Great little site

Another great stay at this site, stayed here a number of times over the past few years. The only pitch left this time was number 1 which in my view is way too small for a caravan and a car on the pitch, had to park my car in the car park which was a bit of a pain. Toilet block is fantastic after it’s refurb. All in all it’s a gem of a site.

Ideal walking location

Excellent 3 nights in which we were able to walk and cycle from the site as well as cycle around the Derwent valley reservoirs. Castleton is very close and offers good pubs and food. Facilities are excellent and modern with the exception of the Motorhome service point which requires leaving through the barriers and re-entering the site, as well as being on a significant slope which made emptying our waste disposal tank impossible. We were not the only ones having problems which led to a queue. Not ideal design for a recently refurbished site!

Mighty Castleton

Once again Castleton site has come trumps, had my birthday weekend here last weekend got to site late but shop stayed open for us as we had phoned earlier. After setting up we headed for the Castle Hotel great food many offers for mid week and weekends, next day's headed for the hills Mam tor, Hollins cross and Cavedale. The site is a must if you want fresh air, clean facilities and friendly staff, I could write a book about the site and the area it sits in just beautiful.

So much to do

We drove from cornwall and wished we spent more days here but it was booked as there is so much to do around this area. Chatsworth house is a must visit simply stunning and so massive. Speedwell caverns and Peak caverns, also other caverns around to visit, cycle paths, walking routes, so many pubs in castleton, almost tried them all, all within walking distance from the site. The site itself was very pretty and quiet, everyone was so friendly. Very clean toilet and shower blocks as was the rest of the site. We will be back again.

Can't wait to go back

Our first time at Castleton and we were very happy with the site. We appreciated the friendly welcome and all the small touches like the help-yourself herb garden and the little 'flower pot men'. The site is well maintained and the facilities were kept clean and tidy no matter what time we used them. Although the site is in the middle of the countryside it has a private feel as it is surrounded by trees. There is some occasional road noise but nothing to spoil the peace. Its a short walk into Castleton with a range of pubs and cafes. Spoilt for choice for walks in all directions. We wouldn't hesitate to go again.

Enjoyed our stay

This was our first time on this site...we were not disappointed. It is very handy for Castleton and Hope. The site was very clean. The toilet block impeccably so. We do not have children so are unsure if there even were facilities for them. Thanks to the very helpful wardens who managed to get us an extra night and thanks also to the lady warden who advised us to leave at 12.30 as we were moving on to Chatsworth...her timing was just right as we arrived at Chatsworth at 1pm! Our dog enjoyed his time at Castleton. The dog walk is small and lead only but there are walks nearby even for older dogs as ours is. He kept wanting to go back into the Pub where we ate for a lie down. All the pubs appeared to be dog friendly and some of the shops too. It is a pity we live so far away from Castleton as it would be a great weekend break. Thanks again to the friendly wardens.

Loved it!

This was our first visit to a Caravan and Motorhome site and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The site and facilities are superb and the motorhome service point was great. The local village has lots of pubs and it was a shame we weren’t there long enough to try them all! It’s a walkers paradise with amazing views .... I’ve a feeling we may be back for more walking and to visit the pubs we missed 🤗

Do not book days separately and all should be well

Our problems arose when we could only book 3 days initially, when another day became available we booked this separately. When we arrived we were told that we would have to move from our none awning pitch to an awning pitch (bigger pitch) on the 4th final day. We did ask if we could stay on the smaller pitch and was told that was not possible unless a pitch under repair became available. Thursday we asked again but they could still not say, we did not like to be rude but had wondered why after being told by other campers that other people were being asked to move but the opposite way round so common sense makes us wonder why they could not let us and the other people where possible stay put. Not wanting to appear rude but wondering why they were not able to work this out we waited until Friday as we had noticed the cone had been removed. Visit to the office at 10:30 was still not able to confirm we could stay put and said they would know by 12:00 if the other pitch was back in use meaning we could stay. Importantly they did not say that we could not go out and that we needed to return to the office at 12:00 no later or that they would ring us to confirm that we still wanted to stay. When we returned to the site at 14:15, the warden had given the repaired pitch away meaning we could not stay on the pitch as they had tried to contact us on the number held on file which is a work number not in use when on holiday which we would have told them had they told us that they were going to phone us. They said that they needed to confirm that we still wanted to stay on our pitch as we may have changed our minds between 10:30 & 12:00 !!!!! If this is their procedure, fine but not fair if you don't share this with members. We were that disappointed that we moved to another site for the last 2 nights.

"It does what it says on the tin" - fabulous

As new members this is only our second stay on a club site and we were not disappointed. The reviews from previous members were overall very accurate and a good reflection on the site, its location and the facilities. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, directed to our pitch and got on with setting up. We were on one of the new serviced pitches not far from the road, and have got to say were not disturbed in any way with traffic noise. The toilets were immaculate whenever we used them, showers fabulous with good pressure and plenty of hot water. I just wonder why some users of the gents toilets did not always leave the WC’s in the immaculate condition in which they found them giving unnecessary work for the wardens. I wonder what their toilets are like at home. As other reviewers have mentioned the site is close to Castleton village with some lovely pubs and a couple of shops both selling the essential groceries, with one doubling up as a bakery & off-licence, and the other a post office. There are plenty of walks in the vicinity and there are four caverns providing tours to view the areas infamous “Blue John” stone. We visited only one of these (Blue John Cavern) so are not in a position to compare them, but nonetheless it was an interesting tour and good exercise descending 245 steps, climbing the same number back up. Peverill castle is also worth the effort to visit, walking up the steep path if only for the views over the village and further afield to the Hope Valley, Mam Tor and the other high points in the area. We will definitely return
