Lovely Site

From the moment we arrived and booked in we fell in love with beautiful walled site. We stayed on a fully serviced pitch providing all services including an Elsan point for emptying the toilet. The pitch was extremely roomy, comfortably siting our van, large awning and car. The facilities are immaculate and spotlessly clean with powerful showers. The site itself gives private access to the Chatsworth estate with all its lovely walks and excellent eateries. The village of Baslow is a short walk through the estate with a couple of excellent pubs and an Italian restaurant. I fully recommend a stay on this site with it’s beautiful setting and friendly, helpful staff, not forgetting all the cute ducks who sit by you and feed from your hand!

Very cramped site

This was our first stay at this site which is in a terrific location on the Chatsworth Estate. It's a 20 minute walk from the site's back gate through the park. The access road is very long and narrow with only one of two passing places. The 13.00 arrival time must be strictly observed. The staff are very pleasant and the site has one of the best stocked shops we have seen. The pitches are rather close together and the site road is narrow giving a feeling of claustrophobia. We pitched under trees which was a mistake due to the heavy rain during our stay. The shower block was very clean but rather dated. We were kept amused by the very friendly ducks and a couple of clutches of chicks living at the site. Think it is rather expensive for what you get.

Great site, perfect Location, but getting a bit tired,

We have visited this site many times over the past 25years, It is a fantastic location, great for dogs, plenty walks from site, good pubs nearby, Farm shop is amazing (but expensive). Nearby towns of Bakewell and Matlock are well worth visiting, and a walk along Curbar Edge or Frogat Edge is a must Sadly this site now needs some refurbishment to bring it back to the high standards that it should maintain. THIS SITE IS VERY BUSY DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY

Fab as always - just don’t pitch under a Sycamore!

Stayed over the May school holidays, our fifth time here and we’ve never experienced any problems. Arrived at 1.20pm and waited for 20 minutes on the road in. Still had plenty of choice of pitches but it was full by nighttime and remained that way. However, picked the totally wrong pitch, under a Sycamore tree which was shedding and depositing honeydew all over the awning and caravan. Plus masses of bird poo all over the awning. We also had multiple caterpillars in every vent and under every single window seal! The caravan looked like it had an eco roof, and the sides streaked with green and brown. We should have tried to move pitch earlier but stuck it out 4 days before doing so and by then the awning was in a shocking state. Our new pitch was much better. Noisy rooks but at least we weren’t under a tree! Yes, it is pricey but the location is amazing, straight out the back into Chatsworth park and a short walk into Baslow. Lots of other places nearby such as Bakewell and Matlock. Facilities nice and clean. Kids love the park at the top of the entrance road. Good pubs in Baslow, and we also had a fantastic meal at The Bridge Inn, Calver Bridge - 5 mins away by car. A Sunday lunch that was the best we’ve had in a long time. Will be going back another time for tapas!

Mixed feelings - cramped and. it good value and one warden very miserable

There are some very good aspects about this site which we have been to a few times before, but now we have been to other non club sites this one isn’t rating as highly and our last visit wasn’t great. The plus side it’s lovely being so close to Chatsworth and the village is nice. The down sides are ..... You can’t arrive til after 1pm which is fine but the club create their own problems. People sometimes arrive a few mins early eg you can’t always get a journey down to the nearest minute. We knew not to come til after 1 and we didn’t arrive til just after 1. We had only come from Castleton and had to vacate by midday so had to try and find a lay by to sit in, easier said than done but we did it. A motorhome pulled in behind us and left the lay by a few mins before us so he probably arrived about 1255. When we arrived at the site, the road was gridlocked and chaotic. The site don’t drop the barrier which is close to the road u til 1pm, so it creates congestion on the road in. There is a driveway a mile long so why not at least have the chain barrier a bit further along the drive??? So as to get traffic off the village road. When we arrived a nice man met us halfway down the drive and he lets people down one at a time, No problem. Then when we got to the reception area another man decided to have a go at us and lambast us by saying he’d seen us at the junction as there’s a CCTV camera and was not pleasant. Then we got to the pitch which was cramped and the grass was virtually non existent at the back of the motorhome eg about a foot deep max and it looked like it hadn’t been cut for weeks. We felt like we were in a car park which for the price we paid was not good. it was a service pitch but not nice. We only had a choice of two pitches on arrival so had to put up with it. There are many better sites in the area that are more spacious welcoming. I don’t think we’ll be returning in a hurry.

Why Moan?

This is by far our favourite site, its only problem is its nearly always full which must tell you something. We use this site all year round and have done for years. always spotless, always a very warm welcome, always have a great time. facilities are faultless. we don't worry about the Rooks (not Crows) or ducks as they have a right to live just like us and they are a part of the countryside. we always keep our dog on her lead as this is part of the country code. if you visit the countryside then expect to see, smell and hear.. ….. countryside, farm and wild animals, respect it and them. Why moan? the prices are displayed when you book the site so no surprises there, a short wait to get in during busy times is not really a hardship, relax. This is one of the best and most popular club sites, its an unbelievable location and our second home. Five Stars 10/10

Great location

Arrived at 13.30 to join 10 minute queue on the lane to access the site on a Monday. Site clean, tidy and well maintained. No barriers to negotiate. Tripped EHU (former incumbent) was quickly and efficiently sorted by friendly Warden. Continuous noise from crows high in the trees where they defecate regularly on any vehicle below – watch which tree you park under to avoid any mess. Motorhome access point difficult to negotiate. Waste (grey) water disposal requires grate removing to empty water – at 77 years old it plays havoc with my knees. No mobile food vans or ordering of newspapers as is often the case on other sites. No off-lead dog walking (except designated on-site dog walk area) for many miles outside the site – strictly forbidden in Chatsworth Park. Watch out for the numerous Ducks who seem to like jumping up steps into Caravans and Motorhomes to find food – please do not encourage by feeding them. Quiet at night. Overpriced even for mid-week stays. Video of the site - https://youtu.be/UxeU7Yyg7j8

Just spent 6 nights on site, arriving Sunday with about 20 other units all went well and processed very quickly. Site as always tidy and toilets spotless, my only grumble was the speed some people drive around site at all of them elderly gents who should know better slow down ! Left Saturday as the bank hol madness started Thanks wardens a relaxing week

Above and beyond

The most welcoming site with wardens that go above and beyond to help you during your stay. Beautiful location, clean facilities and well maintained. Special mention of the warden named Helen who solved our difficult problem recently so we could relax and enjoy our stay for the Horse Trials. Much appreciated. The 1pm booking in can be awkward but there is no other way to solve the difficult situation. The staff cope admirably with this and remain efficient and pleasant. Returning later in the year.
