Great site in a lovely location.

First time visit to this site for us, and we loved it. (2 adults and 1 pooch) We stayed for 9 nights and I can honestly say that I would have like to have stayed a few more. All of the wardens were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Special shout out for Alan, such a lovely bloke. As you probably already know, the site is set in an old quarry, this makes phone signals poor, we were still able to connect to wifi but it wasn't strong enough to watch Now, Netflix etc through it on the TV. Not an issue for us as the TV signal was okay. Some pitches will need a lead but our aerial was fine. The site shop sells the leads if you don't have one. Can't comment on the club wifi as we stopped using that last year. Great location for walking the Peak District and visiting local places of interest. Its a nice walk into Buxton (about 30 minutes). If you look you can find a few different routes in and out. We walked down for market day (Tuesday) really wasn't worth it as there were about 8 stalls. Facilities were very clean and regularly cleaned and maintained. We had a serviced pitch which was brilliant. Can't comment on if its good for families as it all depends on the family's expectations. There isn't a playground on site. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be going back.

Bank holiday Inn Buxton

We stayed May bank holiday with campervan as 2 adults and a child. The facilities were excellent and the showers super hot and a good power. The site staff were really friendly and helpful each time we talked to them. The site ship is good with lovely things from a local bakery. There was a fish and chip van on Saturday night and I believe there is a curry can on Thursdays. We walked to Solomon's tower from the site and down into Buxton through the woods. A lovely walk down and the park and gardens in town were enjoyable. The walk uphill is harder but you can select the shortest route through the woods - yellow route. There isn't a playground on site but my boy made friends to cycle with and enjoyed the woods and climbing on the rocks that were in the fields nearby. We visited Poole's caverns which was a nice trip out, there is go ape next door to the caverns but you need to be age ten to take part. The pitches are all spacious and due to the layout you don't feel like you are on a big site.

Immaculate facilities but

It’s our first time on this site and we were pleasantly surprised! The facilities are new and are immaculate, very spacious and the best we have seen in our many stays on CMC sites. Lots of excellent walks in the locality, Brixton is a 30 minute walk away, May take you longer coming back! The only downside of this site is the very poor wifi coverage, also poor mobile phone signal. If you contact the warden understandably you are simply told to contact Air Angel. Which is a waste of time! If the club is to attract new, younger members then a good wifi signal is essential! Surely the CMC can address this?

Third visit

Good to be back - staff friendly and helpful, facilities clean and tidy, good location for walking into Buxton (30-40 minutes) although be warned it is uphill coming back, can't comment on suitability for families, only issue is the Wi-Fi - classified as Bronze which unfortunately overstates its capabilities i.e. very reluctant to connect/very slow when connected/then disconnects randomly during use. Reference recent 'motor homers' review, approximately half the occupants during our stay were motorhomes do they all consider the site unsuitable? Maybe a little more research was required before visit or maybe the CAMC site at Leek would have been more suitable.

Misleading .... Very poor

I suppose this site is ok if you have a car to escape the place. NOT SUITABLE FOR MOTORHOMERS!! We booked this site to go on the cycle routes as described on the club website. The trails were 6 miles away, no good in a motorhome! Buses and trains are in Buxton town centre, but no buses from the site to the town, had to walk 45 min down through boggy, muddy forest, awful if it rained! If you have health problems don't think of going to the town!! No way you can walk it, you would have to call a taxi every day @ £6 one way is expensive. If you wanted to walk by the main road, you have to walk about 25 minutes up hill to get to the road. Mobile phone coverage was non existent, had to walk around to get a rubbish signal! If you want to watch TV take a aerial cable, about 15mtrs will be enough. Tv signal again is rubbish. All in all not a great site if you haven't got a car, and you would like to use your phone or TV. This was a holiday from hell to be honest for us. Would never go back and never recommend it to anyone. Don't waste £36 a night!!

Fabulous site

We loved our evening at the Buxton site and will definitely return for longer in the future. The welcome from the wardens was warm and genuine. They really understand that they are so important in "setting the tone" and culture of the site which we have not experienced at all sites. The site itself is pretty and well laid out. Lovely walk into Buxton over the hill and through the gardens, ending at the Buxton Brewery Tap. Loved it.

Wonderful Welcome

We recently stayed at the Buxton site and I can safely say that I don't think I have ever received such a warm welcome at any other CAMC site. Kristian and Alan were superb, providing a lovely welcome along with lots of relevant and useful information regarding the site and surrounding area. The site was well maintained and extremely tidy, and are using the two peg system, which found made pitching very straightforward. The onsite shop was well stocked with wonderful local produce and the standard and cleanliness of all the facilities was first class. The walk to Buxton was lovely if not a bit steep on the way back, and despite having every type of weather known to man during our stay, we really enjoyed our time here and will definately be back.

Connecting with nature

After a shaky start the wardens were amazing sorting us out and moved pitches. Lots of walking and biking although on road bikes you need to plan your routes if you don’t want to be on main roads. Lots of hills. The Monsal trail was great it’s about 5 miles to the start not great if you are on other than electric bikes but once on the route you can get to bakewell. Lots of cafes on the route. Buxton was a good walk although steep lovely walk through the woods. Great independent restaurants Italian and French. The birds nesting in the rock were a source of much entertainment not too noisy but if you are not used to birds you may think differently. Facilities were well maintained and lots of hot water for end of day shower without having to keep pressing the button. Great bakery selection on site especially Bakewell puds and cream to go with it.

Wonderfully presented and prepared site

We recently went to the Club site at Buxton for the first time, having been to all of the others around the peak district. We didnt know what to expect but were delighted upon arrival. The wardens were very friendly and helpful and the site had been prepared for the new season in an immaculate way, must have taken ages!! All information we needed was on hand and the wardens, particularly Christian and Alan, were also very helpful with further queries we had during our stay. Very peaceful site, with few families as were were during term time. Wildlife was fabulous especially the birds and the walk down to Buxton through the woods very pleasant although far tougher that I had anticipated due to distance and incline. Our one key issue was lack of Wi Fi. We have paid for WiFI with the club and quite simply it did not work. We complained to the wardens and they advised us to speak with AirAngel. We did but it got us nowhere. Unfortuneately a second rate element spoiling a first class site
