Stayed at this site for the first time during September 2021. The site is in a fantastic location for walking and cycling, including walking to Buxton. The town is nice and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. The site facilities are new, clean and there are ample toilets and showers. The wardens were friendly and efficient. The facilities are at the top of the site and therefore quite a way from the pitches at the bottom. There is also patchy phone signal, 4G and WiFi. You will need a tv lead to connect to the port on the back of the electric boxes for any tv signal. The site shop sells tv leads and has a great selection of goods from a local bakery.
Beautiful Site
Lovely picturesque site in an old quarry above Buxton. Pitches are quite big, we had a serviced pitch, number 19 with beautiful views from our awning.
Wardens are friendly and helpful, facillities are clean and well looked after.
Nice walks around the site, including walks into Buxton and also further a field.
Also not to far away from Bakewell, Matlock, Castleton, Chatsworth and other tourist attractions.
I have had to rate this for families as there does not seem to be a pass option, but there is no pkay park here if you do have children.
Thoroughly recommend this site.
What a lovely quarry!
Spent only five nights here, but loved the location. Close to plenty of things to do, peaceful and very sheltered.
Not sure if two sections of the original quarry face were illuminated at night, or whether it was the setting sun, but it looked really dramatic!
Buxton is a gem and the Opera House and adjacent gardens are not to be overlooked. Delightful villages abound and the pub at Monyash offers great food at great prices.
The whole of the Peak District National Park is just wonderful. A walkers paradise. We live in rural Oxfordshire, which is great, but The High Peaks are on a different level! Already planning a return.
Don’t hesitate…..
Perfect Site!
Just returned from a short stay at Buxton Site; this was our first time here and is by far our most favourite Site. The location is beautiful and within walking distance to Buxton through an easy to follow woodland walk. Buxton is stunning and well worth a visit. There are many beautiful walks from the site and in particular if you are lucky to have nice weather, a walk to "Solomon's Temple" (close to the Site) to watch the sunset is well worth it. Just stunning!! The Site is so peaceful and spotless with excellent shower/toilet block and the Wardens are so friendly. We shall definitely return.
Fab Site
Had a few days here over the bank holiday week end, Great well planed site with excellent facilities. Showers and toilet block have been re-furbished to a high standard. site staff very friendly and informative, most pitch's have TV points as reception been in a quarry is limited reception, same for Mobiles( Vodafone network) , but great if you wan to just chill and get a away from busy everyday life. Had one of the serviced pitch's every thing as it should be will defo use again.
Very disappointing
Some pitches difficult to get into.
Some pitches are not in the sunshine.
Loads of NOT well behaved dogs.
Air conditioning running on several caravans around us for hours on end and with their windows open
Children on scooters riding unsupervised around the site not observing the one way system - dangerous .
Only saw the wardens once on arriving!
Beautiful. well laid out site but quite a hike into Buxton
As described, the site is set in an old quarry which provides small areas for pitches with lots of vegetation hiding many of the units and giving it all a very attractive appearance. The section we were in had hedges separating pitches giving even more privacy. The site is described as being within walking distance of "the pretty town of Buxton" and whilst true that fails to mention that it is a physically challenging walk through steep, rough woodland paths and not suitable for people with limited mobility. After a steep climb out of the quarry the remainder of the walk is downhill and includes stiles and steps. There is no lighting so this would be an unwise walk in the dark and as it is mainly earth and rock underfoot would be very slippery in the wet.
Whichever way you travel into Buxton it is well worth checking through the tourist information as there is lots to see there, including the refurbished 'Crescent' opposite the TI Pump House. If you are planning a BBQ whilst at the site then I recommend a visit to Geoff Mycock butchers opposite the market. Don't take my word for it - they come highly recommended on the internet as well. Tell them you want the meat for a BBQ (for 2 in out case) and they will select and cut exactly what you want.
This was our first visit to the Buxton site and we will certainly be returning.
A pleasant break at an interesting, well designed and maintained caravan site
This is a very nice site. and the location alone makes it worth a stay. Historically it was a limestone quarry, and nearby in the Country Park are remains of lime kilns that turned limestone into lime mortar. The site was developed into a campsite, by the size of the trees, I would guess no more than 30 years ago. A lot of wildlife has come back and made homes within spaces in the rock faces, so bring binoculars. So, a campsite set within a nature recovery project, set within a country park, near Buxton (half hour walk through the country park) very central to the spectacular Peak District. The facilities are excellent, the wifi not bad. Staff at all times polite and helpful. What's not to like?

Great peaceful retreat with fabulous woodland walks for dogs
Just spent four nights on this site and can’t recommend the wardens enough. From our first arrival we were greeted with smiles, patience and useful information that really helped us make the most of our stay. Whilst we were there 50 vans turned up one Friday and the wardens were still smiling at the end of it - well done.
The facilities were very modern and immaculately clean. The site is well laid out and despite rain there was no puddles or flooding.
There was only 2 adults and a dog in our party, so I’m not sure about facilities for children, but I didn’t see any (hence my 3 star rating) but the woodlands were full of places to explore and build dens. The other side of the woodlands from the site is also a Go Ape for the adventurous traveller. Buxton itself is worth a visit with lots of great places to eat and shop but it’s a fairly long uphill walk back. The pet shop in the middle of town has great natural treats our pup had never tried before.
Great place, just a shame it’s too far away for us to travel except for big holidays.
One night stay.
Stayed at the site for one night recently. Guy who booked us in wasn't very pleasant, didn't point out the electric points etc. Lots of tent's on the site.
Lovely walk in to Buxton and really good taxi service agreement the site have with the local taxi firm. Wifi isn't brilliant due to the location. Clean facilities, did notice a lot of notices up stating "staff only" "try and use your own facilities if possible"
