Helpful wardens

Recently had very enjoyable stay. Came to leave and got a puncture, (valve perished). Big problem, especially at my age! However Dave the warden came over and provided invaluable assistance. Back on the road in no time. It is a well run site, with a wonderful shop. Will be back.

Perfect for where we wanted to go.

We were off to the Black Country Living Museum, which as luck would have it was their 40's weekend. It was brilliant. We had such a good time and now we know about it would consider dressing up ourselves. Would be useful for the NEC as well. We also visited the transport museum next door which was a very good way of spending a couple of hours at the site. The farm shop was good and the restaurant as well though limited as to serving at 4pm on a Sunday. However club members get 10% discount though the wardens didnt tell us that, it was one of their cashiers.

Lovely stay

We have just had a lovely 7 day site at this site. I had no problems whilst there. The wardens were friendly and helpful, the toilets were spotless, the showers were hot and powerful and the site was kept clean and tidy. As to one of the toilets being "tired", I thought it was absolutely fine. Perhaps having peach tiles with flowers on them made the block tired but to me, the cleanliness and how good the showers work are far more important! I would say that the pitches at the top of the site (pitches 10 to 14) were noticeably noisier than those in the middle and nearer to the reception area due to the nearby adjacent road to Birmingham. The site is well situated to getting out and about. The M42 and M5 nearby allowed us to quickly get to places. The train station at Whitlocks End was a godsend. It is about 3 miles from the site with free parking (it does have a height barrier though) if you buy a train ticket. A ticket to Birmingham was £4.60 return per person. The National Trust Back to Backs property near Moor Street train station was really interesting and well worth a visit. We also went to the Black Country Museum at Dudley which is recommended, especially the trip through the canal tunnels ran by the Dudley Canal Trust. A trip further afield to David Austin Roses at Albrighton was brilliant. The rose gardens were a mass of colour, amazing. Stourport on Severn and Bewdely were both lovely, interesting riverside towns to have a stroll round, as was a walk along the canal and locks at Hatton Locks (amazing scones at the cafe there). We also went for a nice walk up the Clent Hills and visited the Rock Houses at Kinver (both N.T). The fish and chip shop in Wythall village is recommended, the fish was cooked just right. The meal we had at the Coach and Horses at nearby Weatheroak was alright, nice but nothing spectacular. All in all, it was a really nice week.

Very convenient overnight stop.

We’ve used this site on a number of occassions for visits to Birmingham and for overnight stops. Our latest visit was on a return trip from Durham. The site is very convenient for the M42 and has lots of good facilities - filling station, supermarket and restaurants nearby. The nearby farm shop is excellent for a hearty breakfast and Caravan and Motorhome Club members receive a discount. It is also good for stocking up with local, produce. The wardens are friendly and keep the site looking tidy. The large tarmaced area is ideal for a quick overnight stop.

Disappointing Visit

We have used this site on very many occasions on our trips to and from the South West. We have always found it to be a pleasant green oasis and an ideal place to break our journey, being only a few miles from J3 of the M42. This has not changed and on this 2 day visit we were warmly welcomed by Mrs Warden and other staff were friendly. However, the standard of behaviour of other people leaves a lot to be desired. One woman with 3 small dogs felt it perfectly acceptable to use an area of grass pitches for their toileting requirements which was done on a regular basis - she had to walk past the entrance of the dog walk to do this. We were woken up late at night by people returning from a celebration opposite our pitch. The toilet block nearest to us was left in a filthy state first thing in the morning and I have nothing but sympathy for the wardens having to clear this up. I cannot understand the mentality of some people which is the reason we are starting to use main sites much more infrequently than we used to. Consideration for other people seems much worse than when we started caravanning 35 years ago. None of these problems could be blamed on Club staff who worked hard keeping the site well maintained.

Very convenient site for N.E.C.

Visited recently to attend Gardeners World Live at the N,E,C and found the site to be all we expect of a club Site. Efficient ,friendly wardens ,Clean warm facilities.Tidy and well kept pitches. The only downsides were slightly variable hot water temperature and a mild feeling of being pitched in a car park, with some large puddles.(the weather though was rather damp to put it mildly) It is rather difficult to see what Birmingham ,as The Second City, has to offer within the city but outside there is a better range of interesting destinations. The Markets in the city were a major disappointment and we headed to the Custard Factory after reading about it, but unfortunately the reality was somewhat different, Again a let down. For the second time we have visited we felt that people on the site were less friendly than on most larger club sites, and wonder if this is due to a larger than average throughput of one nighters.

Ideal Location

Just spent just over a week here and couldn't fault the staff or site. Despite the toilet block being a little 'tired' it was always spotlessly clean and well maintained. Good access to the surrounding area and although in the middle of everything it is quiet and secluded.

A member in need

A little while ago now (Oct 2018), my wife and I were unfortunate enough to have our son very seriously injured in hospital at the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham. His injuries were severe enough to keep him there for a long time, and we were faced with the prospect of travelling to see him each day from our home in Shropshire. Clearly that was not going to be feasible for very long and we then looked at renting a house nearby but to no avail. Having a motorhome, we approached the site wardens at Chapel Lane and explained the situation to them and asked if there were any spaces for us and the possibility of an extended stay. I don't know what they had to do to accommodate us (I'm pretty sure that they went to some length), but they pulled out all the stops and managed our stay. It was a very dark time for my wife and I, child in critical care in hospital, living miles away and no accommodation nearby. I have the highest regard for the Warden and his partner and the deputy wardens at the time for their empathy towards us and taking away a huge weight off our minds during a very difficult period. The site is absolutely ideal for access to the city of Birmingham and it's attractions and is expertly maintained, great dog walking just off site, plus a fab chippy in the nearby village. Highly recommended! Do say hello to them and give them our warmest regards, you'll find them very friendly and knowledgeable, a credit to the club indeed.

Second visit to this site. Very well kept and maintained by the wardens. Good walking in nearby area. Good access to Birmingham and all its attractions. Helpful and friendly wardens. Well laid out pitches. Would recommend to others.

Restful, welcoming and well-located.

We've thought about coming to this site for our long weekend season launch for so many years but always let other options take priority. They won't anymore. So well located in terms of the major routes from the north, south, east and west it is ideal for that quick 2-3 hour max travel time, particularly when you're only away for 3 nights. Yet despite the proximity to the motorways and trunk roads, an air of calm pervades. If you do become aware of the distant hum, it merely serves to contrast against the peace and certainly didn't drown out the bird song. Wardens, like so many, exemplary. Friendly, welcoming, efficient so just the ticket. Two loo blocks always assists with those lazy Sunday mornings with no need to clock watch in case you get caught short. And as for the comments about need of upgrade, I prefer to use retro to describe rather than the more negatively associated dated. After all they were clean, warm and the showers were powerful enough and hot enough. Everything else is just window dressing surely. Located so closely to Birmingham with its plentiful things to do, certainly more than we had time to take in. Didn't have enough time even to test the walks to the local pubs so I guess we'll just have to leave that for next time. We'll be back!
