Excellent stopover

This site is an excellent stopover and is surprisingly pleasant, however I do have a couple of major gripes. A motorhome is probably in most cases the second most expensive item someone will buy, once you have it you want to take care of it to get the best value you can from your investment. Unfortunately when you take your expensive vehicle to Chapel Lane and select a hard standing pitch you are on a surface that is made up of tarmac and a covering of fine black grit that no matter how much care you take will end up inside your van and imbedded into your lovely carpets. Not only is this annoying it will damage your carpets and make them dirty. My second gripe is the lack of maintenance in the toilet blocks, little things like missing coat hooks in the cubicles, damaged tiles and an overall appearance of being in urgent need of a refurbishment.

Excellent site for visiting NEC and Birmingham

Well maintained site in very convenient location. There is a farm shop close to the site which also has a restaurant / cafe and a very quirky bar!

Good to visit Birmingham

Visited here for three nights last week. Tidiness of site and cleanliness of facilities of usual high Club standard. Facilities block we used nice & warm. Wardens pleasant & helpful. We went to Birmingham one day. We are motorhomers so couldnt use the park & ride at Whitlocks end (there is a height barrier), so got a taxi from the site to station & same on return (£6-£7). Trains are every 20 mins from Whitlocks End. Wythall station is nearer but trains only every hour. We wanted to visit the Staffordshire Hoard & visit the canals - both of which we did. The bus from outside the site is every hour and takes a circuitous route to Solihull. It does call at both Wythall & Whitlocks End, but takes its time getting there. Having bus passes, we decided to take the bus to Solihull on one day - we wern't sure what to expect, but it is a pleasant, compact shopping centre. There is an open High Street and an under cover shopping centre. Lots of big names - John Lewis, M & S, Waterstones, Lakeland, Hotter etc etc and a few independents. We didnt intend to shop - but we did! There is a small bit of Old Solihull at the end of the High Street near the church. Bus journey took about an hour but if you are interested in suburban & rural housing and like bus journeys it was quite interesting. If you want to go to a supermarket by bus, there is a big Sainsburys at Maypole - about 20 mins along the bus route. Having only had the motorhome this year (caravanners before) this was the first drive over waste point we had used - so much better then lifting manholes! A bit of road noise, but nothing to trouble our sleep. Awning pitches are on gravel & have grass in between - so no expanse of tarmac. A convenient site which we would be happy to revisit.

A very handy site which offers more peace and quiet than you expect!

We have been to this site before, and found it not only convenient but also peaceful and quiet. It is close to J3 on the M42 but it is always surprisingly quiet and peaceful. There is occasionally some very faint traffic noise in the distance but the birdsong is closer and louder so its not a problem. Our visit in early November found us right next to a MASSIVE firework display about which we knew nothing until it started, so it wasn't quite as calm as usual in the evening, but the spectacular display was worth the compromise. In line with most C&M sites, this one is clean and well managed. Its staff are friendly and welcoming too, always a plus when you've had a long and arduous journey to get to the site. The only negative I can offer was the size of the breakfasts we ordered at the close-by Becketts Farm shop. There's 10% discount when you show your membership card, offering good value in the shop which is wonderfully stocked and the restaurant which serves great food. The breakfast is MASSIVE such that we could scarcely move after eating it! Not such a bad negative really, but check the size of the portion before you order if you can!

Very Convenient

A very convenient 5 minute detour from M42J3, or at least it will be once the pesky roadworks have finished. Nothing more to add to what other reviewers have said about this site being handy as a stop-over &/or good base for the NEC. - its all true. Pro's: Clean, well managed, great wardens (they found my dog peg that I left behind which I subsequently picked up on a later visit the next week), easy access, 50% mid week discounts, very good Info hut, good herb garden, good WiFi reception (at least for Three), ditto for TV etc. Con's The large tarmac area is less than pretty and feels like a car-park The key fob deposit box is outside reception so when leaving you have to get out of your vehicle.

Fantastic Stopover

Booked here for the NEC Motorhome & Caravan Show. Great welcome from very friendly wardens. Just a short distance from the M42, bit of roadworks at the roundabout off the M42 but no real delays. Becketts Farm is just brilliant for food shopping and of course the restaurant, My Faithful all Day Breakfast is a must, other meals are available! Will be using Chapel Lane a lot more in future as a stopover for a couple of days on our trips up North. Just a warning for next year getting to and from the NEC on the first day (Club Day) was so busy on the motorway, 2 miles from the exit we hit the stationary traffic so stayed in the inside lane as we were off at next junction. All other lanes seemed to move but ours. At NEC exit inside and first lanes both go off to the NEC, therefore don't stay in the inside lane move out to the next lane it's much quicker!!! Again when leaving NEC there was stationary traffic going south on M42 so we diverted through Solihull to get to Chapel Lane. Pretty route bit busy but at least we kept moving and was worth it.

We used this site to visit the NEC for the caravan and motorhome show. Good site, easy to get in and out, clean toilets and showers, nice friendly wardens, good site pitches, all good.

Just a stop over

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our current tour. As a site I would say it is OK. Personally I did not like the large, featureless tarmac area as it remined me of a truckstop. The facilities are perfectly good and spotlessly clean. There were very few people on the site when we stayed so perhaps it lacked a little atmosphere (nobody's fault of course) I did incur the wrath of the Chief Warder for breaching his one-way system to empty my offside mounted grey tank (my bad). Perhaps thats why we see so many people emptying tanks on the road. All in all, no complaints butnot a favourite

Fantastic stop over

We have stayed at Chapel Lane numerous times as a stop over on our way to the south coast. For us it is the perfect mid way point, The site is fabulous as it is consistently good in all aspects. Wardens are excellent and helpful, site always clean and well maintained. WE always use a serviced pitch, however when we do use the toilet/shower blocks they are always perfect. WE will be back again soon.

Perfect Stop Over

We only stayed for one night to break the journey home from the northern Lakes down to south Somerset. Access very easy from the M42. Helpful wardens. Lane outside the site quite busy but there were several local footpaths on which to give the dogs a good leg stretch. I don't think the location of the site would appeal to us for a longer stay but would definitely use again to break the journey heading north/south.
