As always staff very friendly and helpful, wonderful place for a walk, excellent facilities and steam trains to boot !!! We parked our motor-home on one of the brand new section, totally flat and large enough for all your needs... we sat and relaxed totally !!
Burrs Country Park
We stayed for 6 nights in April 2016 and found that this site is 5 star. Hard standing with or without servicing points and stacks of room to put up an awning or park your car and trailer. For steam enthusiasts the East Lancs Railway runs alongside the camp site and through the summer you can watch all sorts of engines and diesels passing by.
In the local vicinity, there are plenty of good walks either by the river or local tracks and trails. Plenty of dog walking areas and plenty of bins provided. Local transport will take you to Bury to the market or trams into Manchester. There is plenty of parking around town to enjoy the local shopping and the market.
The site itself is super and the facilities are immaculate. The local pub is The Brown Cow which tends to get busy at weekends and school hols, so, if you want to enjoy their food menu, you might like to book. There is another pub a short distance away which may be more amenable to the younger generation but both are equally good with beer, wines and spirits.
Be aware that the road leading to the Club site is cobblestone for about 400 yards and is not in spectacular state of repair. It will loosen the fillings in your teeth and loose stones and potholes may cause damage for the unwary.
All in all, well worth the visit and the site fees. We're back again in June for 10 days so that should tell you how good it is. Recommended for everything including a warm reception from friendly and helpful staff.
Just recently had a two night stay on Burrs which was our first visit to this site. This is an excellent site which is deceiving as you approach it (its only 5mins from the centre of Bury!)
As usual for the CC, the facilities were up to their usual high standard and the wardens were excellent and very friendly (think the lovely lady said they've only been there about 5 weeks)
Got a great pitch facing the East Lancs railway line so spent lots of time doing the 'meerkat' piece and sticking my head up the awning when a steam trains went past.
The Country Park is lovely for a walk or cycle, we completed 7 1/2 miles on our bikes although it was still muddy in places due to the time of year.
The Activity Centre next door does canoeing if your more adventurous.
The Brown Cow Pub which is next to the site is also very friendly and the food is excellent.
There's no play area or much to do for kids if you have them so they'll need to entertain themselves when on site.
As previous posts have stated, the entrance road into this site is a bit 'nerving' and you definitely need to have your fine china securely fastened as the cobbled section is a definite bone shaker!!
As we left at around 2pm on Sunday, the activity centre was extremely busy due to the good weather and there was cars and vans parked everywhere which made it very tight to get out, especially when the owners of the vehicle just stand and stare as you squeeze past. This was not helped by meeting another member coming in as this entire section is single track and they hadn't looked ahead to see me coming out)......he had to test his reversing skills as there was nowhere for me to go!!
All in all an excellent site and will not put us off returning, in fact, the wife has booked again for September!
We spent 3 nights at the site and found it spotless and the wardens really pleasant and helpful. Site near enough to bus stop into Bury centre and the pub on site provides a good service. Would recommend site to anyone, pitches spacious and all hard-standing which with our weather is a bonus.
We recently had two nights at Burrs Country Park enroute to Southport and were certainly pleasantly surprised. So close to major cities but very rural. The site was very spacious, the wardens great with high quality facilities. Having a good pub on the doorstep and the East Lancs steam railway on the site perimeter was a bonus. Maybe one day there could be a small station in country park? The country park although not as big as expected is good for walking with lots to look at. Not so good for cycling however although there are routes further afield. Recommended!
We had 6 nights in early April. Very pleasant and helpful Wardens. Spacious Site which has matured since the Caravan Club video was made making a very pleasant environment. There are ducks wandering around and rabbits could been seen playing during the day.
From the bus stop, which is about a 10 minute walk, you can catch the bus into town or for £3 per person or for £6.30 buy a 'Day Rider' ticket which covers the bus and trams to get into Manchester. The trams run until past midnight so it's no problem to see a show in Manchester, you won't find a bus that late but a taxi back from the station was around £6, all very easy.
We will be back again in June to see another show.
Don't forget if you want to ride on the steam train you can get a voucher from the Warden for 2 for 1, we walked to the station from the site, about 40 mins.
We booked this site blind and were a bit concerned about its location, but what a surprise when we arrived! Beautifully laid out site, perfect pitches and extremely friendly staff. The facilities were perfect with a perfectly clean and warm shower block. Its close proximity to Bury Town centre meant that we were able to walk there in about 25 mins and spend time (and money!) at the Market and ride the delightful East Lancashire Heritage Railway. We will definitely return later in the year with our bikes as there are plenty of routes to explore. There is also a Bus stop just outside the site offering a convenient service into Town. The Pub adjacent to the Site was also a charming and convenient place to visit. We would thoroughly recommend this Site for a very comfortable and convenient place to stay whilst en-route or just to chill out for a break without having to travel a great distance if you are in the North West area.
Nice site, excellent washroom facilities. It rained a lot when we were there and our pitch flooded but I don't know if there was anything that could have prevented that. Country park next door is nice and a pub with good food a 2 minute walk away. Overall would come back hopefully to a dryer stay!
Found the site under new Wardens who are EXCELLENT, they were so helpful this year, kept the site quiet and under control, which we have not had previously. Still needs more washing machines please, so that one does not have to wait hours while on holiday to wash the family clothes. Also more service pitches please. Any hope of the slope up to the caravan site being improved??? pretty rough on expensive outfits. Thank you.
A very nice site. There are steam trains running along the side of the site, it would be nice if you could get on one of the trains at the site instead of having to go into Bury town Centre, ( about 2-3 miles walking, There was not anywhere to buy a morning paper on site, but we are told that the wardens are going to get a contract set up with a newsagent to bring them to the site. all in all very nice site. Good food in the 2 pubs near buy and nice walks around are interesting as well.
