I approached our week at Cherry Hinton with some trepidation after reading some rather negative comments about the male warden posted by a minority of members. We found both wardens to be helpful and friendly - the negative reviews just feel like the caravanners in question are overly sensitive and not used to dealing with people. Everyone is different - don't stress out and leave negative comments for such a lovely site. Wardens are individuals and do a great job. This site is relatively small and compact and needs a firm hand at the tiller to keep it on track - there are not big open spaces where you can drive round with your van looking for a pitch, so the wardens invite you to walk the short distance and choose your pitch before you leave the entrance area. Felt a bit weird at first, but fully understand the case why this is in place. The amenities block is the cleanest and tidiest I think we have ever visited - well done. Cambridge itself is really accessible, although very busy with bikes. The Fitzwilliam museum is a must visit attraction. Punting on the Cam is also fun, but on the pricey side (the museum is free and you can easily spend all day there) There are 3 good National Trust properties within easy driving distance - Wimpole, Anglesey Abbey and Ickworth - all are superb So we had a fantastic week and I for one would like to put on record my personal thanks to the wardens.

I stayed here for 6 nights at the beginning of September. My other half was at Cambridge Uni at this time so it was a nice break to stay in the caravan rather than the college digs. First thing that is different is that you cannot arrive before 1pm (well you can but you won't be able to get into the site as the office is closed till then). This wasn't a problem at all as I knew about it before I arrived. I arrived at about 1255 and had to wait behind 3 other units. Once you are booked in the warden shows you the available pitches on the map and advises you to have a walk around to chose which one you want, brilliant idea as the site isn't a circular site that you can drive around. It is a very popular site and for the whole time I was there it was full. Although it was full it was still very quiet and you never had to queue to use any of the service points or facilities. All facilities were immaculately clean as was the whole site. The wardens were lovely, very friendly and welcoming. There is a short dog walk although there are paths running behind the site, they are clearly marked as not Caravan Club site maintained, but still easy to walk. Across the road from the site are a disused quarry and a wildlife trail which are handy for dog walking. Just down the road (towards Cambridge city centre) is Cherry Hinton park, this is a lovely park and great for the dog to play ball. There is a bus stop near the site somewhere but I didn't use it. I can't really comment on the suitability for families, there isn't anything for the kids to do on site but then again its not the kind of place you would take kids to spend time on site. Overall I had a great stay and will be back next year.
