The site itself is nice and the staff very helpful, however, our first night was very disturbed by a helicopter going round and round overhead for over an hour from 11.30. Next night there were long protracted fireworks, again for an hour between 11 and midnight. I think we were possibly unlucky, but on our final morning I walked into the shower block to be met by a woman and an Alsatian type dog, couldn't quite believe it- what she do with it when she was using the facilities? I know dogs are welcome, but this seemed one step too far.
We stayed at Burrs Country Park for 1 night, mainly to visit our son who lives in Manchester. Access to the site was easy, apart from the cobbled area. We had booked a serviced pitch and were told which were available, which was very useful. We chose a corner pitch, 76, with a good view of the steam trains. The pitches and facilities were as good as always and the site felt very open We had a lovely walk around the country park. 2 pubs are very close but we never got the chance to try them. The next morning we met our son in Manchester for breakfast. We had planned to walk into Bury and take the tram in but we didn’t have time so we drove in. This isn’t somewhere we would choose to holiday but would certainly stop over again and there were more things we would want to do next time.
Stayed on a serviced pitch with a 2nd row view of the ELR railway, site is well laid out and feels spacious and open. Do not set up camp on pitches the other side of the hedge from the pub beer garden if you want a less raucous evening at weekends.
I could not fault the facilities block and service from the staff.
As this site is accessed through Bury town and onto Burrs Country Park you need your wits about you to navigate the junctions but the club directions work well and inform you the best way in, the cobbled access road through the country park ensures that all items not bolted down in your van get a good shuffle!
Burrs Country Park itself is a bit of an enigma being good for walking / cycling etc but let down by the state of what could be an excellent Industrial Heritage location, poorly maintained waterways and overgrown structures give it a very neglected feel, no doubt the money ran out but not after some really random structures, sorry, works of art were installed.
The sites platform to the steam railway is a great addition (although the access is via a path outside the site) and worth a nostalgic trip up and down the line with the Club discount when booking tickets.
Booked this site as it was near to where our daughter lived & enabled us to help with 'childcare' during the Easter holidays....
It is a very spacious site with plenty of grass areas around the hardstanding pitches.....
The facilities are kept spotless by the hard working, friendly & accommodating wardens.
Service with a smile.
A special thank you to Sally & Peter.
I'm sure they had plenty of complaints to deal with (& I'm sure the club will also hear about this to....) due to the loud, live event at the adjacent pub on Easter Sunday, which would have been a little more bearable if the 'artists' could actually sing!!!!
The 'cobbles' on approach are an experience but is is an ideal location for a family stay but couldn't really recommend a stay of longer than 5 days.....
For me, the East Lancs Railway was a bit of 'nostalgia' with the steam trains running although I can't be as enthusiastic about the views from the train as everywhere looked very tired & run down.
The 2 for 1 offer for CAMC members reduced the overall cost & was happy to support this heritage railway.
Would definitely stay again but not for so long.
We have stayed here on a number of occasions and it never disappoints. The facilities are excellent, clean and well kept. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Nothing is too much bother. This site is our go to place while visiting the area.
A bit of unseasonal nice weather and this was about our fifth choice as others were fully booked. Half empty the night we were there. Some noise from the back of the pub and you probably have to like dogs if you stay here, the surrounding park seemed to have an endless supply of yapping dogs regardless of how many (including our own) were on site. Otherwise a very spacious and tidy site and it was quiet at night. The steam railway runs behind it and there are the pub and a nice cafe ( only open Wednesday to Sunday I think) a few minutes walk away. Lots of little trails for ambling/ dog walking or cycling.
I’m not sure what I’d do all day if I stayed more than a couple of nights but pleasant for a short stop ( especially if you have a sociable dog!).
Stayed here quite a few times as it is just down the road and perfect for a quick getaway. We have not managed to get a spot for the last couple of years but were pleasantly surprised to see everything in order and no great changes since our last visit. New Wardens had everything under control and as usual the site was spotless.
One noticeable difference was the fact that boards had been erected asking people not to walk through others pitches that were totally ignored. I feel the the "Pitch Etiquette" of old has, unfortunately, become a thing of the past along with the demise of the caravan. I believe Motorhome and Caravan Club would better describe the club today!
Anyway. Site superb, Wardens excellent and there are Steam trains.
Highly recommended along with the Beef and Onion Baguette from the Brown Cow just off site :-)
Stayed 04/03/22 weekend just gone - what a lovely site - only an hour away from us! Stayed on a service pitch with the steam trains passing back of Motorhome- what a treat! Unfortunately our heating didn’t work (on our brand new van) and despite best attempts we couldn’t get it working - however I called into reception to ask for quickest walking route to town to buy a heater and the lovely female warden offered us her own oil filled radiator- Couldn’t be more helpful! Site facilities spotless and usual caravan club standard. Burrs Country park is lovely to walk round - pub next door and cafe opposite- and of course the East Lancashire Railway next door with 2 for 1 tickets - Didn’t try this time but already booked to go back at Easter will definitely try then!
Couldn’t recommend highly enough!!
28th January 2022 to 31st January 2022. Booked a serviced pitch for three nights, arriving on the Friday afternoon and leaving on Monday morning. Several previous reviews have mentioned the cobbled approach road, and that is definitely an experience!!! It does get very busy with parked cars and pedestrians so you do need your wits about you with plenty of dogs, excited kids and distracted adults bimbling about.
I managed to get a pitch next to the East Lancs Railway Line and it was fantastic being so close to the stunning locomotives as they passed the site. Water pressure was low, so it took quite a while to fill the tank with water.
Facilities and staff were first class. Only minor irritation came when I went to use the motorhome service point and discovered the waste disposal grate didn't match with my outlet pipe without leaving the motorhome overhanging the service road.
We'll definitely be staying again.
