A Great place for a break

The site has had a full refurbish and is a brand new site. The pitches are all nicely laid out with plenty of space. The site is situated in a quarry with Buxton country park right next door, great for walking especially if you have a dog, you can walk into Buxton, but it is uphill back. There is some great walking in the area and is a good place for relaxing holiday. If you do not use the site WiFi you can really get away from the outside world as there is no mobile signal. TV signal is limited we did get a few channels, but there is the option to connect to the aerial booster system if you want to have TV. We will definately be back again in the future

Get away weekend

Well not often do I review places but this site was worth it. Situated in an old quarry you will never get mobile signal. But that’s the beauty of this place you do get a chance to be away from the dreaded internet and emails Yes there’s the club WiFi and it works......well you all know about that lol New site gone through refurb so its bound to be good. exceptional in its location bunkered well down from the prevailing wind in the lower to bottom half of the quarry and great walks from the site Walking into town Well first it’s up the gradient from the local car park to the top and behind the quarry wall, then all downhill to Poole car park. This walk is tough on the knees and unless your a good walker it might be considered a challenge to others. However once your off the hill it’s all pedestrian paths and crossing roads to the bottom which you enter the pavilions park. Wonderful site small lake , children playing coffe shops etc. Through the park takes you into the small town.great little antique shop on the corner which we were told was filimed by tv .......you know the flog it style programmes lol. The walk can take about 20-25 min dependant on your pace but with the better half n two little dogs it went quickly.. The local taxi firm A cabs was worth a shout on the way back only £6 to get back up the hill after a glass of the bubbly So back on site chilling and watching the Sunday gang packing up and moving out ... The site well worth a visit and worth the twisted route over the dales to,get here

Well Run Site

Very welcoming site team. Friendly approachable group. The site is very clean and so are the toilets. Can tell that on this site in particular the site staff are very proud of the site.

Great site, great views

On arriving you get a lovely view over the top of the camp as you drive down the pathway. The reception was easy to locate and the staff very friendly and helpful. My friends had already arrived so I found my pitch easily and got set up. The toilet and shower block is great and kept clean, though I didnt use the showers, they were really busy when I went in to use the other facilities. Its a beautiful location, the site being set in a quarry and the walls lit up at night were amazing. We decided to walk into the town, its a lovely walk but not great for those who struggle with joints or mobility. I had read there is a deal with a local taxi firm to ferry people to town if the walk isnt appealing. It appeared that most people were tucked up inside from 9pm onwards so there was no noise whatsoever after then. Im a huge fan of the little gnome home and insect hotel there! Now a quarry is not known for its great mobile signal, and I found that out very quickly. I noticed that there was a wifi option from the site so decided to use that. I got signed in and for about 20mins it worked ok, not the best signal, but again you are sat in a quarry! After that it stopped working completely but still counted down my time paid for. The staff at reception were amazing at trying to help and we ended up ringing someone about it who promised to phone me back as they also couldnt sort it. I didnt hear anything from them, possibly because I had zero mobile signal there. I got an email after I arrived back home today saying they had tried to phone but couldnt reach me and that I had a free day of wifi use. I have no idea if this rolls over to another site on another visit or just this particular one. Overall had a lovely break at an amazing located site, I would definately visit again.

Nice new site but Shower block not as warm as expected

This was the first time to the Buxton site and we were made very welcome by the site staff who were very friendly and helpful. The site was clean and well laid out except for one thing. Opposite the toilet block is a 'short cut' path and at the bottom end, away from the block are two very low (knee height) grey steel fences. They are clearly there to slow exit from the path onto the road. These are totally invisible at night as the illumination is on the other side of the fence lining the path. How do I know? remember I said they were at Knee height! The only other thing was that the shower block was cooler than we had come to expect from the CMHC sites. It may be that this was because the site had just opened but it made showering a less pleasant experience although it did encourage you to speed up, get dry and get out! The showers themselves were great. Overall, the site was perfect for our weekend away. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the wind, rain and snow. We will be back soon.

Beautiful Autumn

What an amazing location. This was our first visit to this site. It was very clean and tidy. Love the insect house! The site is set in an old quarry and therefore makes a dramatic backdrop. It is next to the country park and Solomon’s Temple. A visit to Pooles caverns is worth it. The staff are knowledgable and have time to answer all questions. A trip to Derwent water is essential if you are interested in the history of the 617 squadron. This time of year the trees colour is amazing too. Also nearby is Castletown and the Blue John mines. Would we visit again? Too right we would. So much to see even for us who are less agile.

Fantastic site in lovely area

Just had a weekend here with friends. chose to go to bottom of the site which is a bit of a walk to the toilet block but ok for us. Site is clean and tidy, refurbished toilet block as well which is lovely enough room to shower and plenty of them. Nice walk to Solomon's Temple then into Buxton. Could be difficult if you not a good walker. Taxis used by site are brilliant. do a fixed price and very friendly drivers. went to the Brasserie for meal excellent. Definately visit again as so much to do around. Excellent for dogs as well although we didnt have ours this time.

Unusual but wonderful setting

This is a site unlike any other we have used. The setting is a little remote, very peaceful, but the walks, and views are literally breathtaking. The walk to Buxton through the woods are superb, but beware they are steep, especially on the way back. That said if you are not a walker, the site has negotiated a favourable rate with a local taxi firm. As usual the wardens were great, and the newly refurbished site is a gem.

The Buxton Trails

Chose Buxton for its proximity to a number of Cycle Trails. All of them reachable directly from the site if you're an able 50miler rider. If not, all trails have parking at each end. They are the High Peak, Tissington, Monsal and Manifold. Plus more off road routes for more extreme rides. Anyway, back to the site! I'm in my fourth season caravaning at this upgrade to the site is amazing, best I've seen!... I think I counted 9 shower cubicles. The shower block is extremely well presented and modern. The site may be fully booked, but no dashing for the shower, always one available. I did notice that being higher, the weather seemed dull and drizzly, but when I ventured out and lower, I got glorious sunshine. TV reception is limited, but mainly non existent. Same with mobile signal, but buying into the WiFi, I got very good internet and messenger ( call and video) communication, it worked very well. Will most definitely pay a revisit!!!

Super Buxton

Decided to go to Buxton again as we had been here in the summer, the site is great for the walks into Buxton and beyond plenty of bus’s from Buxton. Staff are wonderful very accommodating and friendly, we had visitors on the Saturday I let the staff know, not a problem. If you want to eat out we tried The Railway at the far end of the high street great menu, service and cheap, if coffee and chocolate are your thing the old spa baths, check it out. We will book for next year for more than one visit, it’s just a pity it isn’t open all year.
