Bank Holiday Weekend at Chatsworth

We've just been to Chatsworth for the umpteenth time. We love the site which is why we keep going back. You have to book on the opening day in December otherwise forget it!  The wardens this year were particularly good. Very friendly and helpful. I do have a couple of gripes though. Very few drivers observed the 5 mph speed limit. Indeed some new arrivals would positively fly around looking for that all important good pitch. Slow down! Too many kids flying around on bikes, mainly in the wrong direction on one way tracks. And finally...we ended up opposite a family who were with another family but they all spent the time on the pitch opposite us, noisy, footballs being kicked around and no regard for other people who might just be wanting a quiet time. On the Sunday a third family turned up so we were completely overrun.  I'm not against people having a good time but please consider others when you indulge! Rant over.

Excellent!

I can't fault this site. Spotless facilities, fantastic wardens who were patient and kind with the children visiting their shop, great location and access to Chatsworth (including a discount!). You can walk onto Curbar edge and froggart edge from the site, great access for Monsal trails (cycling) and Tissington. Biggest supermarket is the co op in Bakewell not far away. Lovely site and the kids loved feeding the ducks. Thank you wardens, you are doing a great job.

Wonderful Visit

This was our first visit to Chatsworth and it was superb. Staff were friendly and obliging, the site was wonderful and beautifully maintained. Facilities were great and the Shower block spotlessly clean. We will certainly be visiting again. Soon!

Great, Great, Great!!

All the Wardens were great! We stayed for three nights. We found out that the brakes on our caravan had failed which could not be fixed during our stay. Having been messed around by Green Flag in collecting our caravan (they were 2 hours late and only arrived 1 hour after we were supposed to be offsite) the Wardens were not at all concerned and assured us we were not a problem! A Hughes THANK YOU from us!

wow, what amazing wardens and lovely site

WE VISITED WITH OUR TWO GRANDCHILDREN AND HAD A WONDERFUL TIME AT CHATSWORTH SITE . THE WARDENS WERE VERY VERY HELPFUL ,EVEN OPENING THE SHOP AFTER HOURS ON SUNDAY FOR THE CHILDREN TO BUY SWEETS , THEY WERE FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE , THE BEST WARDENS WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.THE SITE IS CLEAN AND TIDY AND THE SHOWERS AND TOILETS  ARE WELL CARED FOR .    THE ONLY NIGGLE FOR US WAS THAT THE PLAY AREA IS VERY SMALL AND DIDN'T KEEP THE GRANDCHILDREN OCCUPIED BUT THEY HAD THEIR SCOOTERS AND RODE ROUND THE SITE WITH OTHER CHILDREN . WE WERE ALL IN OUR CARAVAN AND SETTLED DOWN EVERY NIGHT BY 8.30 PM AND THE SITE WAS SO QUIET WE ALL SLEPT WELL .     THE ACCESS TO CHATSWORTH PARK MAKES THIS A GREAT SITE FOR WALKERS AND THERE IS A REDUCTION ON A VISIT TO THE HOUSE . WE DIDN'T DO THIS BUT TOOK THE CHILDREN TO CHATSWORTH FARM AND FOR £25 WE ALL HAD A FANTASTIC DAY .WE WILL DEFINATELY BE BACK

Acorn Tree

Super Pitch number 16 had an acorn tree above van roof. Acorns dropping on roof now and again. during the day, no problems, but at night you lay awake waiting for the next one. Other than that great place, Chatsworth farm shop full breakfast amazing along with the really friendly guys and girls at the house. Wardens of course above and beyond call of duty as usual.

Steer clear of the playground!

This is a very large, busy and hectic site but is well managed by friendly and helpful wardens. The facilities are spotless but extremely busy on a morning. Unfortunately we were only able to find a pitch near the play area which was akin to hell until about 9.30pm when thankfully the heavens opened. We have children ourselves but the screaming and squabbling and occasional bad language were awful and ruined what may have been a pleasant evening sat outside. The site has access to the Chatsworth Estate and so is lovely for walks but be aware that the rules have changed regarding bicycles and you can only ride on the tarmac roads and not tracks (so really only the driveways which have the incoming and outgoing visitor traffic for the house and estate). This is a real shame as we specifically came here for the lovely bike riding around the estate and the peace as previously mentioned in other reviews. We won't be back - we have really got to the end of our tether with how rude and obnoxious some people are on these big sites and the small mindedness of certain caravanning types. Not the site's fault but we will stick to certified locations in future.

A New hazard

Been to this site many times which has friendly, helpful and informative staff. Usual high standards throughout. I was interested to read the comments about the children playing and I would just like to add the following. During the last two years of my membership, I have noticed a growing problem, not just with Chatsworth, but with other sites also. Young children riding their bikes too fast and treating  sites  as a race track. Some, (not all) are clearly in excess of 5 mph and also cycle in the wrong direction, not following the painted arrows on the road. Last week here, I was nearly knocked over by a child on a bike riding too quickly and going the wrong way, as I crossed the road by a vehicle that was parked at a service point.  Having mentioned it to one of the wardens, they agreed it was a growing problem and even told me that they had received rudeness and disrespectful remarks when they once asked a child to cycle in the right direction. The point I would like to make here, is that I am a keen cyclist myself and I applaud encouraging children to ride their bikes. However, many are unsupervised and some have clearly not been made aware of safe cycling speeds, one way systems or the dangers of racing others around  sites. A minority of child cyclists have now made it risky and potentially unsafe for adult pedestrians. Is this a case of an accident waiting to happen? So come on parents of young cyclists, if you haven`t yet done so, pass on your responsibility to your children for everyone`s safety. Remind them of the expectations of safe cycling around the sites. Rudeness is no excuse to a warden, when they are only  thinking of your child`s  safety. We would not want it banned altogether, if it was to get out of hand either!

Stately Site

We stayed at Chatsworth for three nights and found the site to be well organised and spotlessly clean. The facilities are first class and well managed. Wardens are friendly and helpful. Having a key to enter the Chatsworth estate via the gate is a nice touch and gives you immediate access to the house and the vast grounds. Location is perfect for visiting the house and gardens, well worth the visit, and of course you get a reasonable discount to these for staying on site, not to mention the voucher for the shops. They are very strict on entry time due to the narrow approach, but if you read the CC book it does make this abundantly clear. Lovely site, would definitely return.
