son and his band at the National Brass Band Finals held at he Centaur Centre on the racecourse. Perfect site for the weekend with little more than 200 yds to walk to the venue.  Wardens Nick and Karen helpfully waited for our arrival which had been delayed due to traffic hold ups. For children we would recommend the Pittville Park (10 minutes walk) which has an amazing array of activities and obstacles to challenge children of all ages and abilities. The 'icing on the cake' came when our Band was awarded 2nd Prize in the top section of the contest!

Thank you

A big thank you to Nick the Cheltenham Warden who kindly reset my jockey wheel and was so helpful throughout my stay. Only downside were the noisy contractors on the racecourse site during the day and the floodlights from the building on the far side of the racecourse which were not angled at night.

August Break

Hi This is a great site and fabulous location. However, we arrived to be informed that travellers were on site. We decided to stay as we had made arrangements to meet our friends there. We were concerned for our belongings and health and safety but all was ok until they left . The travellers left leaving an awful mess which seemed to take ages to be cleared up considering the health risk. I have complained to the club but to be honest the reply was less than helpful as the Regional Manager in a nutshell seems to consider the rights of unpaying guests as more important than paying members. We should have been informed prior to arriving on site despite the potential for civil action by the travellers or given a full refund instead of a voucher for one night that expires in 2016. Come on Caravan club support your members!!
