mr walters

the site is very good but don't think your dog will be walked on site as the dog walks are not as big as your pitch and the road is very busy so you have to walk off site

One of the best sites in the network

We stayed over the first week of the easter break and experienced Castleton in all its glory. The weather was superb and the site was a superb base for taking our two young children and dogs walking in the surrounding hills. The area is a mecca for runners, cyclists and walkers and you can easily spend a week and never have to drive anywhere. I liken the area in many ways to the french alps with the numbers of people exercising in the early evenings. The facilities were spotless and the wardens friendly and extremely helpful. I cannot praise them enough and look forward to returning soon.

Mighty Castleton

Once again Castleton has come up trumps, just stayed here for our first outing this year. Once setup completed we went off for walk up to Hollins Cross then onto Mam Tor and back to Castleton, we made a booking at the Castle Hotel for Friday tea £26.00 for three courses including wine great food. Lots of walks from site we went to Hope Cross near Win Hill and another day we went to Bamford Mill all from the site. Can’t wait to get back there, thank you to all the staff.

Perfectly peaceful

This was our first time at this site, greeted very warmly by the wardens and given all the information we needed. This site is extremely well looked after, maintained and clean, the dog wash and walking area is a bonus, the site is within walking distance to the town, with an abundance of pubs, cafe's and shops. Mam Tour was an experience to walk to, it certainly gets your heart rate going, but well worth it when you reach the very top, the views are spectacular. The walk to Hope across the fields is very pleasant, but during our stay rather muddy, however you can also walk along the road to it too. Our only gripes, which we feel we need to mention are that the pitch we had (60) was on the end by the water amenities, some members clearly forgot pitch etiquette and thought it okay to just cut across it! Plus during our stay the toilets particularly the men's were left in awful states, I'm sure I must speak for others when I say "please for the sake and respect to other members and the wardens flush & brush when you've finished your ablutions" This is a site that is very popular and gets booked up quickly, we will certainly return if we can get in!

First Visit Since The Upgrade

Our first visit since the site was upgraded, mainly due to the site being full on the dates we wanted. Great facilities as usual and the toilet block update is lovely. Superb staff who were extremely helpful and the celebration cake was nice too. Easy walking weekend for us and we left the site and walked up Hollins Cross and Mam Tor, needless to say we have more to conquer so will be back....if we can get in of course. My only big gripe..... Vehicle Speed....please slow down....all to many drive too fast....my small gripe...please those with children, if they are on bikes, scooters etc...please make sure they observe the one way system as along with the vehicle speed there were a few near misses.....

IMMACULATE SITE WITH LOVELY WARDENS

We booked here as it was the only site within 1.5 hours travelling time which had late availability. We could only book for Saturday, as Friday was fully booked. However, on arrival the warden told us that there had been quite a few no-shows for the Friday night, which was very annoying!! We agreed with the review from "BEANSTICK" that a deposit system should be re-introduced. We wouldn't mind paying £5 deposit for each night booked. At least people would think twice about block booking and not turning up! Despite that, the wardens (who we recognised from Clumber Park Site) were very welcoming, and friendly. We have met this lady several times and she always has a smile on her face! The toilet block has been updated since our last stay, and the facilities are immaculate. We probably wouldn't book a serviced pitch again as they are in a cul-de-sac and some of the pitches are a bit difficult to access with a long unit. Probably not a site for children unless they like walking. It is an easy, flat walk in to Castleton where there are half a dozen pubs, a couple of restaurants, and tea rooms etc, so no need to cook if you don't want to. We would love to stay here more often, but unfortunately pitches are rarely available, and not everyone can book a year in advance.

A Brilliant Stop Over

I found it quite hard to find at night as the signage was limited, I ended up a single track farm road with CaMC signs on it for a members only farm site, then struggled to turn around a 25ft long motor home in the dark, I called the site for help only to find i was right next to it, Once on site though i found everything perfect the wardens were fantastic even checking on us after we were parked up, the site itself we found to be brilliant, It was quiet (just the odd loud exhaust passing by) it was very tidy & the facility's were amazingly clean, its well laid out for sorting out the home before we left, the motor home point is well placed, we will be back as we feel we missed a lot of the surrounding scenery as this was just a one night stop over this time.

Fantastic site

We spent two nights , we wish it had been longer!. The staff were lovely and the site is very well kept. The walk in to the village was less than ten minutes down the road. Castleton village has plenty of pubs , eateries and lovely gift shops. We went on a boat in Speedwell Cavern , which was very interesting and enjoyable. We have booked again for November, please could there be more availability if possible ?. The site is fully booked up at weekends for the whole year, (couldn’t book a Saturday)I personally think people should be able to book six months in advance for a site but not a year. I would be interested to know if there are many last minute cancellations Thanks for a great stay.
