This is a great site in a most unusual location, at the base of a former quarry. Everything on the site is well maintained and the whole place is very welcoming. We were very pleased that it was so quiet and peaceful, which was just what we needed that weekend. Thank you Buxton staff.
Perfect for what we wanted
Having now visited this site for many years it is exactly what we wanted as we needed to get away. This site was conveniently located and if you're prepared to do a little walking there is plenty to see and do. The woodland walk into town is around 25-35 minutes down hill (slightly longer back) with a refreshing stop at the Pooles Cavern coffee shop. If you're into cycling, you need to be fit, but the site offers many access points for road and mountain bike routes. Whilst phone signal is poor (that's a good thing) the TV from within the van worked fine without the need to connect to the pillar (just need to point the aerial in the right direction) The site was extremely well maintained and the facilities were second to none. On the upside (depending on your point of view) there are no children play areas. That said if your into kite flying the walk up to Solomon's Temple would provide some excellent opportunities. We were there during lambing so dogs need to be well controlled up the hills but can run amok in the woods. The evening and dawn chorus of jackdaws nesting in the quarry make a pleasant change to the hustle and bustle of daily life. The quarry wall is illuminated and well worth just siting out and chilling in the evening.
Having read one of the less positive reviews, you need to do your homework when visiting any site, if you do then you will not be disappointed when visiting this site as it is well worth it.

Superb Stay here!
Quality, cleanliness, pitch size, amenities all absolutely top class! We have just arrived home from a fabulous week at this site and cannot fault it in any way. We loved the staff (Kristian etc.) who were all so cheerful and friendly, showing that they love their work. The most recent project is to be a 'Fairy garden' we were informed, can't wait to see it next time! The shop, though tiny, is very well stocked and sells Bakewell Bakery scones and flat bread to die for!!!! The Fish & Chip van calls ( and they are yummy!) and it does currys on a separate night. The area has beautiful walks and breath-taking views. The walk into Buxton itself is lovely and the town beautiful, especially the park area. We are so glad to have found this site and will be back again just as soon as we are able. Well done guys...10 stars at least.
Great location
This a really lovely site in a great location for Buxton and lots of great walking in the area.
Spotlessly clean shower block with very friendly wardens who work really hard.
Dog walking straight from the site into the Buxton Country park.
A fantastic selection of baked goods in the shop too!
We will be back
Beautiful site
Stayed at the site for two nights, mid week. Staff were helpful, polite and obviously cared about the site. The facilities were spotless and everything was open. The shop stocked a good range of fresh food and there was a curry van that night (Thursday).
We cycled from the site and enjoyed two days of wonderful routes. It was quite difficult to get to the quieter areas as there are no ‘cycle friendly’ lanes on the main road from the site, which was very busy with large lorries. However this did not detract from the excellent cycling we found.
Our only disappointment, again, was the club WiFi - poor speed, difficult to get on to and generally very poor! As this site has limited phone coverage on some networks a good WiFi connection is important!
To finish, the quarry that the site is nestled in is lit up at night and gives a lovely ambiance - sitting out in warmer weather would be a joy!
The site is well worth a visit!
Easter break away
We booked the Easter weekend last year not realising it would be Easter, but we decided to keep the booking. This is our 3rd visit to Buxton and it doesn’t fail to deliver. The site was immaculate and the showers, toilets were very clean. We do not have children, but being here over the holiday period showed us how well the Wardens had prepared for families with an Easter Raffle and an Egg Hunt.
We have a Motorhome which we leave on site and walk, cycle or public transport to get about.
We found a lovely 6 mile walk going down the road and out of the site and straight across, you come to the HSE / University area which has plenty of signposted paths. We took the most direct path and went onto Harper Hill which took us back onto Grin Low Road further down. We took the road into Buxton Centre - but you can follow the river.
It won’t be our last visit I’m sure as there is still plenty to explore.
Great site in a lovely location.
First time visit to this site for us, and we loved it. (2 adults and 1 pooch)
We stayed for 9 nights and I can honestly say that I would have like to have stayed a few more.
All of the wardens were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Special shout out for Alan, such a lovely bloke.
As you probably already know, the site is set in an old quarry, this makes phone signals poor, we were still able to connect to wifi but it wasn't strong enough to watch Now, Netflix etc through it on the TV. Not an issue for us as the TV signal was okay. Some pitches will need a lead but our aerial was fine. The site shop sells the leads if you don't have one. Can't comment on the club wifi as we stopped using that last year.
Great location for walking the Peak District and visiting local places of interest. Its a nice walk into Buxton (about 30 minutes). If you look you can find a few different routes in and out. We walked down for market day (Tuesday) really wasn't worth it as there were about 8 stalls.
Facilities were very clean and regularly cleaned and maintained. We had a serviced pitch which was brilliant.
Can't comment on if its good for families as it all depends on the family's expectations. There isn't a playground on site.
All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be going back.
Bank holiday Inn Buxton
We stayed May bank holiday with campervan as 2 adults and a child.
The facilities were excellent and the showers super hot and a good power.
The site staff were really friendly and helpful each time we talked to them. The site ship is good with lovely things from a local bakery. There was a fish and chip van on Saturday night and I believe there is a curry can on Thursdays.
We walked to Solomon's tower from the site and down into Buxton through the woods. A lovely walk down and the park and gardens in town were enjoyable.
The walk uphill is harder but you can select the shortest route through the woods - yellow route.
There isn't a playground on site but my boy made friends to cycle with and enjoyed the woods and climbing on the rocks that were in the fields nearby. We visited Poole's caverns which was a nice trip out, there is go ape next door to the caverns but you need to be age ten to take part.
The pitches are all spacious and due to the layout you don't feel like you are on a big site.
Immaculate facilities but
It’s our first time on this site and we were pleasantly surprised! The facilities are new and are immaculate, very spacious and the best we have seen in our many stays on CMC sites.
Lots of excellent walks in the locality, Brixton is a 30 minute walk away, May take you longer coming back!
The only downside of this site is the very poor wifi coverage, also poor mobile phone signal. If you contact the warden understandably you are simply told to contact Air Angel. Which is a waste of time! If the club is to attract new, younger members then a good wifi signal is essential! Surely the CMC can address this?
