We live 45 minutes away but wanted to spend a bit more time in the area. Stayed for 5 nights. The site is easy to get to and is tucked away in the quarry. We managed to get a pitch away from the stone face so did not feel closed in at all. The new facilities were nice although I would like to see a magnification mirror in the gents washing rooms. We walked through the woods to Buxton which was very pleasant, the site has excellent maps to give directions on the route. Overall very pleased with the site and will definitely return.
Fantastic Club Site
Stayed here for the weekend with our two children/dog and our friends with their 3 children. This site has recently re-opened after a refurbishment and it shows everywhere. The pitches, the roads/paths, the facilities are all in pristine condition. The site is ruggedly attractive, set in what I think is an old quarry. There is a sheer cliff face on one side of the site, so mobile reception is poor, however the service bollards all seems to have TV points. Also there is a decent amount of fully serviced pitches available. The shower block look fresh out the wrapper and is probably the best I've ever used. What I absolute love was the space in the shower cubicles and a shower where you're trusted to turn it on & off yourself! These little things make all the difference to me. There isn't a play area, however the children on our trip were very happy to make their own play within the site and also in the adjoining country park. For me, it was great to see them exploring and finding their own things to do.
Immediately next to the entrance is the Grin Low country park. You can walk into the fantastic woods, or up to Solomon's temple to look at the brilliant views over Buxton and the surrounding peaks. The walk into Buxton is mildly challenging and if you don't fancy it, a taxi is £6 each way. Definitely will be going back to this site (after I've tried Castleton)
Fabulous refurbishment
Stayed here again just after reopening following the fabulous refurbishment all round. Lovely smooth tarmac roads. Excellent facilities block. Good upgrade of pitches, most of which are level. Wifi was fine where we pitched. Phone signal, as always pretty non-existing but that's due to the site being in a former quarry and not the fault of the site. Lovely walks straight out of the gate. Will definitely return. I've uploaded a short drive around video & photographic tour of facilities on Youtube.

Stunning!
Our first stay at Buxton and it won't be our last - we really couldn't recommend the staff more highly; very friendly welcome and we were so impressed with the site at first impressions, we booked a second night.
It's clear that the facilities have recently been refurbished and they're of a very high standard. Some other reviews comment about pitches not being level, but I have to say that most we saw would be easy to pitch on and our own was perfectly level.
There are plenty of things to do nearby - this is a very pretty site in a lovely setting and within close walking distance of the town. Be ready for the walk back up the hill though - and for those who don't want to face the climb back, the thoughtful site staff have arranged rates with a local taxi firm. First class!
Pleasant site
Very pleasant campsite set in old quarry in country park. Shower and loo block excellent after its revamp. Friendly, welcoming staff. Good dog walks in area but steep uphill climb from Buxton itself. Would stay here again.

Good but
Having undergone recent refurbishment the site was as expected, spick and span. The site itself is well located especially if like us you have dogs and enjoy walking, we particularly liked the walk down into Buxton and the walks around Tittesworth reservoir and along the Monsal trail, both relatively close by. Whilst the facilities on site are all new we were a little disappointed to find that a number of pitches were quite un-level and required good leveling blocks. I would also note that whilst the new roads are lovely and smooth they are a little narrow in places especially for larger units. That said we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this site to anyone.
Fantastic site in a wonderful location
Spent 3 nights here 2nd week of Sept in our motorhome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are fantastic walks right from the site and we especially enjoyed the walk through the woods to Buxton. Didn't visit Pooles cavern as we have a dog but the walk up to and around Solomon's Temple gave some beautiful views.
Had to use our levellers on the fully serviced pitch but this is only a minor point.
Showers and loos spotless.
All in all one of the nicest club sites we have been to.

Very Good but could be even better
Buxton was our weekend bolthole back in the good old working days. As far as we were concerned we weren't that bothered about how wonderful the facilities were as long as they were clean. We were there for the great outdoors.
Not much has changed in our requirements in the last 28 years. However we now spread our wings far and wide and it's a few years since we last visited Buxton. We didn't even know about the upgrade when booking. This was a last minute job and whilst the website said full, the warden said "Pitch available".
So what of the site in 2018? Mostly hardstanding now with something called "Service Pitches", whatever these new fangled things are. They seem to be popular, that's what they are. One thing they still haven't changed is the uneveness of the pitches. Ooh,most of them are so nearly flat but not quite. However there are a few spots that are perfect (and a few spots which are poor). All new tarmac road, less noise when the 7 o'clock brigade just have to roll their wastemaster to the emptying point. Don't worry though because they'll get you with the Aquaroll!😁
Toilet block? Shower cubicles have been increased in size. Even the corpulently challenged should be happy. The ubiquitous "PITA" chair? Yippee, it's gone to be replaced by a bench. So much better now there's more space. Hooks? 3 plus one for the towel. Super. Showerheads? OK, just. With the water flow still being poor here the showeheads just about project the flow far enough out. Number of showers and private cubicles have been increased and there are now 6 toilet cubicles. Still the same old problem of some members not knowing how to use a loo brush. Unfortunately the push buttons could have been replaced with more hygienic hands free equipment similarly the wash taps. The good old mop from the 1990's has now been replaced by something akin to a Chocolate Fireguard. Ah well, it must be progress.
What else? Ah yes, the doors to the Washroom and Laundry room are soooo heavy you may need an extra Weetabix in the morning. Poor show CMC.
There are 2 Washing Machines and 2 Driers. Untried so no comment possible.
The waste bins do have recycling after a fashion. Mind you some Members are not to be trusted so can't really blame the club for not giving them too much choice.
Nothing much for kiddies to do on site but the great outdoors is literally on your doorstep. If you want your children pampering take them to another site. Dog walkers have no excuse. There's a great big dog walk right outside the entrance. It's called the Peak District.
The wrdens were friendly and very helpful to us.
Beaare though, the wifi reception is at best poor, at worst non existent. Ditto, the phone signal.
All in all? A pleasurable stay that brought back happy memories but the improvemdnts could have been so much better. Still, well tried CMC.
Not really for motorhomes, or dogs, or kids
A return trip to the refreshed Buxton site had been on our wish list all year, and we made it early September. At the gate 'Welcome to the Buxton Caravan Club site' reminded us of times gone by, but when we tried to find a pitch that allowed us to level our motorhome, we agree - this is a caravan site. If only someone had let the builders know how to create level pitches, and if only the caravan club knew that motorhomes don't have 4 corner jacks, or perhaps we're expected to take 7 or 8 inch ramps?
Nice site, though, very nice area, good location, lots of walks and a nice friendly and helpful warden to bump into now and again, unless it's the female one that's made us decide never to come back here again - and even consider joining the camping club.
Showers are very good, apart from the regular bursts of cold water every time we had a shower (men's and women's). Underfloor heating is OK, especially when you find an area that's not freezing cold.
