Our first proper trip away in our new MH ...when we explained this the staff were lovely to us as everything was new ...where to fill up, facilities, which pitches to use etc ....we learnt a lot from them and they could not have been more helpful, whenever we saw them they had a big smile and checked we were ok and everything running smoothly for us ...which it was.
The location was brilliant for us walking and cycling and local pubs/facilities and hot spotless showers and facilities were excellent. The drying room was a god send for all our wet outdoor kit and when I left some of it behind they found it and rturned it to me ....5* service and a brilliant first experience, thank you 😁🚍
This is fairly local to us so I'm sure we will be back x
Lovely Weekend
Arrived Friday lunchtime to an office full of staff. Apologies that pitch electricity was temporarily down. Some pitches were shut off completely. Not an issue, we walked in the afternoon and had a good excuse to visit one of the many great pubs in walking distance. Power was back on by evening. This situation was good for us, the site was not full. Some pitches were left empty, so it was less like camping in a carpark. Great walks on the doorstep. Lovely village with tourist attractions, good pubs for food and ale. You don't need to move your car all weekend. Definitely worth a visit for all ages.
Great location
This is a great site for walking and visiting Castleton and Hope on foot and their various dog friendly hostelries. The site is well laid out, the facilities clean and the walk into town safe along the footpath, which is lit.
Lovely winter weekend break.
Stayed on a service pitch with our new caravan to try everything out and have a good break. We have visited this site on numerous occasions and again it lived up to our expectations. The service pitches are well laid out and grouped together on a separate area of the site. They are level and spacious. Despite the site wardens being busy getting everyone booked In for the weekend, they were very pleasant and accommodating. The recent refurbishment has removed some of the awning pitches and made them into non awning ones. Whilst this creates more space on the site, it does restrict the number of pitches for those of us who caravan through winter but need an awning for muddy boots, clothes etc
. A visit to Castleton is a must and most pubs are dog friendly too which is a bonus if not a bit embarrassing when your dogs know which one to drag you into! We had a lovely walk up cavedale, man for and winnats pass. Cold but dry
A wonderful club site. Have already booked to go again.
Good site, great location
Our first visit to Castleton but won’t be our last, beautiful little village, great walking. Site well kept with good flat pitches. Toilet block recently done out, however shower pressure disappointing for a new system, the fixed shower heads also not the best with low pressure.
The site internet for a gold site quite slow,
However the location and walking make up for the little niggles on site
Excellent Site, wonderful wardens!
Just spent a couple of nights here as a stop-off on way home from Yorkshire and thoroughly recommend.
Wardens were really friendly and helpful, pitches well spaced with plenty of room and beautifully maintained.
Castleton is a lovely village (recommend the Peak Hotel for good beer and lovely surroundings!) with lots to do and see for all the family.
As noted before, bus stops are 2 minutes from the entrance and serve all local destinations and are regular and cheap!
We were there during the recent Storm Eleanor and pleased to report no damage despite 60 mph gales!
We will return, thank you.
When the lights went out...
We stayed here over Xmas. It is a smashing site, with great walking opportunities, and the village is just a short walk away with pubs, village shops and a new information centre. On the whole, the wardens do a very good job, but I did need to borrow a snow shovel to clear away a large amount of rotting leaves piled on one side of the pitch.
I believe £2M was spent on the recent refurbishment - so why wasn't the electrics upgraded? We had a short power cut, early one evening - then at around 11.30pm towards the end of our stay, half the site went off. It was 4 hours before an electrician arrived, and one hour after that before power resumed. Problem is in winter, you leave the heating on a low setting overnight, so it got quite cold, plus the fridge was off. And why should we use our expensive gas when we're paying over £30 a night?
According to members I spoke to, this happens fairly regularly. The electrician said the electrics weren't fit for purpose. Come on Caravan Club - get this sorted!
Great visit to Castleton Site
We visited the site to attend the Peak Cavern Concert in early December which was excellent. The site is very good and the new shower block is great with adjustable showers which are HOT. The village of Castleton is a short walk and was very festive. We especially enjoyed the Christmas Tree Festival in the church. The Mam Tor to Lose Hill walk can be done directly from site.
Christmas at Castleton
Castleton was amazing especially after dark with all the Christmas tree lights, it was just stunning and a great Christmas feeling. The site kept up the theme with lovely decorations, tree and lights around the reception area. Even if you didn't stay it is worth a visit.
It was good to see the site also had a tree in the St. Edmund Christmas tree festival. Well done and thanks to all the staff, your efforts are appreciated.

Yet Another Great Stay
Yet another great 5-day stay at this excellent site, timed perfectly to get lots of hiking into the nearby peaks (eg Mam Tor and Lose Hill) in very decent weather for December - leaving the day just before snow arrived courtesy of 'Storm Caroline' !
[I come about every 18months, mentioned upgrades only seemed to be the conversion of some pitches to being 'Super' and the addition of a dog walk (no dog, still handy as it has a footpath though it for shorter access to the pavement ) - everything else seemed unchanged to me...]
For what should be everyone's aims in the area, the the site location is ideal for hiking (footpaths start barely 100m from the entrance), visiting Castleton, bus and trains (stops are within 200m of the entrance) for further afield (eg northern Edale valley).
Largely flat pitches and an (essential, even when it doesn't rain like during my stay !) drying room and the wifi signal was strong/reliable (pitch 88, near the facility blocks).
The cherry on the cake is the midweek discount (tempting fate I know)....
No electricity supply problems others have reported, despite site being about 75% full with chilly days and cold nights so most of us would have been using heating devices.....
Decent TV reception, just note the direction is about 120degrees with a VERTICALLY polarised signal !
My only observation is why isn't the site leaflet available for download on the site webpage ???
