A beautifully situated gem.

The quarry provides a lovely setting, and the general location is excellent for accessing Buxton (by foot) and many great walks in the surrounding moorland. Newly refurbished, the facilities are excellent. As ever, site staff are great. Covid restrictions were in place but worked well so long as visits to the shower block were made outside of peak times. Definitely one of C&MCs all round best sites. 4 nights October 2020.

Warm welcome and great site

This was our very first 3 night trip in a hired motorhome, so we had nothing to compare it with. The welcome from the owners was very warm and informative. No question was a silly question and it did give me confidence that we would be able to pitch up and then find everything we needed, which we did. I thought we would only use the facilities in our motorhome but the toilet and shower block were spacious and spotless so we did use them during our stay. The site is very well maintained in all areas and the pitches are well set out in my opinion. We had a few different walks in and out of Buxton which was just under 2 miles away. The scenery was really beautiful.

Beautiful setting

Saw this site during a walk many moons ago and always wanted to stay here and it didn't disappoint. Really helpful and friendly wardens as per usual, clean and some lovely quirky ideas including bug houses, all 5*, an 007 caravan and flowerpot men. Gave me some ideas for my garden! Easy dog walking for both short wee walks and longer marathons, and of course easy access to the lovely Peak District. Went to the Cheese Shop at Hartington as usual - fabulous produce there - and walked through Wolfcote and Beresford Dales. Despite some not so good weather we had a great time. Just wish you could have 2 rows of bands - one for the toilets and one for the showers as we have seen on other sites. Do use on board facilities now but just occasionally handy to get across to the loo! Thoroughly recommend it - though not much here for children which is really good for us, unless they like walking and visiting.

COVID arm bands for facilities

Recently visited Buxton site and on the whole we loved it , but was so frustrated and annoyed with people not taking the right armbands off the pegs , went to get mine twice and it had gone and my husband had his taken twice . They have your pitch number on them so I don’t know why it’s not working . Also people just leaving them on the hooks when only four allowed in so you can be waiting outside for ages when only one or two people in .I don’t think it’s very good infection control , sorry .

Relaxing quiet site

Stayed for 3 nights in September. Site’s well maintained. Staff friendly. Would stay again. It was very, very busy on the day we arrived and we had a queue of 5 outfits in front of us even though it was only 13.05. The staff worked very hard to get the outfits through as quickly as possible but without omitting any important information for us. The band system for the loo block is only as good as the visitors that use it correctly. Unfortunately members “forgot” their bands and on entering the facilities I discovered there was no one inside but 3 bands were on the pegs indicating 3 people were using the facilities. When we left there was already 2 outfits waiting but the book is wrong as it says arrivals from 12! Also the information the site provides for shopping does not given information about height restrictions. Buxton Waitrose has a height barrier that means motorhomes cannot enter its car park. The car park suitable for motorhomes in Buxton is actually the coach park and has a different entrance to the car park (which also has a height barrier) but has the same post code. £5.40 to park - cash only machine.

Rainy weekend away :)

We booked this local site as a quiet weekend away to escape whats going on in the world and to find some peace and quiet. This is a wonderful site set in the grounds of Grin low and Buxton country park. It is quite a trek into Buxton in the driving rain but all good fun. Buxton is a wonderful place to explore with lots of quirky shops and wonderful buildings and gardens. We got a bit lost in the woods coming back to the site and we could not have been any wetter but this is where the excellent facilities came into there own. The showers were immaculately kept with piping hot showers ( that you didn't have to keep pressing every ten seconds or so!) that were so clean I didn't want to get out. There is a fish and chip van on a Saturday evening too so dinner was taken care of. Wardens were lovely and pleasant and were constantly out and about checking all was clean and sanitised. All in all a wonderful site in a spectacular old quarry. We will definitely come back here again.

Second but not last visit....

We were originally booked to visit this site on 22 March but, for obvious reasons, couldn’t go! Once we were able to travel we booked for 26 July for 7 nights. At the time, toilets were restricted to 3 at a time (although we tend to use onboard mostly) but it worked well. Loads of places for walks and days out locally, or within a short drive. We are fairly new to Caravanning and still learning and asking questions of others. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Hi to Lynn & Neil who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary while we were there.... 💓 Good size pitches and we even managed to put up our awning for the first time! The only downside was us following SAT Nav and ending up on a mountain outside Holmfirth on our way there. Thanks to everyone who gave us directions to go home!! We loved this site so much, we have just returned (on Sunday), following another 7 nights. Again, a great pitch..numbers up to 4 in showers/toilet block. Highly recommend Lyme Park National Trust and Heights of Abraham (can’t say the same about Matlock Bath...unless you like fish and chips and amusements!!). We got the route right this time...and although we live in Durham we will definitely be back again. Highly recommend the pizza oven which came to site on the Sunday and Thursday on our second visit.....fantastic! Also Great Panda Chinese in Buxton delivers to site.....HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Wardens are doing a great job....only criticism are those that cut through pitches and the ones who think they do not need to take a band to facilities and just swan in and out...maybe they are immune to this dreadful disease. On a lighter note...keep this little gem to yourselves so it doesn’t become too difficult to book into!! Thanks to all....keep on Caravanning.....Helen & Mark x

One Night Stay

We stayed here for 1 night on route further south. Very peaceful, quiet and well kept. Close to various paths leading to Buxton. Would stay here again for longer.

Break at Buxton

Good clean and well organised site good walk into Buxton. Plenty to do in the area including the Tissington, High Peak and Monsal trails. All villages seemed to be well kept and welcoming but some of the more popular ones get very busy. We were cycling and some good routes but careful it is hilly - see Peak District website for routes.
